Well, we've got one team in the division licked. This team foolishly signed Santonio Holmes, Cromartie and Tomlinson after getting to the AFC Championship game. Don't they realize that the way to improve is to sit on your hands, sign an offensive lineman who is a penalty magnet that even Oakland didn't want, get rid of one of the few actual starting offensive lineman you had, sign a guy who flunked two physicals and hope you do well in the draft? I think we've got the division sewed up since Belichik and Parcells haven't really bought into the existing Bills philosophy! Super Bowl here we come!!!..

I'm detecting some dissatisfaction with the current front office here.

Relax the Jets are in a different stage in their franchise. Remember they sucked for years with getting some players in the trenches etc..They feel they have the talent to make an SB run and are putting the final pieces in place. We are far away from that so I guess we need to be patient and not become insane in the interm.

not really...more like woody johnson, mike tannebaum and coach Ryan...but what do they know..they only made it to the AFC championship game.

What do they know? Obviously they don't know that you can't build a team from big names on the downside of their career. But maybe they have it figured out this time.

And....?

Who cares? The be all/end all goal of this football team should not be to make it to the conference championship game. I understand we haven't been to the playoffs this millennium, and a trip to the championship game would be a good thing, but to say that we should be like the Jets because they attained such a status is ridiculous, IMO.

This is the same as saying the Jets were good last year becuase they drafted Sanchez, ignoring the previous drafts of linemen. There is a big difference between a team that goes far into the playoffs trying to fill their last few holes with vets and a team that is full of holes trying to rebuild from the ground up.

But they didn't build their team that way. They built their team primarily through smart drafting and acquiring a few key free agents like Scott and Faneca and presto, they're a good team.

Now, they need to fill in the cracks -- replace their #2 RB with a cheaper vet, upgrade their #2 CB, and improve their weakest position (WR) with a talented player.

Face it, the Bills and Jets have completely reversed roles from 20 years ago. They are now the team that drafts well and makes smart FA acquisitions.

The Jets will be overrated going into the season...they will be pretty good, but I think Sanchez will recess slightly and have a sophmore jinx! The Jest are pretty decent because of their drafting, but the Redskins have already proved that signing a lot of high priced FA's usually don't work out. I think the Jets will win 9 games and miss the playoffs.

The Jets did it right, they built the O-Line first. Then they got the skill players.

Now they have the best CB in the league, added another good one, got one of the better WR's in the game.

Say what you want about coach Ryan but he has those guys in the locker room believing that they can beat anybody. And Sanchez is going to get better and time goes on.

To me they are the team to beat in the AFC. and I like how they did it.

All you football geniuses forget something pretty important: The Jets don't have to beg people to play in New York City. To say the Bills are asleep at the wheel ignores all the attempts of bringing in name coaches and free agents. Did we all forget McNabb already?

The Bills have little choice but to build through the draft. We don't have $500M to overpay free agents just to get them to play here.

Its wonderful to know that the existing crew knows how you"can't" build a winning team. I think we might have done better to hire folks who know how you "can" build one.

You must be a genius because I haven't been able to decipher what the Bills philosophy has been over the past near generation? Is ineptidue a philosphy? Is excessively drafting DBs at the exclusion of the lines a philosphy? Is designating a marketing guru as the head of the football operations reflective of an organizational philosophy? Is having your finance people making personnel decisions considered a philosophy? The philosophy might be peculiar but the results have been impressively consistent.

Can you at least wait until the Nix/Gailey Bills play a single game before you conclude they don't know how to build a winning team? From the way you're carrying on you'd think they added Adrian Peterson, Andre Johnson, and Nnamdi Asomugha and not a 31 year old RB who averaged 3.3 YPC last year, a CB who hasn't done squat since 2007, and a talented yet troubled WR who is one strike away from a massive suspension.

