  1. That's true of every team's front office. Are you suggesting that no teams ever make mistakes or that fans can't ever be unhappy with a pick? I'm assuming we should all just nod our heads at every single pick (even the Raiders) and say, "that must be a good pick because their front office knows more than me."
  2. Brees matured into a top tier QB before he left SD.
  3. Not so. You'd love to draft a top 1-3 guy at his position when selecting in the top 10 but it doesn't have to happen for the draft pick to significantly help your team. If you get a guy who is top 10-15 at his position at certain positions - QB, OT, DE, DT - that's good enough to help your team improve significantly. Those are positions where if you are weak you will be totally exposed and a guy who's very good - but not great, is almost a must. When you start looking at positions like RB & S - spots that have traditionally been easy to pick up quality guys in later rounds then it devalues drafting those positions early in round 1 UNLESS the guy is an all time talent. Someone who is going to be a total game changer - a perennial pro bowler. Spiller has to be that type of player for this pick to be justified. I said the same thing when Dante Whitner was drafted and got blasted by the board then. There are certain positions I just don't favor drafting at the top of the draft unless your team has just about all the other pieces in place already. If a team has a bunch of holes I just don't think you can justify taking a RB in the top 10. It's just my opinion - I hope to hell Spiller ends up being the best back in the league and the pick works out but I have my doubts. If he ends up being good but not great it's a wasted pick.
  4. Thankfully it was the Steve Young show. He was the only one on set who would actually criticize picks - everybody else would pretty much just compliment every pick as if they had HoF potential. Other than Young I found ESPN's show to be extremely watered down. If I could stand listening to Faulk or Sanders I'd watch NFL Network - but I can't so I'll tune into ESPN again tonight.
  5. Anthony Davis wasn't a reach at 9. The D could have used a player like Paul-Pierre. A little raw to be sure but this D needs playmakers and he fits that bill. And does Spiller really have no weaknesses? I haven't seen Clemson much in the past few years but everything I've seen of the guy shows him running wide on just about every play. Can he run between the tackles is my question? If he can't he's going to struggle in the NFL. Imo it's relatively easy to find quality running backs in the NFL - not so easy to find quality OT or DE. Spiller has to be REALLY special to make this pick worthwhile.
  6. 5:30 minutes of highlights and there are exactly 3 runs between the tackles (and one of those was a draw.) If you can't run between tackles and have to rely on speed to hit the corner you will not have success in the NFL - ask Reggie Bush.
  7. There was no "reaching" necessary. The Bills could have selected OT, DT, DE or QB and not "reached" given the talent on the board. The Bills just used their first round pick at once of the few spots that didn't need to be addressed - at least not that early. Fred Jackson might have been the best player on the team last year and they draft a top 10 guy to replace him. Let's tread some more water - been doing it for 10 years now, I guess a few more years won't matter much.
  8. Because they have a legitimate alternative at QB whereas the Bills don't. I wouldn't mind McNabb but the Bills better not overpay for his services. This franchise can't afford to be giving up too many draft picks. Also, your post makes it seem like QBs who move to other teams will have no success. I mean, why did their teams let them go if they still have good years? Except Kurt Warner, Brett Favre & Drew Brees all say otherwise...
  9. If the Bills do end up going to a 3-4 I think we can expect Maybin to be moved to LB where his size would be just right. Let's hope he's smart enough to be able to handle making the transition.
  10. Yeah, because Wilson has recently shown he deserves the benefit of the doubt. You know, since he routinely puts a winner on the field these days...
  11. I'm perfectly happy with Jackson being the man and the Bills using a low draft pick or brining in a lower tier FA to fill the #2 RB spot. Lynch's production just isn't worth the hassle.
