Maybin waived by Jets

Per Rotoworld.....

Maybin appeared to get his career back on track as the team's most effective per-play pass rusher in 2011, but he had just two QB hits and zero sacks this season. The No. 9 overall pick in the 2009 draft managed just one tackle on 120 snaps through eight games.

I will eat a little crow on this one...to be clear, I never once said he was gonna do anything or be any good. But I did say in preseason that it would not surprise me to see him hit double digit sacks if the Jets just used him as a blitz specialist like last year for a full season given he got 6 in limited time last year as a part time player while still learning the defense. Plus, the Jets were hyping him pretty big, so sounded like he might finally be finding a role. In my defense, I did say I still didn't expect him to be any good, just that it wouldnt surprise me if he managed double digit sacks just doing more of what he did last year.

At the same time, it does not surprise me at all that he did nothing and is now cut and is just another example of the Jets hype machine BS.

i dont know how anyone thought hed be good at anything. hes a slow version of plaxico burress.

He is good at one thing. One thing only. The outside speed rush with decent coverage to give him time. The Jets were able to put him in that position. They are short at CB this year and Maybin bulked up to be an everydown player. He's not. He sacrificed speed for no gain, but that makes your point about him being slower than stupid rather true.

at 6'4 and 235 lbs or so is the same build as plaxico burress.... not another dline player, but a WR was likely his closest comparable in build last year for the jets.... and at maybins quickest 40 times hes essentially the same speed. no one would ever say "hey lets let plax get after the qb and try him at DE" but thats just what we did.

like you said, when he bulked up (combine) he came out SLOW.

just mind boggling he went so high when you look at his resume from that one year (both on the field, and in shorts).

There are probably guys on this board who could get six sacks if they a) didn't ever worry about the run and b) took a route to the QB via Bangor, ME while the best secondary in football covered everyone for an ice age. That's basically what happened last season a few times and suddenly people thought this guy had discovered some talent? Ridiculous.

2012 showed the real Maybin. Dominated on every play I saw him in this year. Every single play.
