Too bad he plays center. He's not cut out to be a guard. He was moved from the guard position, where he wasn't all that great to center, where he flourished in the 2006 season.

It'd be counterproductive to move Wood from center at this point. That'd only mess up Fitzpatrick and the o-line as a whole as that position makes the line calls and adjustments.

The preseason continuity in this instance outweighs any benefit from bringing in a new guy. It's probably the last position you want to tinker with with only a game left in preseason.

Time to leave the line alone and settle with what you have. Constant messing with the line at this point only gets everyone out of sync. Buffalo has to play with what they have even if it gets Fitzy placed on the DL. Nix was not concerned all of the off season with bringing in anyone to help shore up a porous offensive line, why pick up somebody else's trash now? This team will do no better than what the Bills coaching staff can scheme with what they have. You can't make chicken soup out of chicken sh*t.

guy is definitely better than either of the revolving doors we have playing RG right now. I know Parcells moved him from guard to center... so while its not his best position, he can play there

The o-line the last half of the season last year is almost the same as it is now and yet Fitz made it through the season without any major issues. So far in 3 pre-season games he has yet to get killed anymore then most other QB's.

i don't get why everyone thinks that all of the sudden the season is gonna start and Fitz won't make it through a game.

Its not really a "former" pro bowler when he has made the last 5 pro bowls. I would say thats a current pro bowler. Not that we will sign him but its so funny that no one is an upgrade on our line. Poor Fitzpatrick is going to have his promising career shattered in one season if he plays behind this line as it is now. His confidence will be shot just like what happened with Edwards

Obviously Nix won't sign anyone who isn't better than what we have. Despite the pithy insights of some here, a former Pro Bowler with a bad knee or back is NOT always better than what we have.

They probably are.. right now. Buddy is building a roster of young twenty somethings instead of cutting them for old over the hill guys. And with the salary floor in 2013, the guys they are growing now hopefully will be rewarded with good second contracts. The approach makes sense, just means not too many wins this year as the roster is grown and matures. If this year and next years drafts work out, we could be OK two seasons from now...

This philosophy applies every year for Bills fans...problem is we are always building for a future that never arrives.

Bringing in a veteran may not be the worst thing for a young team lacking leadership and talent. So far Buddy has not produced, until he does it is not a philosophy for success.

Well at least he ahs experience there. I doubt he goes from a PB C to a below average G. he could be very good for us.

Parting with Gurode, who has also played guard in the NFL, saves Dallas $5.5 million in cap money. NFL rosters league-wide must be reduced to 80 players by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Every team builds for the future, but what has hurt the Bills is that they have had so many misses with their top picks that should be making an impact right now (not being cut or traded). These are picks that have received big signing bonuses with the expectation of big performances that unfortunately have not materialized for the Bills.

Gurode was apparently contacted by six teams, one of them being the Seahawks, whom he is visiting, according to the Great Gazoo on Twitter. Not known what are the other ones at this point.

I hope we are not one of those teams. Our greatest need is tackles followed by RG. While I understand sliding Wood back to RG and using Gurode as a C may be tempting, it is not a good idea in this case as Gurode is quite old. Using a stop gap for a position where we are grooming a promising guy (Wood) as the long term answer is not ideal. We are better off using stop gap solutions at the above mentioned need spots where we currently have low talent levels.

IMO, if we want him and he is healthy, we cut Hangartner and replace him with Gurode. Wood stays at C. Gurode, Urbik and Rinehart fight it out at the two OG spots and Gurode plays C if Wood goes down. It just makes us significantly better if Gurode is healthy.

If you're signing Gurode he is not fighting it out with anyone. 5 time and current pro-bowler is guaranteed to start or he goes elsewhere.

Of course he would start if he were healthy. He had surgery on his knee and didn't start running until a month ago. He's probably healthy but it's not certain that he's 100%, and in shape, until you work him out. He would definitely start at one spot when healthy though. He's very likely not as good as he was though, and apparently did not have a very good year last year, despite his pro bowl appearance, from what I have been reading.
