They need to think creatively here; you don't just dump a top-10 pick like that. I like the idea. TE or Safety. Guy is athletic, just not a DL or LB. Nix and Wilson are probably riding him to see if he can get the kid fixed, considering he was a 1st rounder. Lots of money and face involved here. One has to wonder who made the call to draft him. Wilson was right in his statement that he bears a lot of responsibility. If he can stay out the draft discussions, we might get this thing fixed, but it looks like he is already tipping the team's hand on what they want. Frankly I'd prefer drafting a LB, OT, or WR before a QB. You can sign a reasonably good journeyman QB for year or two until you build the lines and defense. We are scoring points. We just can't stop anyone. Oh where have you gone Mr Cottrell? If the plan is to roll out for 3 years to get back to respectability, then there is no need to force the drafting of the next David Carr in year 1 when the next Peyton Manning may be coming out in year 2 or 3. Who wants another ride on a JP Losman crash-and-burn only to see another Aaron Rodgers lead elsewhere? I like the idea. TE or Safety. Guy is athletic, just not a DL or LB. The TE's we have on this team are not cutting it and it's been their craft through college and now the pros. So what makes you think Arrant Maybe might make a good TE? His "body, size, and athleticism"? What in the Wide World of Sports are some of you thinking? To be a TE, you need to be able to run routes, shed db's and lb's, have good hands (you know, for catching and stuff), block oncoming defenders (the guy can't even get around slower offensive linemen!), and be unselfish enough to stick your nose in and do some real dirty work. This is one first round draft pick you cut your losses with. Trade him for ANYTHING. I'm sure someone will take a shot if they only had to part with some future picks.....either that, or involve him in a package deal. A first round pick that can't even make ST's? He spends most of his time on the bench, what good is he doing you anyway? That would be a huge statement for a new regime looking to infuse their identity into their team. You can't blame that on him. The problem is this team has no play makers and coaches. Gaily was fired from his lat two jobs and the team he left are currently better off with out him. Especially when Buddy goes on to say that players that are top ten picks should be able to contribute immediatly and shouldn't be projects and linemen should be big and strong over speed, players that are good for more than one year, yeah, maybin has buddy written all over it. Actually, Buddy was National Scout for the Bills and the Assistant GM in San Diego before that. He prefers to scout in the southeast because he has more contacts there (seeing as he's from there), but to say he doesn't scout nor has never scouted a player from some other region of the country is nonsense. Everyone talks about how fast he is, and despite Kelsay's best efforts, he has proven himself to not be speedy enough to cover elite NFL tight ends. This might be a perfect fit for him. FOR NOW, Maybin is not strong or skilled enough to get around NFL quality left tackles, but maybe if he lined up across from the tight end, he could get around him. We clearly have an issue covering tight ends as we have gotten smoked by them every game this season. What we need is a super fast bigman who can stand up to the tight end's physicality and take him on when he is blocking for a run play, but is fast enough to be able to stay with him when he comes out to run a pass play. Now, I'm not a football coach, so I know there must be some flaws in my thinking, such as 1. if it is a true run play, how do you get him lined up against a tight end and not just create a weak spot on the line. 2. Do we know he has any coverage skills, despite his apparent physical attributes? Anyways, what do you guys think? Those guys would cut him. Maybin better take this criticism to heart, get stronger in the office season and come in with Cameron Wake intensity or this guy will be pumping gas next fall. Aaron you wont get invited to all the good parties when your playing for Winnipeg. He has 20+ Million dollars in the bank for his 2years of service to the Bills. Thats not an easy change....creative yes I agree...but to go from DE to LB then to TE is gonna make this guys head explode. TE's have to run routes which he has never done, grasp an offensive concept and block as well. I dont see Aaron Maybin making it past the half way point of this season. He is a goner. He's in good shape, you can see the definition in his arms and legs, but he's just genetically wired to be defined, not strong. He gets tossed around like a ragdoll when engaging an offensive lineman. Whoever made the decision to draft this guy should be fired if he hasn't already. From the little I have seen, he seems to have excellent short-area quickness and that's about it. He's very wooden and mechanical and does not show fluid athleticism. If he was a gifted natural athlete then the Bills would have been and still be working him in much more at OLB, as it's not like they have great OLBs on this team. Still, the fact is that they stepped back in pre-season and put him in a much more familiar role, as pass rush specialist, and he has come up puny. So, this myth that Maybin is some sort of freak athlete that could play any position on the football field if he was given the chance is a pipe dream.
