Bills press conference @2:30-Nix confirmed as new GM
PastaJoe replied to zdro22's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They're announcing that Bill Cowher is volunteering to be added to the no-fly list to Buffalo, following the lead of Mike Shanahan. Or at midnight tonight, Ralph's balls will drop to the floor to bring in the new year. -
It's a joke, and unfortunately he believes it. Turn on 570am on the radio in Syracuse, and it's a continuous stream of conservative talking heads, starting with a local conservative in the morning, then going to Beck, Limbaugh, a local conservative who votes only based on who's against abortion, Hannity, and Savage. Then add Cunningham on the weekends. Turn to 1390am and it's more of the same, starting with Washington Times conservatives in the morning, then Laura Ingram, another local conservative, Dennis Miller, Fred Thompson, and Phil Hendrie. Thankfully there's at least a couple of sports talk stations. But you can't even find a moderate talk show. I guess conservatives really like to have their pre-conceived viewpoints validated by radio talking heads. Regarding Limbaugh, I don't wish ill-health on anyone. His mistreatment of prescription drugs has probably taken its toll on his body, similar to what happened to Elvis. But I won't be suprised if he somehow turns his condition into a diatribe against health insurance reform.

Obama's "reaction" to Iran's civilian slayings.
PastaJoe replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The thing I find most interesting is that the very people who cry and whine that a government-run public insurance option that wouldn't have access to a bottomless pit of taxpayer funds will kill private insurance companies can't understand why liberals cry and whine that a voucher plan will kill public schools. When it's public sector, it's basically "Well, those lazy bastards deserve it," but when it's the private health insurers it's like "You're gonna !@#$ health care....and lose all the good doctors!" -
Great, let's trade for guys who can't win, can't start, or don't have any tread left, and put them behind one of the worst lines in the league. That's the kind of thinking that will keep the Bills drafting in the top 10 for years.

Governments REact After Terror Attempt on US Plane
PastaJoe replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Interesting responses from conservatives here and in Congress about the plane incident. Hypocritical, but interesting. I don't recall a similar response when months after 9/11, on Dec. 22, the shoe bomber Richard Reid's attempt to blow up a plane was thwarted by a group of passengers, after he had passed through all screenings. And this was at the height of scrutiny after 9/11. It was six days before Bush, then on vacation, made any public remarks about it. He didn't address reporters about it until December 28, after he had traveled from Camp David to his ranch in Texas. But the revisionists like to say Bush kept us safe and we weren't attacked again after 9/11. I don't recall any calls for people to be fired like are happening now. In fact, if you did challenge the administration, you were quickly labeled as anti-American. Come to think of it, no members of the cabinet were fired even after 9/11, the biggest and most successful terrorist attack against us in U.S. history. Now if you support the current administration, you're labeled anti-American. Incredible. -
Ralph is being nostalgic. Given that he was born in 1918, the next year will be spent highlighting events from his first year of life. January 15, 1919 – Boston Molasses Disaster: A large molasses tank in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, burst and a wave of molasses rushed through the streets, killing 21 people and injuring 150 others.

Obama's "reaction" to Iran's civilian slayings.
PastaJoe replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Not theory, historical facts. -
Bona Fide, QB East Northern State, Ht: 6-4 Wt: 233 Fide reminds me a lot of Donovan McNabb. He has a thick body and can move, but he'd rather run through you than around you. His greatest asset is his arm strength. He can make a lot of throws that most college players just don't make. He throws well on the run or in the pocket. Needs to touch up his footwork as he shows a tendency to throw off his back foot from time to time. http://recruiting.scout.com/

So because some coaches in the past mistreated their players more harshly, you think that justifies this player being mistreated? Maybe they should have waterboarded him to get him to tell the truth about if he really had a concussion. A reasonable person would have asked the medical staff what would be a proper place for the player to recover and if he needed supervision. You would think a college head coach would already know how to handle such a situation.

The Buffalo Bills are so bad, the living decendants of the Wild West Show star now only refer to him as William Cody. -
The Patriot Act comes up for renewal on 12/31......
PastaJoe replied to outsidethebox's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think that's what should and will happen. There will be some modifications but in general it will be renewed. But this type of legislation should never be made permanent, it should be up for review and revision every few years. -
Obama's "reaction" to Iran's civilian slayings.
PastaJoe replied to BLZFAN4LIFE's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think Ghandi would have disagreed, given that India is now the world's largest democracy. And I don't recall citizens taking to the streets with guns in Eastern Europe in the 80s. In the past century, those groups that took up arms against their gov't ended up just replacing one form of oppression with another, as in Cuba and China. I doubt those in America who stockpile weapons because they're afraid of this "socialist" president would be very tolerant of those that differ with their views if they were in power. And they wouldn't leave it up to the voters to decide. The 1984 scenario. -
It's a good thing one of them got flexed. I figured if they both played at 1pm, the Jets would bump the Bills from Syracuse TV. It's better that it's not the Bills. Imagine the arrests of the drunks outside the stadium at nighttime after Drew Willy leads the Colts to a victory.

Dow drops 500 points at open 2/25/09
PastaJoe replied to Helmet_hair's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well given the problems of the past few years, that's relatively good news that the unemployment numbers will be declining. The unemployment rate under Reagan went from 7.6% to 9.7-9.8% in the summer after his inaugural, and remained at that level for two years. And he wasn't faced with the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, the collapse of the automobile industry, or inherit two wars. -

I've never said that. Just that it didn't justify Iraq. -
Hooray for America...
PastaJoe replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There are more people now than during the election who identify themselves as independents. The majority of the increase is from Republicans who since the election now identify themselves as independents because they think the Republican party is too moderate. The percentage of people who now identify themselves as Republicans in polls is in the 20s. These new post-election independents would never have voted for Obama. Independent no longer means they're all moderate. How hard is that to understand? -
I think alot of people who have negative views of gays don't know any personally or haven't taken the time to get to know them. I used to have the typical religious view regarding them, but then I actually talked to some and got to know their issues, and my views changed. I don't have to like what they do, but I have learned to be tolerant. To each his own.

PastaJoe replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah, it's "wild" to say the radical right's complaining means moderation is winning the day. I love how all the righties keep pointing to independents, when over the past year the number of people who identify themselves as independents has risen because they're former Republicans who think the party is too moderate for them. Independent no longer means "willing to consider either party". These Republipendents might vote for a Republican, but would rarely consider a Democrat. -

The more the radical right complains, the more confident I am that we made the right decision. -
I'd stick with Johnson, he's going for the rushing title and perhaps 2000 yards, so he'll get alot of touches.
-
I'd play Jackson for the yardage as he'll get alot of touches, and Bradshaw since they like to use him near the goalline. And I would play Wayne, as the Colts will still try to win and remain undefeated.

If the Colts are 15-0, will NBC flex the Bills game?
PastaJoe replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL schedule doesn't show any week 17 Sunday night game. All the games are at 1pm or 4:15pm. Is that because there isn't one, or that it's TBD? -
Assuming they're not addressed in FA, the first 3 picks should be dedicated to 3 of these priority positions with the best player available: QB, OT, DT, LB.
-
Assuming he's able to finish the game without an injury (not a given with their line): ) How many TD's ...... 0 TD 2) How many INT's...... 2 INT 3) How many yards..... 145 YARDS 4) Comp. %................ 49% (16 of 33) 5) QB rating................ Don't know how that's computed 6) Sacks..................... 3 Most of the yardage will be from short passes to the RBs. They'll run the ball until they get too far behind and are forced to pass long. I never said he was good, but we know what the other guys can do, so let's see what he can do so we know what we have for next season.
