Cowher is easily the best HC choice. But the Bills won't get him unless they offer him the power to make all player personnel decisions.

 

Taking a chance on all of these no name college coaches, most of whom have only been successful for a few years at the college level, would be a huge, huge mistake.

 

The NFL is a totally different level. It takes NFL experience to succeed at the NFL level. One would be wise to select a HC who has actually succeeded at the NFL level. How about a HC who has actually competed with the like of B. Belichick and outcoached him?????

 

If N. Saban, probably the best college coach alive, could not succeed at the NFL level, what in the world makes think that all of these no name guys that are suddenly coming out of the woodwork would??

I just don't think that Buffalo will be looking for a strong silent type head coach like Lovie Smith. After Gailey and Jauron, I think someone like Smith's style is too similar to those head coaches and they want bigger change this time around.

 

I voted for Mike McCoy, but I'm very interested in the Syracuse head coach and Horton (who's name wasn't even listed).

i'm on the lovie bandwagon but this chip kelly guy is very intriguing. he sounds like the kind of long term, let him learn the ropes kind of coach in the pittsburgh steelers give 'em some rope tradition. give hime security and tenure and let him form his craft NFL style. kind of risky but let's see how the interview process goes- if he agrees to a pow wow. reading his wiki bio pretty much sells me.

while lovie might get the bills to the playoffs sooner- kelly has the potential to build a dynasty system once he finds his way.

right - in 2010 they were in the NFC Championship game, 2011 they were 7-3 before Cutler went down, and finished this year 10-6 with Cutler missing 2 games due to concussion. if we hadn't split with Minny, it would be the Bears in the playoffs right now. the more I think on this Lovie firing, the more I see this as a new GM wanting his own guy. otherwise they'd have just blown up the oline, fired Tice and promoted Bates from within. the Bills would be damn lucky to get Lovie, imo.

 

and as for "a couple olinemen".....I don't even know what that means....the ENTIRE line was a bunch of scrubs. week to week you never knew who was starting.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rappaport, the Bills have legitimate interest in Alex Smith as a temporary caretaker as they groom a rookie. He suggested its one of the details being discussed with Whisenhunt.

you do remember dick jauron right? lol lovie smith is just a better version of jauron. cover 2, doesnt blitz much, conservative. he was successful because his defences always had a good front 4 and have 2 hall of famers in the linebacker core

Screw the safest choice. We have been doing that for the last 13 years. Safest and cheapest.

Lovie Smith had five winning seasons, one even, and three losing seasons. Three NFC North crowns, one SB appearance with no QB. He had a ten wins with an injury plagued team. Give him solid coordinators and let him steer the ship!

Think about the choice that would give us the best chance to win the SuperBowl THIS year. Every team in the NFL thinks about this in the off-season. Except the Bills. All we want to do is improve, and have a chance, and "hey, you never know."

Lovie Smith would certainly not be the cheapest choice and maybe not the safest - he comes with an open question with regard to his choice of O coordinator. The safest choice would probably be Marty Schottenheimer - he has produced (and plateaued) everywhere he has gone.

 

I see Wade Phillips is on none of these lists... wonder why!

How many pro games had "Chip" won? Lovie would be a huge upgrade for us and he got my vote.
