KDIGGZ Posted August 19, 2013 Share Posted August 19, 2013 lindell was very accurate within 50 yards but the fact that he can't kick the ball very far was his downfall. in addition to being pretty accurate on fg's beyond 50 yrds, Hopkins will more often than not kick the ball out of the back of the endzone on kickoffs. that's a very valuable skill to have now that they moved the kickoff spot back up to the 35 last year. lindell had a kickoff returned for a TD in the last game (it was called back because of a penalty) because he kicked it short without enough air under the ball. the Bills made the right choice imo Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Talk about revisionist history. His first draft was terrific, yielding Clements, Schobel and Travis Henry. All of these guys were excellent value. Jennings played well in spots but was fragile. Later, Josh Reed was a solid 2nd rounder. Terrence McGee is one of the best 4th round picks they've ever made. GREAT move getting a first rounder for Peerless Price. There were TONS of failures during the guy's tenure and they started with his coaching picks. But let's be realistic here. It's never all good - or bad. papazoid Posted August 19, 2013 Share Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) B because the expected points saved over the course of a season due to worse starting field position for the opposition far outweighs the few extra points from FGs... this is interesting.... most teams attempt 30-40 FG's per season, assuming a 10% dropoff that's 3-4 more FG's missed. are there any stats to show your points saved by starting field position ? and speaking of field position, the penalty for a missed 50+ yard FG is pretty severe as the opposing team takes possession at the spot of the FG attempt. Said Hopkins is "as-advertised" and predicted he will be very good; was hoping he would be a "knucklehead" but that wasn't the case. Thanked the Bills' organization and said he'll always be a Bills fan; not ready to retire so he will try to catch on with someone. I detected no bitterness at all. Any team that has the luxury of keeping a kickoff specialist and someone for field goals will grab him in a heartbeat. Lindell nailed something like a 50-yarder, which I think would have won it (can't remember for sure), but the Chiefs called timeout before he kicked it. He then proceeded to shank the follow-up. Damn, that ticked me off. Nevertheless, classy guy, a great kicker, and a real professional. Glad he was a Buffalo Bill. I remember that game too. Remember he took a huge divot out of the grass when he hit the first, and they stupidly spotted the ball in the exact HOLE that the first kick was in. If he couldn't make a crucial FG like that one, he never will. Boy was I ever wrong. He turned out to be one of the most reliable Kickers the Bills have ever had. I hope that these two gentlemen find themselves together again on a SB bound team. They were both top class players/teammates and all-around great guys. The new guy has 75% tb ratio in preseason so far. That's great! He also has made all his fgs. 100% You cant do better than 100%. I'm sorry. But out with the old, in with the new!!!!!! He empathizes with what it's like for a player to be cut. #respect its nice that hes fairly current and "gets it" i remember some rough patches with the fans not liking lindell, but its great to hear all the positivity today. he seems like one of the good ones.
