4 Offensive lineman taken in first round...2 OT and 2 G.

3 CBs.

We got the 8th player overall.

Now, if "the good teams" build the O line, and the bad ones take CBs, then why were only 4 O line taken? We have heard that the OT depth in this draft is immense? IF that is true, and if OL is the most critical position, and if the good teams draft O line...then how come only 4 were taken? :P So there Bill :P

The fact is: college is playing spread offense. So, like it or not, the NFL, over time, will be moving to spread offense...because they have to take who college sends them. That means that on offense, we will be playing a lot more spread offense, again, like it or not. That means that on defense, we will need to cover spread offense a lot more, again, like it or not.

That means 3 things:

1. LBs are going to be less and less important going forward, because they are going to be substituted for CBs...and hybrids like Byran Scott(glad we re-signed)

2. We will be playing our 3rd best corner....a lot more than our 3rd best LB

3. Offensive Tackles, especially LT, are going to become less important than they were in the past. In fact, the entire O line will need to be more run maulers than pass block technicians. Less skill required on O line means less skilled O lineman....which means more starters can be had in later rounds.

Meanwhile the demand for cover corners keeps rising.

Again, like it or not, college eventually dictates what happens in the pros, and while I like power football as much as the next guy, the spread offense is taking over.

Yeah the idea of Williams and Gilmore growing up in the league together is an exciting prospect. A good pass rush may make secondaries better, but a secondary that's good to begin mixed with a good pass rush can be division changing.

Yeah but a great defense can't score all the time and the offense looks like hot fecal matter. Fitzmoney is not the anwser at qb and coupled with sj being triple covered the offense is going to be terrible.

If you were watching ESPN, I think that "the pick is in" tag was up there in place of the clock like 90% of the time.

It seemed like the Bills picked right away because the pick announcements were delayed as a result of quick picks by teams before the Bills as well as players taking a while to walk out and get their pictures taken. In certain camera shots on ESPN you could see the draft timer along with the draft pick number, and the Bills were already on the clock well before the Panthers' pick was announced. They didn't spend their whole 10 minutes, but it wasn't an immediate pick.

So I actually read all 17 pages of this thread, and I came away learning absolutely nothing about Gilmore. VERY disappointing, guys. For the past 3 years, Gilmore played in the best football division in the country and covered some of the very best WR talent. Can't we talk a little more about that stuff and less about the value of the CB position?

And for the record, Whitner and McKelvin were different players drafted by a different regime. If Gilmore develops into a quality #1 CB at the pro level, then this was a great pick...regardless of this franchise's dubious draft history with DB's.

TOTALLY AGREE! The guy has a laid back personality. Just look at this video...Guy is going to be a STUD!

And...what was the answer....at 10...for QB...in this draft? Brandon F'ing Weedon? Who was taken at 22?

Because we don't have any other picks in the draft right? There are no other receivers to be had and we are heading into training camp with this roster. One pick and it's all over. Never mind the fact that apparently your memory is too short to remember how good this offense was before Fitz and Freddie got hurt. But it's more convenient for your point to ignore it I suppose.

I don't think any team triple covered Stevie. We have an amazing run game, chandler is a recieving threat, Jackson was deadly as a slot reciever, and we can still add a big body deep threat in rounds 2 or 3. And if the bills can find a half decent tackle in the late 4th round, then I think they can find a decent starter at 2 or 3. I get we need lt and receiver, but this draft is deep with those players, especially wr.

But all you people that think defenses are going to have the luxury of triple teaming Stevie are crazy. They couldn't do it last year and they arent going to do it this year. Especially if we draft a decent receiver tomorrow

Smells of Jauron. Nix has said he would pick the best availible the last twodtafts. This time he went with a half need. Needed Floyd more then a CB. Oh well its Buffalo. Status quo. Doesn't sound like Gilmore wants to play in buf anyways.

LOL

You might want to listen to his interview on bb.com.

And more important things....

Which could have been addressed by picking who? If it's Floyd, we will be able to fill that tomorrow. Can't pick up a corner as good as Gilmore later in the draft. We can get a good receiver though.
