Getting rid of Aaron Williams at this point is just stupid.

He's young. Athletic. And he's going into a defense that is less predictable and, hopefully, brings more pressure. The Bills must give him a chance in this defense. He may be (prolly not, but) the best press CB in NFL History. Since they're not going anywhere in 2013, I think it's important to evaluate their current assets before investing in replacements.

This.

I am surprised he made statements like this. In past he has done things which should endear him to the Buffalo Faithful such as attending High School Football Games on Friday Nights and tweeting what game he will be at. Fans that have met him in public say that he is very approachable and a good guy. A new system is probably just what he needs to turn it around.

Not making excuses for the guy, but it would also be good to keep in mind that the Rock is HUGE again right now. He just won Royal Rumble mere hours before these tweets went out, so Im sure that had something to do with it. I dont think Aaron Williams thought "these fans should know their roles", as much as it was just a topical tweet to shut someone up.

Twitter, Facebook those are more personal than TSW. This place is a fan forum for posting your opinion of a player performance. It is what it's for. If a player comes here and reads something he doesn't like that is on him for coming into our "home". But a player's twitter or facebook account is their home, and is on par with sending hate mail. If you want to tell the player himself how you feel about him, say it to their face don't hide behind your keyboard. If you want to vent about a player to your fellow fans your in the right place.

Yeah, let me just call up a professional player so he can meet me while I tell him he sucks. Cmon now.

Why are people saying he's a safety? Has any of the Bills' staff said anything of the sort?

I remeber when they drafted him Buddy mentioned safety was a possibility but they wanted to try him at corner first.

The so-called draft experts had him going late 1st, some to the Steelers. This was viewed at the time as a good pick. He may pan out. Our entire defense was horrifying last year. With good coaching and a pass rush, this kid may pan out to be a solid contributor to a good defense.

Here's to hoping that finally having good coaching and an exciting scheme will bring out the best in him and the rest of the defensive unit. Leadership does make a difference. Our team has had none for far too long! Here is an interesting article from before the 2011 draft about Williams and how he was viewed (I assume it's possible that he still has a chance to turn out OK):

We're all very hopeful that better defensive coaching will turn around the careers of several Bills defenders.

There's actually a chance that our wishing and hoping might actually have some substance to it this time.

Here's a piece in the Buffalo News by Mark Gaughan which basically confirmed what all of us were saying last season: that the Bills D was unimaginative, didn't blitz or stunt enough and was over-reliant on a soft zone scheme:

http://www.buffalone...ills-drive-1082

The Bills blitzed on just 15 percent of pass plays under Dave Wannstedt in 2012, according to News figures. Buffalo ranked last in the NFL in blitzing the quarterback, according to ESPN.

Overall, the amount of heat on the quarterback the Bills produced was insufficient. The proof is the Bills were terrible at getting off the field. They ranked 31st on third downs, allowing opponents to convert 44 percent in that situation. And it wasn't just because the run defense was bad. They were bad on third and long, too. On third and 6 to 10, they allowed foes to convert 45 percent of pass plays. That says the quarterback was too comfortable in the pocket and the Bills were too predictable.

“They don't move guys,” Kelso said, referring to the front four. “They started to twist and stunt a little more later in the year, but there was not nearly enough movement. Too many times guys would line up on the shoulder they're responsible for and that's the rush they'd take. Sometimes they'd execute a pass rush in that situation. But rarely did they go to the opposite shoulder, rarely did they extend the defense or slant.”

The Bills played too much zone defense, as well; not enough man-to-man coverage. Wannstedt repeatedly stated during the season that his defense was young. It was obvious he didn't trust his secondary to hold up if he devoted more men to the rush. His conservatism failed miserably.

There's plenty of blame to go around for the Bills' 6-10 season. But if Wannstedt had done a decent job, Chan Gailey still would be the head coach.

We could float the idea by Brandon. The concept would be to have the players sit there while fans buy time to come in and heckle the **** out of them. What's not to like? A few more bills in the old coffers.

Just like the Sit on Santa's lap thing at the mall. Except it's scream profanities at Bills players at the mall.
