YE OLE's official Jason Campbell Poll
Steely Dan replied to Cotton Fitzsimmons's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was originally going to say a fifth or lower but you guys convinced me the Bills don't need him and would be better off taking a QB in the draft. -
Well the PFW Draft Preview lists him as a NT, TSN Draft 2010 lists him as a 3-4 NT or DE, the other books I have don't say or list him as a DE. The Pro Football Draft Guide 2010 says he plays to high to handle the nose. I've seen reports of him being 6'4" to 6'6" which is taller than most NT's. The Best seem to be in the 6'2" to 6'3" range. I think much taller than that can cause problems with leverage. 6'6" lends itself far more to being a DE. I never really noticed that a couple of other guides list him as a DE.

Well I guess the latest media frenzy surrounds cheating husbands. You forgot that he was blinded by the light and thought she's the one. He felt trapped* in his marriage and thought he'd tell his mistress that he did it for you. I guess this affair moves him one step up and two steps back. I guess this isn't turning out to be a tunnel of love for him. *Yes I know Jimmy Cliff wrote Trapped.

This is tough for me because my dad is a Duke graduate and Butler beat SU and if they win then they will have lost to the best team in this tourny. I'm going with Duke on both questions because the fact that Butler made the finals is a pretty good result from SU's defeat. If in the game after SU's had been a been blowout by the other team then SU would have been more embarrassed. JMO

I thought this might be helpful to the casual draftnik: Charles Alexander - LSU - 6'3" 300 Terrance Cody - Alabama - 6'3" 354 Brandon Deadrick - Alabama - 6'4" 296 (Also identified as a DLE) Travis Ivey - Maryland - 6'4" 341 Linval Joseph - East Carolina - 6'4" 328 Abe Koroma - Western Illinois - 6'3" 315 Jeff Owens - Georgia - 6'1" 304 (Also listed at 3T) Ndamukong Suh - Nebraska - 6'4" 307 (Also listed as DLE) Cam Thomas - North Carolina - 6'4" 330 Torrell Troup - Central Florida - 6'3" 314 Kade Weston - Georgia - 6'5" 317 Dan Williams - Tennessee - 6'2" 327 Al Woods - LSU - 6'3" 309

While Nix & Co. enjoy Easter weekend, Skins steal McNabb
Steely Dan replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does anyone seriously think that this isn't about the McNabb trade? -
This Mike Alstott? A 6-time Pro Bowler, 4-time All-Pro and Super Bowl XXXVII champion, Mike Alstott was one of the toughest NFL big men to play the game. During the peak of his career, he was known to shrug off tackles or run over defenders, subsequently earning the nickname "The A-Train". Playing the fullback position, Mike Alstott was unique, because he could be relied upon to carry the ball for a touchdown on a regular basis, provide critical blocking for other running backs or catch passes out of the backfield. As such, he leads the Bucs' in total touchdowns with 71 and rushing touchdowns with 58. Regarded by many to be the NFL's best power runner, he ran for 5,088 yards to become the Bucs' second all-time leading rusher, and with 432 points, the Bucs' third all-time scorer. During the 2003 season, Alstott suffered a season-ending neck injury which required a surgical operation. The injury ultimately became career-ending when, in 2007, Alstott was advised by his neurosurgeon not to continue his professional career. Alstott, retired in the early part 2008, ending an outstanding career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What he said.

This nothing new. If the team picking #1 makes a bad choice they are in cap hell for years (unless they use C2C). If the SB team makes a bad pick then they are out a first round draft pick and not a contract that will hamstring them forever. This is why so few trades up to the top ten are made. JJ said a couple of years ago that he wouldn't trade into the top 10. A rookie sal. cap has to be instituted in order for the league to continue to prosper. JMO

