Never understood why we parted ways with Ted Nolan. I really got into hockey when Ted was the coach...he turned things around pretty quick. Then Regier axed him and Lindy showed up. Wondering what the Sabes would have accomplished if Nolan stuck around longer. At least he had a fire in his belly....Lindy on the other hand- seems bored. The eruption from that goal only twisted the knife more. It's the same when the Red Wings are here. Even worse when the Yankees play the Rangers. I know a handful of STH that are disgusted with the on ice product and have begun selling their tickets on some days when they have better stuff to do. In the 11 years since Hasek left Buffalo, the Sabres have had the #10 ranked defense twice, and #4 once....the #4 ranking came in 2010, when Miller won the Venzna trophy. W ith Hasek the defense under Ruff was #3, #8, #2 and #1. So, it appears that Lindys' defensive philosophy amounts mostly to "have a damn good goaltender". One good period of hockey against another team that is struggling, at home, is not going to cut it...this loss the same as all the others...give up a goal in the opening minutes, cough up the puck on every possession, stand around and watch the other team skate circles around you in your own end...just bad hockey. The Sabres looked like they hit the jackpot with Terry Pegula but he is in love with his guys or at least refuses to pull the plug after only two years. (Instead he hands out extentions.) I'm not sure they realize that they are risking their ticket buyers at this point. Buffalo fans put up with a lot but they may give up on the Sabres. He is doing the best thing an owner can do which is letting the GM make all the personal decisions and not getting in the way of him. If he comes to the conclusion that he made a mistake in re-signing the GM, I don't think he will necessarily let the money stand in the way of firing him. I am honestly not sure that Reiger is the problem...I do think there is talent on this team...certainly enough that they shouldn't be a solid playoff contender every year...jeesh...playing just slightly above .500 hockey will normally get a team in. Yet every year, it seems (except the Prez Cup year) the Sabres dig themselves a big hole, and then have to scratch and claw their way out of it...if they make it out, they are usually a drained team and get bounced right away from the playoffs...or, they just barely miss... They just aren't producing on the ice...and there doesn't really seem to be the sense that there will be any repercussions for failure. I like Lindy Ruff, don't get me wrong, but, as the old cliche goes, you can't fire all the players, so you have to make a change somewhere.
