A New Domed Bills Stadium in the Falls?

Recommended Posts

"What is the bigger move? What could the people of Western New York do to make a national statement that the Bills are our team, the NFL our birthright, and that we are serious about being a real player at a poker table many think has reached a level too steep for our wallet?

Eschewing the stadium renovations in favor of building a state-of-the-art domed stadium would be the first shot across the bow that I'd fire to serve that notice nationally. Putting that stadium in downtown Niagara Falls would be the second."

Would you support a plan to build a new dome in place of shelling out $100 million to update the Ralph?

A DOME FOR THE BILLS IN NIAGARA FALLS COULD KEEP TEAM HERE, REVITALIZE CITY

Ever since I saw that $100 million plus price tag for renovations I thought, why the heck don't we just put that towards a new stadium? That does make a certain amount of sense. Of course money is an issue, and getting that type of investment in this economic climate seems difficult at best.

But a dome? No freaking way. I don't think true Bills fans could ever support a dome. The bad weather games are part of this franchise, like they are in Green Bay, Chigago, and Cleveland.

This guy would make a "national statement" by putting a putting a new NFL stadium in......Niagra Falls..NY?

And we are going to "be a real player at a poker table many think has reached a level too steep for our wallet"----by borrowing a billion dollars to play at that table?

Doesn't this guy have an editor?

Just read, or to be honest scanned a paper done by a Holy Cross student in 2009. The paper was all about the economic impact of the Super Bowl on the host cities.

Look it up, no i am not smart enough to provide link.

There is some discrepancy over how much money is brought in. But if you went conservative and said $300mil. and you were able to get the SB once every 10 years. then that event alone would eat a huge chunk of your initial out lay of capital.

I agree that Jerry Jones' Dome was over the top.

No clue what a stadium would cost by the Falls.

But you should make it a retractable roof. Miami in December the roof stays open!

Agreed. No Dome, If you're gonna do it, do it right. Build a new stadium in DOWNTOWN BUFFALO!! We are The BUFFALO BILLS Dammit all!!!

That survive only from fan support from cities outside of buffalo like Rochester and niagara falls. Fan base already extends well past buffalo, paroChial arguments dont apply here.

Domed stadiums are noisier than outdoor and that can only benefit the home team.

Weathers effect is indeterminate.

I get tired of hearing announcers saying how loud the fans are in a dome stadium. Not very difficult to be loud indoors. Anyway, football is meant to be played outside in open stadiums. People are getting soft in this country. If it's too cold stay home. Will never forget Jets game Christmas '93. -2 with -30 wind chill when I woke up that morning. It hurt but it was great!! and there were over 70,000 at the game.

are you CRAZY?????

First, the cost would be prohibitive. Who is going to pay for a dome? You talk to your local version of the reactionary tea club? They are not about to endorse a tax increase to cover a domed entertainment center and if you think there are a collection of us anxiously wishing we could pay a seat license fee for a ten game season you really are crazy.

I don't know any football fan who does not compliment the sight lines at THE RALPH and I have never felt like I was sitting in a second rate stadium (To me football is an outdoor game and the Bills get an advantage with our weather that only wusses can't tolerate while watching a game.). The walls are not crumbling ... the toilets work ... and the food has improved. I go to a football stadium to see a football game ... even as I have gotten older I know how to dress for bad weather days and nothing is more glorious than to sit in the stadium with the sun shining down on a beautiful fall day!

And, we sell out THE RALPH so a dome wouldn't bring in more fans. Actually a winning team creates more fans ...

So ... no no no to a dome! If we could travel back in time 40 years then I would say a Falls stadium would be my second choice of a location right after one in downtown Buffalo.

I hope that 10 years from now I will still be travelling to THE RALPH to get one of the best ticket deals in the NFL and cheer on my team! That will hopefully be relishing memories of the FITZ led Super Bowl teams!

Just to clarify, I don't prefer a dome myself, but I think in this weather climate one is needed to justify the cost. Albany would never pony up $1 billion + for a stadium with single digit usage days per year. A dome would allow for many more events and a retractable roof might be the way to go for football.

The idea is to find real, tangible ways to keep the team in WNY. The $100 million renovation figure is the MINIMUM that the NFL would require to even consider keeping the team here.

Niagara Falls gets shafted by NY State annually. All of the millions collected at the Niagara Falls State Park go to Albany and never return. Casino dolllars - same thing. Hydro power dollars - they leave too and people here pay some of the higest rates in the nation for electricity.

Leveraging that is a way to hold Albany's feet to the fire. Isn't about time that the capital did soemthing for WNY beyond lip service?

State coffer will benefit from anything that can bring in major media events to a locale in NYS like a super bowl. They should like this

With all this lease and stadium renovation talk I highly doubt this would happen in the near future. In addition to that, where would the money come from?

I'm all for a retractable roof dome, but I don't know if it's a realistic idea.

Quick question, if a stadium does have a retractable roof, does it have to be closed for every poor weather game? Because as much as the controlled climate would help bring events to the area, I wouldn't want to give up the whole Buffalo football atmosphere.

Experience has shown that retractable domes are ALWAYS closed in bad weather. Period. There is no reason for the roof otherwise. Those who dream of a dome that could be opened in the winter are even more delusional than the people who imagine a domed stadium next to Niagara Falls....

Absolutely. Time is now. Ralph the stadium is like Ralph the owner; no amount of money on a face lift will mask it over.

It would be a powerful symbol next to one of wonders of the world and provide Goodell/NFL with exposure to an international tourist audience base that they covet.

SUDDENLY we'd be a team the NFL wants to support and highlight rather than shun.

People from buffalo proper will remain fans no matter how much they moan becUse they don't have alternatives . The new fans brought in will be a net posiive.

For the umpteenth time......Niagara Falls is NOT one of the Wonders of the World. And domes are for protected sex, not our Buffalo Bills. Thumbs Down!
