WOW, is all I can think to say. So now who do we lose a shot at? Fairley? Bowers? NEWTON?!?

The fans down here in Charlotte are in shock. According to the calls they are jumping on the Vince Young bandwagon and drafting Fairley #1.

Also, it will be interesting to see how Luck does next CFB season. Will he be another Locker or another Bradford?

Don't forget - he has TWO more years of eligibilty!

Er... d'ya mean will he suffer a couple rough injuries, miss all but three games and still get a team to believe he's the #1 QB available?

Yeah but he's only staying to get his degree. It shouldn't take him more than one college year.

They said the same things about Bradford after not declaring the year he won the Heisman as a RS Sophomore. He returned, hurt his shoulder twice, had an operation, still went #1 overall, and will likely be ROTY. Luck is better than Locker in every way. That comparison is ridiculous on any level.

Bradford wasn't the prospect that Luck was at the same time and also needed to fill out. Bradford was not a slam dunk top pick or even top 5 pick at the end of his sophomore year. Oklahoma also competes for a national title every year. I don't think Bradford mentioned staying for any reason other than football. Locker, like Luck, cited not wanting to leave the college atmosphere. Huge red flag.

Wow. I must say I'm relieved. We will finally stop hearing the " we gotta draft Luck" broken record. Now lets focus on D...

Absolutely.

This trade up at any cost to draft Luck was foolish talk. Defense (front seven) should be the top priority. The Bills were last in the league in run defense for a reason. Lack of talent!!!!

Gotta respect his decision. He understands the value of an education. But to walk away from the amount of money that he is going to walk away from and set your family up for life is admirable yet leaves me scratching my head a little bit. Nonetheless, kudos to Luck for sticking to his guns.

Its just poor logic, is what it is. He can get an education the rest of his life after football or in the offseason. Besides, the entire point most people make when they say "Its so important to get a good education", is because it offers you the opportunity to get a better job to make more money. He had the opportunity to make the most money he ever will make, so to not take that is just downright illogical, especially considering he could go back to school at any point in time.

Apparently he didn't learn much from Jake Locker, who will likely not be a 1st round pick this year because he decided to stay in school and cost himself millions upon millions of dollars. Not only that, he will now be dealing with a rookie salary cap when he does come out next year, which will limit his pay further, and that's even IF, and that's a big IF, he is the consensus number 1 pick next year---he likely cost himself 40-65 million dollars, which I don't care how much money you think you are making, you just don't pass up.

If he's as good as everyone says he is he will make his money eventually. Good for him...assuming he sticks to this. Still can change his mind.

PTR

Ask Brian Brohm about that... if we came out a year earlier, he was projected to be a top 10 pick. Seems like $40M+ guaranteed is worth putting off the completion of formal degree a bit.

Pros: all talk about trading the whole team for Luck to move up to #1 will stop on this board

Cons: less likely to have Fairly available at #3

hmmm...

Here is another thing to consider...he is losing 3/5 of his offensive line, Harbaugh is leaving for sure, and he will be playing for a new head coach, who will very likely NOT have a 12 win team next year...when you look at all the variables involved, that has to be one of the worst decisions you could possibly make...

This raises major questions about him just as it did with Locker last year. Probably moreso because it looks like he's losing his coach and Carolina came out and said they'd take him at #1. Gotta question his competitive nature. What's he got left to prove at the college level?

Did you have the same opinion about Peyton Manning in 1997 when the Jets wanted him at #1 & he stayed in college? His competitive nature must have been questioned & he dropped in the 1998 draft to ....#1. Maybe he's so competitive that he'd rather take the sure thing & play than have his rookie year be a guessing game as to whether a lockout would keep him from playing. He might just feel like playing rather than sitting out 2011.

Really smart QBs can understand that an extra year in college can't hurt them when their families have money and that the most successful QBs spent more time playing college ball, not less.

By the 2012 season, Luck will have his degree and be ready to enter the April 2012 draft.

Yeah, unless he values his education. One bad break or Russelling it could send him into the regular world. With only half a college education he has to go back to college. Staying and finishing he gets to walk away with little worries.
