personal conduct and drug testing are two different things. im still curious to confirm whether it takes possession, or if an actual positive test is required to get a suspension.

If Goodell decides that "possession" is bad personal conduct, then all it takes is possession.

If they took the stuff off him and was submitted to a lab for testing then it is still there - of course they won't suspend him on a blogger's accusation, but you think the league won't look into this once they catch wind of it (assuming they haven't already) You think the border patrol won't cooperate with the league? Think again.

I understand wishful thinking, but if what Moran said is true, prepare for Merriman to be suspended for a year.

This story "broke" nearly three weeks ago. What's taking the league so long to catch wind of it?

GO BILLS!!!

Don't you need to have some sort of proof like an arrest record? Just being detained and released isn't proof of anything.

what's wrong with saying busted? when you get busted for lying to your spouse, or eating the last cookie in the cookie jar, are you also getting arrested? he simply means busted = got caught

let it go, folks

Again, getting "caught" implies there were consequences for getting caught. There have, at least until now, been none, and the only way there POSSIBLY could be any is if the NFL follows up on these "reports" and finds something.

I don't think Moran is making it up; I do think it's entirely possible he is trusting sources too eagerly (and in a not-journalistic fashion) in order to pump up his fan website and to possibly increase his own credibility in the event that this is found to be true.

The guy is not proving himself to be a journalist. Most journalists I work with work a hell of a lot harder, and try to make that work evident in the final deliverable to the public.

You make him sound like judge, jury and executioner. Damn...he is just that.

I guess there's no point in pressing the issue about him shepherding Vick off to Philly then is there?

How can possession of a banned performance enhancing substance not be in violation of personal conduct rules - he has it - what is he going to do with it? Whether the answer is buy or sell, he's suspended.

Because there is no proof that anything even happened other than the 2nd hand word from a blogger.

Like Ben Rothlesberger?

Goodell does what Goodell wants. "Bringing the league into disrepute" is all it requires - and that is determined solely at Goodell's discretion and judgement.

It's not the Patriots, Steelers, or Packers, so ESPN hasn't reported it, so the league doesn't know about it yet.

When the real story comes out, Bills fans will be furious to learn that it was actually Michael Vick who had the steroids, but Roger Goodell made the cops "bust" Merriman instead.

How the F should I know. Who says they don't know? Maybe they were waiting for lab reports to come back - that is the likely explanation why the story is just being released now, especially since Moran has known about it for weeks.

But there absolutely has to be some kind of report originating from border patrol / immigration for Goodell to take any action. There is no way that Goodell, powerful though he may be, could suspend Merriman based on suspicion and the Moran report alone.
