GOP purges yet another moderate
PastaJoe replied to Bishop Hedd's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Ha! This guy makes typical political generalizations without any specifics. Most people agree that Medicare and SS need reform, but the devil's in the details. Is Rubio for or against raising the eligibility age, and for or against reducing payouts to seniors? He also waffled on the AZ immigration law. "That's not really something Americans are comfortable with, the notion of a police state," Rubio said of the Arizona bill. "But I don't want to underestimate the level of frustration from a law enforcement aspect that exists in Arizona. You have serious violence crossing the border, and they're fed up. Particularly with federal inaction." He did not say outright whether he opposes or supports the bill. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/...bid=2AR_md8eIvF He won't take a stand because it will either upset his Hispanic or Tea Party supporters. As far as him beating Crist easily, from the last poll April 15... Marco Rubio has opened up an elephant-sized 56 - 33 percent lead over Gov. Charlie Crist in Florida's U.S. Senate Republican primary, but in a three-way general election with Rubio on the GOP line, Crist as an independent and Democratic U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, Crist has a razor- thin edge, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. If Crist were to file as an independent for the general election, he would get 32 percent of the vote, compared to Rubio's 30 percent and Meek's 24 percent. http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1297.xml?ReleaseID=1445 -
Ten days now, since the off-shore rig fire
PastaJoe replied to stuckincincy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Given that 30% of our oil comes from the Gulf Coast offshore rigs, I doubt there will be any significant change in policy. Sure, BP is responsible for paying for the clean-up, and they previously documented that they could handle even a greater sized accident, but when drilling a mile below the surface, it's going to be an imperfect science. Just like mining has been for as long as it's been done. Hopefully the end result will be more scrutiny on the failsafe systems and ability to minimize damage in the future. Unfortunately there's not much we currently have available to contain an oil spill of this size in bad weather. As long as the profit and economic benefit outweigh the costs, offshore drilling will continue. -
Deputy approached by five suspects before being shot

Nice job trying to equate drug smugglers with the majority of immigrants who just want to make a better life for their family. If there wasn't a demand for marijuana from legal American citizens, then there wouldn't be drug smuggling. Anybody who smokes it is the root cause of the problem. -
Because "the left" are not Americans.

Illegal immigrants living in AZ
PastaJoe replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
So all illegal aliens are parasites? They don't want to work and be contributing members to the U.S.? Do you agree with Duncan Hunter that the U.S. born children of illegal aliens should be deported? I didn't hear any practical answers to my questions, just more complaints. -

I take it the side you would have rooted for lost the Civil War and the supremacy of states rights. We could have had comprehensive immigration reform a couple years ago, but most of the Republicans in Congress wouldn't support Bush's proposal that had bipartisan support from Democrats and moderate Republicans like McCain, who's now changed his tune because he's being challenged by the right wing. Yet now they say that Arizona is taking action because Washington hasn't. And they even have the gall to then say that now is not the time for immigration reform. Friggin hypocrites. If not now, when? I'd like to know what those who say the solution is to just close the border, round up all the illegals, and throw them out, propose to do with all the children of illegals who were born in the U.S. and therefore are American citizens? How are you going to round up the millions of illegals? Are you willing to pay more for food and services because Americans will have to take over the jobs the illegals currently do, and won't do it for the money the illegals get paid? And are you willing to pay to have a soldier or guardsman every 300 feet across the border to make sure nobody sneaks in? I hear the complaints, but not the practical solutions. -

What's even funnier is that you don't acknowledge that the politicians who I have voted for don't support the AZ law, but don't let facts get in the way of your generalizations. Where's all the libertarians protesting this policy? Too busy at the Tea-Party protests attacking Obama? I fear for your children too...and it has nothing to do with the gov't. -

According to Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.), "trained professionals" can identify undocumented workers just by looking at their clothes. "They will look at the kind of dress you wear, there is different type of attire, there is different type of -- right down to the shoes, right down to the clothes." http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/archives...their-shoes.php Funny how the same people who are quick to call Obama a socialist and use images of Hitler to characterize his policies, support the type of policies that were used by police in Germany and the Soviet Union. -

Papers please. Then barcode tattoos. Then tracking chip implants. First they came for the Hispanics and I did nothing... -
Round 1, Pick #9: CJ Spiller RB Clemson
PastaJoe replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe they picked him with the intent on trading him, perhaps to Seattle who has another 1st round pick, but they couldn't complete the deal in time. Or they're positioning themselves to tank this year so they have a top 3 pick next year when they'll pick a QB. -

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and actually better that with 6-10.

Sabres have called up some muscle... BOSTON -- The Sabres, with the status of forwards Matt Ellis and Thomas Vanek in doubt, have recalled Cody McCormick. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound forward was signed last summer for organizational depth, and he should get his first chance to show why Wednesday in Game Four against Boston. McCormick had 17 goals and 29 points with 168 penalty minutes in 66 games with Portland this season. McCormick had no points, nine PIMs and nine shots in the Pirates' first three postseason games against Manchester. The 27-year-old has four games of NHL playoff experience, skating with Colorado in 2008. He had one assist and seven penalty minutes.

Did they also vote for and support white presidents in the past?
-
Your logic would have the Bills never picking a QB. There is no guarantee, but better to take a chance than get someone who you already know is mediocre. I don't want a "stop gap". I'd rather bite the bullet with a couple bad seasons while a young QB matures, get a couple more high picks to build around him, and then have a contender, ala Troy Aikman and the Cowboys.

I gave your posts an honest look. Please keep posting. We need more people like you out front as the face of the conservative / Tea Party movement.

So you want liberals to mock you, so you get stronger like the Hulk.

We all know the reason is because D.C. has a Democratic voting majority. Which is why when the issue is debated in Congress, the Republicans demand that additional districts be created in Utah so there is no change in the balance of power in Congress. If you're sincere, when Republicans are in the majority, they could cut off futher funding and let the programs die on the vine. But they know it would be political suicide to take away the largest entitlement programs from the elderly voters. So they talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. And if the Tea Party is sincere, they would advocate just such a policy from the candidates they support.

It was an astroid that was blown up by nukes. That's why the world leaders were here last week, it was a cover to inform them all that the U.S. and Russia had a joint effort to blow it up. And the president's initiative to land on an astroid is really because there are more coming, and it will take landing on them to plant nukes to change their trajectory. The Mayans forsaw this occurring in 2012.

I'd trade Lynch for BETTY White. At least she'd have a good attitude and be a positive influence.

Although I disagreed with Reagan's philosophy and policies, he had a resume of writings and speeches where he laid out a detailed view of how gov't should work and handle particular issues. He thought about what he said, and didn't just read a script based on the views of his speechwriters. Palin is just a series of bumper sticker phrases with no thought given to the details. That may work with the Tea Party crowd, but I have confidence that she would wither under the scrutiny of a presidential election and the general public, who are busy living their lives and not paying attention to the details right now. Thus I hope she is the Republican nominee. But I expect the Republicans will come to their senses and select a more mainstream candidate.
