I don't think the Ravens even offered to keep him on. If I am Caldwell, I have to got to think about finding a superstar defensive coordinator to just run that defense without his involvement; too bad Lovie got the TB job, because he would have been a good fit there. It might not be a flashy name, but he ran the Colts offense for years under Dungy before becoming the HC. He is a no-nonsense guy who, believe it or not, the Colts were excited to replace Dungy. Very different personalty. He is known for working with QBs. I think he'll be a surprisingly good fit for Stafford, and the Lions. It was not a slam dunk that he would not be retained after they had their Manning-less year. It was an Irsay move that went along with the rest of his moves to clean house. Any GM that so much as interviews Jim Caldwell for a HC position (unless it's to satisfy the Rooney rule) should be fired and never able to work in the NFL again. This guy's as bad as it gets. Forget that he coached a team to a 2 win season. This loser gave up on an undefeated season. He may be the greatest guy in the world, I have no idea, but as a competitor and coach I have absolutely no respect whatsoever for Caldwell. He's garbage. It was an Irsay move that went along with the rest of his moves to clean house. the personality certainly seems to be the anti-jim schwartz which probably went a long way for him. still wouldnt like it though - not that i think hes the worst coach ever, id just have a hard time talking myself into thinking hes among the top 5-10 candidates in the world currently not employed as an NFL head coach (and by hard time, i mean i dont think i could). I also believe that I read that Schwartz had the worst record (in terms of winning percentage) of any coach over a 5-year period since the coach of the winless Tampa Bay team of the 70's. Caldwell is a fake coach, propped up by Peyton Manning running the entire organization. That the Colts imploded when Manning got injured is a pretty good indicator of who called the shots there. Tressel opened the door to say he would be interested, but other than a false Twitter report last week that he had been interviewed (it was quickly retracted), nothing from the Browns camp. They prefer to only interview coaches who have worked with HOF QBs (Josh McDaniels, Adam Gase in Denver) because clearly they have one of those in Cleveland as well and the transition would be so smooth. Tom Moore was the architect of the Colts offense. All Caldwell did was run that team into the ground. He's an awful coach. I'm actually feeling sorry for Lions fans.
