LOST...Season 6

Wow, this show continues to suck you in and leaves you wanting more.

I will miss Lost when it ends.

I have no idea how they will explain the alternate universe with the 815 not crashing. With the island being underwater, it makes me wonder what has become of all the inhabitants of the island. We saw Desmond on the plane, but what has become of Ben, Rousseau, Richard etc. in this alternate world?

Where did Desmond disappear to when Jack came back to his seat?

The writers explained why Shannon was not on board 815, but why was Michael not on board?

I am in agreement with Sayid being Jacob. I do not think that Smokey possesses other people, but rather he takes the form of other people. Otherwise he would have taken over John's body after Ben had killed John. Remember how Smokey disappeared when Jacob's bodyguards went after him? Also Smokey took the form of Mr. Eko's brother, before he killed Eko. I still wonder why he killed Eko, was he a threat to him?

Can't wait to see what happens.

I agree with the lots of you, this was probably one of the best episodes since season 1. Definitely better than the premiere last year.

I do have a question/thought on the Sayid Jacob matter. If Jacob turned into Sayid, where is Sayid's dead body? Wouldn't the rules be similar to that of MIB looking like Locke even though Locke's dead body is there on the island? Sayid just woke up...

I was thinking the same thing and just feel the Sayid/Jacob connection is just too obvious, and this show has been anything but obvious from the beginning.

I did get a good chuckle when Jack approached the leader of the pyramid people and he flattened Jack in a second flat, yet they still continued to point guns at them the whole time. I really don't think they could have done anything against them, just found that a bit humorous.

I watched the 1 hour recap episode last night and they must have mentioned the Richard "appears" not to age a half dozen times. The "appears" mention has my mind wandering as much as the "chains" comment from Locke to Richard.

Someone mentioned a possible Richard flash back. I thought I read that all the flash backs and back stories are done, or maybe it was just the first episode. I would think we'd have to know more about Richard, Jacob, & MIB via flash backs. Anyone else read or hear anything like that?

Anyway, another episode with more questions than answers. But a lot to think about...

What about Ben's mother? As it was the vision of his mother (now the question is was this vision Jacob or Mib/Esau?) that caused young Ben to venture into the woods and find The Others. Another thing I forgot to bring up and probably it's obvious but with the ash circles it appear likely that Jacob was in the cabin and The Others were trying to protect him from Mib/Esau and likely why only Ben and Richard were the only ones that were supposed to meet with him.

I just watched it again and the the quote was, "I know who they are. They were on the first plane, Oceanic 815, along with me". As I originally stated, I think the obvious connection is to think 815 vs 316 but again I just wonder... I mean if Oceanic Flight 815 lands in LA like we see in 2004 the question still remains why are Lostaways are on the island in 2007 and why would Sawyer be ranting about things didn't work when it appears it did when we see him in the LA airport and of course this is what we'll find out in the next few weeks.

1) Or it could be that MiB had been in the cabin, unable to get out beyond the ash.

2) Yeah, if time had been altered, then there would have been no 815 crash to mention. And Cindy wouldn't be there.... Which makes me think back to one of Faraday's lines --- that light is really weird on the island... that it comes from different angles. I think the island acts as a kind of absorber of things that happen in all timelines. So, even if/when 815 doesn't crash, the graves will still be at the beach. It also absorbs the sunlight from different timelines.

The show just seems to have a different feel now, judging from the premiere eps. It's the difference b/w the action-oriented and the storytelling-oriented. But there's also our own input and excitement of watching. Since the Incident, it's been edge-of-your-seat & no time to relax... just watch things as they happen.

Good point in the second graph. Not sure there's a hard-and-fast rule about body possession vis-a-vis that the body must be a duplicate.

There will be a Richard-centric ep in 6.09 where we get info on his past in what has to be flashback form. I believe the 'no more flashbacks' thing was for the Lostaways proper --- not MiB, Jacob or Richard.

Had a new thought this morning... Re: the water in the Temple's spring going all brown and the Japanese guy and the hippie being absolutely surprised at this... Where else have we seen muddied water? Ben pulling the plug in the secret chamber within the secret chamber off of his Barracks house. That happened in the 2007 universe last season in "Dead is Dead."

What was the deal with the spring? I didn't catch it b/c it happened quickly. Did the Japanese guy's hand heal when he stuck it in the (brown) water?

Also, is ABC going to show repeats of the previous ep right before the new ones?

ON EDIT: To answer my own question, yes they are. We'll get "LA X: Part 2" next Tuesday before "What Kate Does."

That hippie was Sol Star in Deadwood. MIB was also in Deadwood.

In terms of the spring, I thought his hand did not heal and that is why they said something to the effect of 'this could be dangerous". My thought was the water being brwon signified some sort of change, but they were scared to mess with the instructions on how the spring worked by keeping Sayid for the full amount of the hr glass, even though it looked like he was better.

