Leaf's Latest Low

* Manning: Has become an NFL god.

* Leaf: Arguably the biggest QB 1/2 draft bust of all time (not to take away anything from JRuss).

Funny, I heard Leaf on Colin Cowherd (I think, or was it Rome? They both suck!), right around the Super Bowl. He had just put a book out, about his bumpy road traveled, before "turning it all around". He wanted to mentor young NFL QB's, on how not to make the same mistakes he made...I actually felt kind of sorry for him, while listening...but it sounds like it was all BS. Art Schlister pulled the same stuff...I believe Schlister is back in jail, and Ryan appears headed there. Sounds like maybe Tebow could mentor him...

Wasn't there a Real Sports segment on him, too? I felt bad for him, too, but it seemed like he had put his life together. I guess he's getting more examples together of what not to do.

Thanks for the heads-up on the interview! It was Rome, but the audio seems to only be available to subscribers. Here's an article about it, though.

All seriousness aside, I believe he's the one who will be "mentored" in prison. ;)

Had all the talent in the world, still sucked as Pro QB . Have to wonder if the benign tumor effected his personality.

I'm betting an "Oxy" addiction, ruined more lives than heroin, cocaine and maryjane together; brought to you by the FDA.

Yes. Opiates are EVIL. So's Xanax, but the various stories did say it was a pain killer -- So I, too, would bet on Percs.

That's sad. I was hoping he would turn it around after his drug addiction. He needs some professional help. He's still young and can still make a good life for himself as a coach at division III. Get into rehab, get clean, and get your life back in order. He needs someone to follow him around like Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers. Occasional relapses will happen, but he needs to fight this with the same tensity with which he played football in college.

We all laugh but addiction is really bad. Tried giving up smoking for 40 years. So did many. Finally did when it almost killed me and I still wanted to smoke. Pills I'm told are 10 times as bad. Wonder what he did with his money? His agent should have taken him under his wing. The NFL has planners that help you if you ask. There are alot of smart guys in the NFL and it still happens to them. Greed is the cause of the agents etc. taking advantage of the players. Ask the Mannings who represents them. Family. Smart guys. Too bad about Leaf but not a surprise.

Leaf had an agent named Josh Luchs, the whistleblower agent who no longer has a client in the NFL. His real representation and "role model" was his father, a real treat of a guy. He was destined to fail with his bevy of addiction and mental issues.Hell of an arm, but absolutely zero self control. As much as the media can get on Archie, he has done a very good job of raising two men who are strong role models and consummate professionals in their field.

Addiction sucks. Those who've never been through it do not know what it means.

Take the high road guys... I hope he turns his life around in a positive way!

I do, too. But how many chances should he get?

We all are responsible for our own actions. My docs prescribed me highly addictive meds for many years and my detox was a REAL b*tch. That said, I never felt the urge to commit a burglary -- or any crime for that matter.

It's more than addiction with Leaf. Dude's got some serious psychological issues.

Hope for the best, but after posting bail for the charges this thread was started with, he was just arrested again today (Monday)

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/04/ryan-leaf-arrested-for-second-time-in-three-days/1

Interesting comments to that article (these days often more interesting than the article itself), particularly the one by a woman who was at WSU when Leaf was and who says he was an incredible jerk when there. Reminds me of the story making the rounds about Leaf around the time he came out when he allegedly tried to put the moves on some other NFL QB's wife, telling her her hubby was washed up and Leaf was the new sheriff in town or some such. I don't wish him ill, but what goes around comes around. Sounds like karma's whacked him, but good. If that story is true, it would be funny for him to run into that QB and his wife today.....

Art Schlicter had a gambling problem. Ryan Leaf is a straight up thief. Sad though, he was a great talent in college and could have at least made it into the coaching ranks almost immediately.

He looks fairly content, almost happy, in the first set. The second looks a lot more like a mug shot should.

Perhaps more interesting he looks a lot younger and healthier than Payton manning, the guy he'll always be compared. Makes you wonder about the toll NFL takes on a body, worse than drugs and poverty

HELENA, MT—Criminal and football analysts announced Monday that, in light of his second arrest for felony burglary in just four days, former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf is now officially performing even worse as a criminal than he did as a disastrous 2nd overall pick for the San Diego Chargers. "Make no mistake, Ryan Leaf is still the worst draft bust of all time," Sports Illustrated's Peter King said. "But two arrests mere days apart for attempting to steal oxycodone from private residences when he's already serving a 10-year probation? That is a truly remarkable achievement. Leaf is soon going to make us forget all about his football career."

In related news, future NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning, the only player chosen ahead of Leaf in the 1998 draft, walked off with $250 million in a complex Monaco heist so perfect it will take casino owners weeks to realize it happened at all.
