I'll check 'em out, thanks for the recommendation.

The thing that bothers me is his attitude. He plays a physical game which I like and sometimes guys get caught up in the moment and go too far. I can live with that. But Harrison is happy to hurt people. He likes doing it and thinks he hasn't really injured the player if they're just "taking a little nap." I'm not sure how a player can have this attitude/PoV in 2010 when everybody knows how serious concussions are but I'd be happy if all players with this attitude retired so guys who are out there just trying to help their team win while not demolishing another player's career can get the accolades they deserve. And btw, WTF is up with the player's union? Why is it that they only protect the interests of their member's wallets and not their health?

When I read the thread title my first thought was Dream Theater as well. It might have something to do with me listening to Metropolis pt. 2 right now but nonetheless, they're an amazing band and one of my favs. I'll give a +1 to Clutch as well. Saw them in concert with The Sword (another under-appreciated band) and both were fantastic - great show. I have to give a vote for Jane's Addiction as well - not the new crap they released a few years ago but their stuff before they broke up and reformed. Not many albums better than Nothing's Shocking and Ritual del lo Habitual in my book.

Wish we would do what the Raiders are doing

Not to mention that INTs are almost always caused by pressuring the QB into mistakes and the Bill don't get pressure on the QB. -

Teams don't have to pass on the Bills D - they can run the ball at will. When teams can run all over a D there is no need to throw the ball. The Bills have the fewest passing attempts against them per game in the NFL so naturally they're not going to have allowed that many yards. The REAL statistic here is average per pass attempt and the Bills are 5th worst in the league there. I suppose that's better than their rushing D which is allowing 4.8 yards per rush - 4th worst in the league. Bottom line is the Bills D is horrendous at both stopping the run and pass - really, it's up to the opposing offense to decide just how they want to move the ball because no matter what they choose they'll likely be successful. -

I will never wish the Bills to do what the Raiders are doing. The Raiders are the one franchise that makes the Bills look like they're well run. -
Bills have 1st crack at Merriman.
MDH replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What exactly to they lose by brining him in and seeing what he's got left this year? If there's nothing left in the tank you let him go. It's not like the team is going anywhere this year, it's strictly a talent evaluation year and Merriman is a guy who could be evaluated and if he's healthy could be a huge payoff for the Bills. If not, release him and move on. -
Never going to happen as it's not hindsight - many fans were calling for those selections before the draft and the Bills went off the path and blew the pick. Fans aren't likely to let that slide until the team turns it around. It's a sad sad franchise that can be out-drafted by a fan with a subscription to ESPN insider.

Of your list - 12 players were drafted in the top 3 rounds (what most people would consider a "high" pick). Of those 12 players 5 of them are not playing for the team that drafted them. So while I agree the quality QBs are generally taken in the first few rounds there are other ways of obtaining those QBs than drafting them yourself.
-
Other guy's draft picks aren't untouchable. Let's see what happens when it's this regimes high round miss.

And then the next GM will come in and do the same - likely drafting another 1st round RB because the one currently on the roster was another guy's pick. And the cycle continues...

Who would you start on your fantasy team?
MDH replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have Jackson on my team and he's right where he belongs at this point - on the bench. Anybody thinking of starting either of these guys right now must be in contention for last place in their league. -
Jackson will play for the Bills - and be productive - for just as long as Lynch would have. Do you really think Lynch was going to re-sign with the Bills after his contract is up next year? Lynch wants to be a starter, not sit on the bench behind a better back.
-
You simply have a different definition of being a fan than I do. I refuse to blindly follow anybody or anything. Being a fan doesn't mean supporting every decision that the team makes anymore than being a good citizen means blindly supporting every action one's country makes. In fact, it's just the opposite, it's our job to watch closely and hold the powers that be accountable for their decisions - be they right or wrong.
-
Name a team that can produce a 3rd quality back just in case one of their top 2 go down? You have two good backs for this reason, you don't need three.
-
Don't forget his hands as well. Jackson is better at pretty much everything, I have no clue how anybody could claim Lynch is the superior back.
-
41 should be the over/under on how many points the Bills D will allow.
-
Oh, no doubt, you own't hear me saying I liked the Spiller pick - I didn't. I almost puked when I heard it on draft night. That being said, given that the Bills have already drafted him and aren't going to move Spiller this is the next best option Imo. It would have been nice if they could have gotten more for Lynch but the market bears out the worth of a player and I'd rather have something than nothing.
-
unfortunately when evaluating THIS trade those aren't the options to consider. It's would you rather have: Jackson & Spiller splitting time with Lynch languishing on the bench OR Jackson & Spiller splitting time with a 4th round pick (and 5th or 6th round pick) in next year's draft?
-
Even worse is that the Bills have spent 3 1st round picks on RBs in the past 8 years. And for all that drafting of 1st round running backs the starter next week is Fred Jackson, an undrafted FA. Had the Bills never drafted a RB with any of those picks the Bills starter next week would like be...Fred Jackson. This is a blueprint on how to build a loser. That being said I'm not upset with this trade, just the Bill penchant for needing to draft 1st round RBs in the first place.
-
I'm with you on most everything you say except this. While it would have been better to not draft Spiller at all and just go with Lynch and Jackson for the foreseeable future, trading Lynch doesn't compound the problem. The Bills already have a viable RB on the roster in Jackson - better than Lynch Imo. So it's not like the Bills are going with an unknown. Since the Bills have a better option in Jackson and a shiny new toy in Spiller Lynch's value to the team was nil (unless Jackson gets injured.) A 4th round pick, on the other hand, has value to the team (albeit future value.)
-
Problem is spending a top 10 pick on that RB. RBs are a dime a dozen and can be gotten in middle rounds or traded for for 4th round picks... Not to mention it's not a need that was immediate. RBs are the quickest to make the transition to the NFL, a RB could have been drafted a few years from now while another position player got his NFL feet under him in the meantime.

Everyone got what they wanted in trading Lynch...
MDH replied to Booger's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. The problem people are having is misplaced. They keep saying, "we only got a 4th for a former 1st round pick." They should be pissed off that the Bills organization keeps wasting 1st round picks on RBs. They should have never taken McGahee, never taken Lynch and never taken Spiller. What would the Bills backfield look like next week if they hadn't made these picks? Fred Jackson would be the starter - just like he's going to be anyway. In addition the Bills would have 3 other players they took in the 1st round (granted, they likely would have blown those picks in other ways had they not drafted RBs, but nonetheless...) -

True - unfortunately for your analogy though Lynch isn't a 2007 Ferrari. More like a 2007 Ford Taurus. Dependable and does the job but doesn't get anybody excited or win any races. So we traded a 2007 Taurus for the ability to pick up another, newer model, Taurus next year.