  12. Yeah, I wish they'd go up there and say they want guys who can't teach football...
  13. You can't figure out how changing the word effects the meaning of the sentence?
  14. But he's special and needs his own thread to express every opinion!
  15. Lynch isn't good trade bait. Do you really think that all the talent evaluators in the league don't know what Bills fans know? It will take draft picks to get McNabb - I don't see anybody taking Lynch off our hands. An average back for 1st round money usually isn't what teams are looking for.
  16. I haven't seen Big Fan but it's misleading to say it's "done" by the same guy who "did" "The Wrestler." "The Wrestler" was directed by Darren Aronofsky (who also wrote and directed "The Fountain", "Requiem for a Dream" and "Pi" - all excellent films.) Big Fan was written and directed by the same guy who wrote "The Wrestler." Might be a small quibble for most but it's a big difference to me. Anyway, I'll check out Big Fan when I get a chance - sounds pretty funny. And yeah, I also love streaming netflix though I barely have time to keep up with stuff I DVR and rent on Blu Ray as it is.
  17. Thought this deserved a bump. Nobody would turn down the Vols huh? Also, nice job editing the original post to try and save some face. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4825513
  18. Apparently their #1 choice is Texas D Coord Will Muschamp. Would you be happy with having a college D coordinator making the move up to Bills HC? I wouldn't.
  19. Led the league in run D and run O. Have a rookie QB. Made it to the second round of playoffs. That team is not a fraud. They're solid everywhere but QB and with some experience that will likely be solid in another few years. That being said, SD will beat them soundly.
  20. I don't think it's a bad move at all to reject the Bills HC position. Look at our last few hires. Neither Gregg Williams or Mike Mularkey have gotten a shot elsewhere. Generally speaking, if you fail at your first gig you likely won't get another. This isn't always the case but more often than not it is. Given this it's very important that a "hot" coordinator pick a good situation. Can anybody honestly say the Bills are a good situation? Look at our recent history. 10 years of losing with 3 HCs thrown in the scrap heap. Why would a young coordinator want this to be his first HC gig only to be the 4th HC thrown in the scrap heap never to be given another chance again?
  21. Maybe RW is going to announce that he is going to be euthanized this year so he can transfer ownership with no tax. Nobody would question his loyalty to the Buffalo area any longer after that!
  22. People kill me. The Bills can't hire a coordinator for a HC because they've had failures in the past. They can't trade for a young QB because we've had failures in the past. These past failures have no bearing on future moves - when are people going to realize this? The failure of the Bills wasn't in bringing in a coordinator to be the HC it was brining in Williams and Mularky. Had they brought in John Fox or Marvin Lewis things might have been different. The problem wasn't trading for a young QB it was trading for RJ. Ask San Fran if they liked trading for Steve Young or if GB liked their trade for Brett Favre? Kolb might not end up being a good QB, there are no guarantees. But the "logic" behind someone not wanting him being "brining in a guy with 2 starts reminds me of RJ" just doesn't fly. Point to something in Kolb's game that makes you not want him, but please give a better argument than "too risky." As if giving up a 2nd round pick (or perhaps a 1st) for a guy who's been in the league a few years is somehow more risky than simply using the pick on an unproven college player with absolutely no NFL experience...
  23. So the only way you suggest addressing the QB position is with a proven vet. No draft picks or young guys who have been in the league a few years? Because the only guys who aren't risky are the vets - and even THEY are risky. You never know how they'll respond in a new offensive system... Personally, I'd love to get hold of Kolb. Much rather have a young guy that another team has groomed for us than have a few years of good QB play from McNabb. Sure there is risk but the payoff is huge.
  24. While all those things are true there has to be very good players at those positions available when the Bills draft. You don't just draft for need, you draft the best player possible at a position of need. The surest way to miss on players in the draft is to say "we need a QB here" and draft a QB at that spot no matter what. The Bills are in desperate need of LBs and if Rolando is on the board when the Bills pick and there's nobody higher on the Bills' board at the other spots you grab him.
  25. Let's bring in Cable as our HC. After all he has HC experience and that's obviously the most important factor...
