[closed]Do we really have room for 3 kickers?

Recommended Posts

Probably.

The fact Brad Smith can play several positions can save a active roster spot.

The fact that Bryan Scott plays both nickel LB and back-up SS can save an active roster spot, especially because Wilson can play both safeties.

Nix drafted Asper in the 6th round because they expect him to be able to back-up both C and G, and if he makes the team he could save an active roster spot.

The plan to get two backs on the field together, which will often result in CJ or Fred split wide or in motion could possibly save a need for a #6 WR. They were willing to activate Ruvell Martin to basically just play ST and be emergency WR, but if the K can KO deep and get touchbacks, the need for Martin lessens, and if Bradham and Brooks play ST as advertized, along with Tank, the need for Martin lessens, which could save an active roster spot.

The fact that Mario can go inside and rush at DT on passing downs, combined with Carrington and Spencer Johnson being able to play both DT and DE in emergencies should guys go down in game, could save an active roster spot.

The fact we rarely run out of a two TE set, we can afford to activate two instead of three TEs could help, too.

There are surely a lot of ways to go, game by game, to get the guy on the field if we want to. If he had 44% touchbacks from 5 yards further out, it's not hard to imagine he could kick 55% deep enough to not be run out.

3 kickers? Lindell, Potter, and who? Lindell will make the team, and Potter will be our insurance kicker on the PS.

I don't see any reason for them to keep a kicker on the practice squad, if Potter doesn't make it my guess is he's cut outright.

I don't see why they wouldn't have room for an extra kicker, they kept Ruvell Martin all year last year for the sole purpose of being on coverage teams. If they can find someone to replace him (Ron Brooks?) I don't see why they can't devote that spot to a kicker instead. Plus, in addition to kickoffs, Potter could also serve as a long FG specialist if the instance arrives.

If I were Lindell, I would be uneasy about this situation.

If Potter shows that he can boom it into the end zone consistently and has roughly equivalent accuracy on FGs and PATs as Lindell, Lindell could be a goner.

Having a guy that can consistently KO in the EZ (if Potter can) would be worth a roster spot. And I think that Moorman is gone and the UDFA P (Powell) will make the team.

That's a tall order. Lindell is 83% on FGs as a Bill and has only missed one PAT in his career.

Does everybody remember they JUST SIGNED Lindell to a three-year deal this offseason? That wasn't because they planned to cut him in favor of a rookie KO specialist.