Hey I'm waiting...if they get nine wins or more next season I'll jump right onto their bandwagon. Less than that I'll join the crowd with the tar and feathers and the ride out of town for yet another bad move in picking people to head up this sorry organization. I'd rather have LT at 3.3 ypc backing up Jackson than Lynch. I'd rather have Holmes as a receiver than Hardy, and Cromartie filled a need for the Jets... but then we don't have any needs so we might as well sit on our hands....I'm going to be amazed to see how they get nine or more wins next year but more power to the bills front office.

Love all the guys here downplaying the Jets....They have drafted well, brought in a good football FO, owner knows his place, coach is a players coach and a motivator....QB had a very solid rookie season getting better every game.

And they fill needs through the FA market...not all FA moves are bad....This board would have shat all over a Faneca signing here 2 years ago. Some guys need a new coach , new system, new motivation: Randy Moss. It's up to those that know how to evaluate players and owners trusting the football people they hired to get help from FA's.

Their team is on the rise.

I would be very excited if I were a Jets fan this year. New stadium too...

What we have on our hands as Bills fans is 10+ years of disasterous drafts, FA Aquisitions, Allowing our better players to leave to go excel on other teams (when they want money others would pay for them), going the up-n- coming coordinator route (cheap) for HC....and a meddling owner killing it for all.

This was supposed to be the offseason it all ended and we took a BIG step for the better.

I dont see it....yet. So I look at the Jets and I say....hell yes.....Cromartie added to the #1D? Santonio for a 5? Jason Taylor as a pass rush specialist? Added to my AFC Championship team? Hell Yes.

They are not building a team out of these FA pickups, theyre bettering their team with the understanding that its short term and potentially risky....if it hits.....could mean a big season.

We have done NOTHING this offseason. We appear to have our own standards of how to build a franchise apart from REALITY...and there are many on thsi board that support it by kicking every move from other teams that TRY to do it right.

Considering the switch to a 3-4 defense, the fact that the team isn't really that well equipped for said defense (who's the NT? OLBs who aren't converted DEs w/ zero experience as OLBs in a 3-4?), and issues along the O line and @ QB, just how in the world can we as fans reasonably expect this team to win nine or more games? And, if they finish short of that lofty goal, then the organization (that inherited this mess) is a failure?

Wow.

I see the results optional crowd is back in full force now that the off-season is upon us and last season is merely a distant memory.

It's obvious rebuilding is the name of the game in 2010. What few people can rationalize is how long it takes a team to rebuild. If you're the Falcons or Dolfelons, it's about 1 year. For a team like Buffalo that is constantly losing talent and replacing it with draft picks, indefinitely.

No one expected the Jets to reach the AFC Title game in 2009, but there they were. So they conducted a partial rebuild in one season, obtained their supposed QB for the future, have a real NT, top CB's, acquired 2 top WR's, and an outstanding pair of ILB's in less than two seasons. If the Bills have half that by mid season 2013 (assuming they've extended the stadium lease and remain in Buffalo) we'll all do cartwheels.

You meanlike a 5ht round pick!?!?!?!?!?!

Holmes would be the best WR on the team (yes he is better than Evans). Name me one player in the draft who we could take in the 5th tha is going to be better than Holmes.

You cant.

Build through the draft? How have we drafted over the past decade? One miscalulation after another. Overpay for free agents? How much did we pay for Dockery and Langston Walker? Again, one miscalutaion after another. Let's not distort the record and fabricate bogus excuses. The Bills have been ignominiously bad not because of its location but because of its organizational ineptitude, starting with a goofball owner.

Wow.

Nine wins is a "lofty goal?" Talk about a loser mentality. Even with all of our injuries last year we got 7 wins. The switch to 3-4 defense is this crew's idea and they shouldn't get a bye for that decision. You play with what you got. A lofty goal would be to win the division or make the playoffs. No wonder this team is getting a loser image.

My point was very simple. The Bills have been historically bad not because of any inherent limitations due to location, weather or other manufactured liabilities. The Bills have been bad because of organizational ineptitude. The Bills over the long term are ranked near the bottom because of the atrocious decision making come out of OBD.
