Now this is bad stadium behavior, not in Buffalo

That would probably be my gut instinct, too...and it's easier to say what you'd do in a spot like that. I don't have any kids, but I would imagine parental instincts would kick in and protect the kid (this is what my friends with kids have said to me - protecting the kid comes first, kicking arse comes second).

Trust me your parental instincts would kick in, and that instinct is not going to be to pick up your son and run away. If my son is lying on the ground crying under some drunk a-hole, said drunk a-hole is promptly going to have his teeth kicked in. Period. It's probably not the wise choice as I said, but an act of stupidity like that would not go unpunished. Of course, something like this would never happen to me anyway since I would never take my son to the Ralph for a game, let alone enemy territory.

The sad fact in all this is that NFL "fans" in the stadiums are usually just a bunch of drunk !@#$s looking for a good time or a fight. I have been to games here and there and I can tell you this much, there are far too many idiots who don't know what is going on in the game and are too busy being obnoxious and not enough real fans that appreciate competition and can enjoy a game of football even around fans of other teams while LOSING. It is just a game. There is no reason to talk **** and threaten to beat up somebody for cheering for their team.

Spot on. This idiocy goes on all over the league and the owners have no interest in stopping it if the result is lower beer sales.

I wouldn't take my family to an NFL game if the tickets were free.

You don't see this crap at any other type of sporting event -- even the NHL has eliminated such nonsense.

It was the husband of the pregnant woman that got attacked - not the pregnant woman!

Not to excuse violence, but it is a pretty big difference.

Oops, that's right, it was just the husband who got attacked. It was still classless, but that does make a difference.

A few years ago in OAK... We were talking to a family back from the game while riding on the BART back to South Frisco... Seems a rowdy Raiders' fan got in the face of this guy's young Bills' fan... The child was young and wearing a Bills jersey... The crazy OAK fan while in the child's face was yelling and screaming obscenities. The one good thing is that other Raides' fans jumped the douchebag before security came and cleaned up the mess.

Another downfall of society example first hand. Awful! I think even drunk a$s Bills fans would not stoop that low, I can only hope!!

Don't hold your breath! Remember the bear bottle off the top of the upper deck at Rich? You think it had eyes soas to navigate around a child?

1. Get the kid to safety

2. Call police

3. Have the bastard arrested.

Was this person in a VACUUM?

No one said anything to a drunk who attacks a child?

No one else had a cell phone to call security?

I find it hard to believe that the only option available was to leave the lot, go to a hospital or doctor, and call a newspaper instead of the police??

I know the macho (and parental) instinct is to kick ass, but remember - it's the one who throws the second punch who usually draws the flag.

P.S. I have four children (but they are big now)

Exactly Rock. Then again Jets fans, of course there is nothing wrong with that.;)

Most other sporting events, mainly NHL and NBA have tons of games. They are less of an "event". Take a look at soccer matches across the world. Its not as uncommon you think.

It's the parents fault for putting him in a bad situation.

OF COURSE HE GOT HARASSED, HE WAS WEARING THE OPPOSING TEAMS JERSEY!

Maybe for their next trick, they can dress him up as a KKK member and drop him off in the ghetto and see what happens.

To be clear I'm not saying the kid deserved it.

I am saying it is so 100% completely predictable that he would get harassed that the parents should never have dressed him up as a Jet and taken him there in the first place.

What terrible parents. Worst parents ever. You've got a crybaby mom who makes a huge deal out of it and writes a letter to the paper just so she can get a moment in the spotlight. Now all the other kids at school know he is a crybaby and his mom is a crybaby and his dad is a wuss and he will get ridiculed badly over this. That is certain. His dad is a spineless wimp who lets strangers physically abuse his son right in front of him in the parking lot and doesn't do anything about it.

This poor kid has no chance.

Yes, because the color of the shirt that a child wears to a football game is exactly like representing a group whose history includes murdering people based solely on their race.

This story seems really exaggerated; the kid's family turned down tickets to see a NY Jets game??

I kind of agree with this blogger's take:

http://www.clevelandfrowns.com/2010/11/strange-story-of-8-year-old-jets-fan.html

We're all assuming that the drunk tackled the kid because the kid was wearing a Jets jersey, because the only account is from the kid's father. Had the police been involved, we likely would have heard more based on witness accounts...but the parent's account is all we know.

That said, I think this guy is reading too much into it. The parents probably legitimately don't want anything - no limelight, no special treatment - just the hope that their son can once again enjoy attending a football game. It was good of the Jets to offer an all-expenses paid trip. It would probably be good of the Browns to offer the same thing (with a security escort back to their car), but this blogger doesn't need to get into a conspiracy theory.

Regardless, it doesn't matter whether the guy was drunk or actually intended on attacking the kid. This stuff needs to be prevented.

Perhaps THE MOST idiotic post in your long body of work.

And THAT'S saying something given your long body of work.

Congratulations on topping even yourself.

Yeah no reason to make a huge deal out of it. A adult physically attacking a child is perfectly acceptable and normal behavior. What the hell is wrong with her? :wallbash:

People ask why the No Fun League is happening? This is a glorious example.

Not sure who the bigger moron is though, NaPolian or the !@#$ who tackled the kid.

Sorry but can't let this go. You are an idiot. I am guessing you have not completed high school (although you should have 20 years ago). Being a tough guy gets you far in life.............. :wallbash:

The only problem is if there are 6 of his friends that are going to punish you instead. Without being there, I can't lecture but I will say it's easy to be tough on a message board but even best case is you are teaching your son "an eye for an eye" and worst case he sees his dad going to a hospital. Seems lose-lose. I know walking away isn't glorious but often times it's the right play - even if it'd feel good to hurt the other guy.

And people are wondering why the league and teams are cracking down on Tailgating and drinking at games.

The reason why this stuff doesn't happen at NHL, NBA, and MLB games is because they don't involve huge tailgate parties before the game.

I was at a Yankess/Twins game in NY city.

The Twins were winning and the game was a real snoozer. So this guy in a row in front of me stands up and starts asking if anyone is a Red Sox fan. When the Sox fans spoke up, he was flipping them the bird and actually went after a few - intending to fight them. A few of them were coming down to get into it. That was my opportunity to take a walk and report it to security. There was enough see from other perspectives, that we did not go back to our seats.

Regardless of this person's "team" he was a sick puppy.

There are plenty of bars surrounding Yankee Stadium and a few parking lots where fans were tailgating.

If you have lots of cash, there is a TON of beer to be had inside the stadium too.

Do not blame this on *huge* tailgates or football, blame it on individuals who cannot control themselves.