It didn't heal from what I remember either, I also one of the Templetons (I don't know what else to call them) mentioned that the spring wasn't clear so it only recently become brown. Perhaps another effect of the H-bomb?

Or perhaps it was Jacoby Jacobsons death that did it. At least that was my feeling.

Like I wrote, it was like a drainplug that Ben pulled out in the secret chamber, and the muddy water ran out down a hole. Where did it (and presumably, more) go? In an island fraught with connections, this would be my best guess.

In other thoughts, it's just a little disconcerting that in the ALT-world, people we've come to know will be totally changed without their island experience. They don't get the redemption the island afforded them:

- I suppose we had seen Kate be like that in flashbacks, so her beating up the marshal and commandeering the taxi with Claire inside didn't come as a surprise. But from her current path, she doesn't get to stop running and be a positive force.

- Sawyer was back to being the con man... seemed interested once he heard about Hurley winning the lotto. Covered for Kate in the elevator. All the personal growth, and being a better man is gone off-island.

- Jack & Locke is an interesting scenario. Their ALT experience in Jack potentially treating Locke might be the ALT of their acrimony on the island.

- Sayid off-island might find the love that eluded him on-island.

It will be interesting to see if and how they plan to make these characters likable again. Heck of a risk to totally throw out characters that had so much development time. Tgreg, you say it's heading for convergence.... I hope so.

Yes it almost definitely is. Why else would they show the scene with Jack looking at his hickey in the mirror? Foreshadowing is my guess. But to what? My guess is they are going to sacrifice quite a bit i.e. possible death for the whole crew in order to save the Island and as a reward the universe hits the reset button back in 1977 when Juliet hits the nuke therefore putting the island in the drink and letting the rest of the world going on with there business. The only reason the plane didn't crash in the new universe was because the Island had already been demolished leaving only remnants like "Pockets" as Capt. Norris said.

Mark my words these timelines will converge. Desmond will be all of their constant to help them fit into the new digs...

These are their paths had they not went down obviously, so you have to think of these characters as they would have been, not as how they have changed through the years on the island. Sawyer doesn't "go back" to being a con man, he continues to be a con man. Sayid probably will find his love again, as he did when he left the island last time, but this time years earlier and she probably doesn't get run over. But he has a dark past and I think the island helped him come to accept it and move on, it will be interesting to see his internal struggle. Kate continues to run from the law and is still a fugitive at large. Jack and Locke as "lost", they do not know there purpose and seem to be searching for a reason to live. It's interesting having these dual lives, not quite sure if I like it yet, but definitely different.

One thing I found pretty interesting is that while the smoke monster could not break the barrier of the ash, but it could cause an outside interference to knock someone or something out of the ash circle. Which got me thinking about the Pyramid people laying the ash after they found out that Jacob was dead. I am beginning to think it is more likely that Sayid is the MIB than Jacob. It would be interesting, if that were the case. Then he would actually be confined in the temple, due to the ash, and would need someone to break the ash to get out, maybe Ben?

I am also thinking about Jacob and MIB's agreement that they cannot kill one another. I am wondering if by Jacob touching certain lostie's, does that then make them off limits as well? That would really be interesting, especially if Sayid is indeed the MIB. That's all I can handle for now...

Was that a hickey? I thought it was some sort of wound. Didn't he dab at it with a paper towel?

Some good critical discussion:

EW | LOST: Your mythology-free review of the premiere

• Jack is now shouldering the greatest amount of guilt, shame, depression, and despair of any character in contemporary broadcast television. (I’m leaving myself a loophole in that phrasing for about five characters I could name in The Wire. And a few in The Shield.) For two hours last night, Jack went from one sucks-to-be-him scenario to another, and Fox really rose to the challenge, giving shadings not only in his line-readings, but in his glances, his winces, his careful movements. Along with the writers and producers, he’s created a character of tragic heroism; he’s like Job with vodka.

Jeff "Doc" Jensen's Lost Recap

Haven't perused this yet (it's quite long), but for the past few seasons, these recaps have been required reading for this thread.

Going back to an episode from a previous season. Hurley was sitting in a financial advisers office, and if I remember correctly he was the majority shareholder in a box company. Possibly the one Locke worked for. I always thought after that episode that Jack would operate on Locke, curing him and Hurley would turn the operations of the company to Locke, where he would walk in and totaly tear that little pimple of a boss he had a new one. This was probably not going to happen now because I think they are going in another direction, with hurley owning the Chicken franchise now.

Not sure if this has been discussed somewhere else in this thread (or the other seasons' threads), but I'm curious about the parallels between MiB/Jacob and Widmore/Ben. Both pairs appear to be playing lifelong games with unwritten rules and sometimes dire consequences. Anyone have any insight on these parallels?

Forgive me if this is obvious or already resolved... this show leaves me a bit... well... LOST. :(