Bills offered McNabb an extension
Steely Dan replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think McNabb insisted on Washington so he could stick it to the man twice every year. I don't blame him. I'm glad the Bills didn't get him. They have bigger fish to fry right now. A stop gap QB isn't the most dire need, IMO. -
There are 5 positions on the offensive line
Steely Dan replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, Watkins is added! I'm willing to put Bell's problems on his health last year. If the new S&C coaches can get him healthy for a full season he may begin to show the promise I think he has, at least I hope so. -
There are 5 positions on the offensive line
Steely Dan replied to Rob's House's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
These are the guys that, IMO, can be solid starters or better, if not now then soon. 77 Bell, Demetrius OL 6-5 307 25 2 Northwestern State University 73 Chambers, Kirk OL 6-7 315 31 6 Stanford 61 Gaddis, Christian OL 6-1 300 25 2 Villanova Green, Cornell OL 6-6 315 33 12 Central Florida 63 Hangartner, Geoff OL 6-5 301 27 6 Texas A&M 74 Hennessey, Nick OL 6-5 291 23 R Colgate 67 Levitre, Andy OL 6-2 305 23 2 Oregon State 69 Meredith, Jamon OL 6-5 304 23 2 South Carolina 76 Ramsey, Andre OL 6-5 322 22 2 Ball State 66 Watkins, Jason OL 6-6 325 24 1 Florida 70 Wood, Eric OL 6-4 315 24 2 Louisville It looks like LT DB, LG AL, C GH, RG EW, RT CG. DB needs to be upgraded and if the Bills can get a starting LT out of the draft they could swing DB to the right side and if he can stay healthy might start to shine or at least provide decent depth at both T positions. GH is a liability where he is right now but I don't think they can move Wood to C yet due to his injury. I was gonna try to refute your argument about the quality of OL but looking at it closely, you're just about right. -
I'm assuming this only refers to cigarettes, and not poll smoking or MJ. MJ I've done the other two, never.

Nolan Nawrocki (ProFootballWeekly.com)
Steely Dan replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like Al Davis taking McFadden. I spoke to Marv Levy a few years ago and he said that drafting the best player available means that you take the best guy unless it's close and another player fills a need. I think the biggest discrepancy between players probably comes in the third and fourth rounds. Guys who are labeled late first rounders and early second rounders have fallen for one reason or another that has nothing to do with talent. (Teams passing them up due to needs, I'd think, as well as how teams have prospects graded) Finally the discrepancy between one guy and all the rest is too big to pass up. Here are the grades from Nawrocki's 2010 draft preview for the best player at each position. QB - Sam Bradford - 7.00 RB - CJ Spiller - 6.85 FB - Tony Gerhart - 5.50 WR - Dez Bryant - 6.70 TE - Jermaine Gresham - 6.30 OT - Russell Okung - 6.70 G - Mike Iupati - 6.30 C - Maurice Pouncey 6.25 DT - Gerald McCoy - 7.50 DE - Derrick Morgan - 6.55 OLB - Sergio Kindle - 6.45 ILB - Rolando McClain - 6.35 FS - Eric Berry - 6.60 SS - TJ Ward - 5.50 CB - Joe Haden - 6.05 K - Leigh Tiffen - 5.10 P - Matt Dodge - 5.23 Let's assume all the teams draft boards are the same as Nawrocki's. Nawrocki's scoring system goes like this; 9.00 Once in a lifetime player 8.0-8.99 Perennial Pro Bowler 7.5-7.99 Future All Pro 7.0-7.49 Should become a Pro Bowl caliber player. 6.5-6.99 A first rounder that should have a good chance of making the Pro Bowl 6.0-6.49 Should become a quality NFL player 5.5-5.99 Has a chance to become a quality NFL player and should contribute readily. 5.10-5.49 Has better than average chance to make NFL roster It goes lower but it's not necessary to go on. Since Nawrocki's system has a range of numbers for each definition it can be broken down like this; Gerald McCoy - 7.50 - Future All Pro. Sam Bradford - 7.00 - Should become a Pro Bowl caliber player. CJ Spiller - 6.85 - A first rounder that should have a good chance of making the Pro Bowl. Dez Bryant - 6.70 A first rounder that should have a good chance of making the Pro Bowl. Russell Okung - 6.70 -A first rounder that should have a good chance of making the Pro Bowl. Eric Berry - 6.60 - A first rounder that should have a good chance of making the Pro Bowl. Derrick Morgan - 6.55 - A first rounder that should have a good chance of making the Pro Bowl. Sergio Kindle - 6.45 - Should become a quality NFL player. Rolando McClain - 6.35 - Should become a quality NFL player. Jermaine Gresham - 6.30 - Should become a quality NFL player. Mike Iupati - 6.30 Should become a quality NFL player. Maurice Pouncey - 6.25 - Should become a quality NFL player. Joe Haden - 6.05 - Should become quality NFL player. Tony Gerhart - 5.50 - Has a chance to become a quality NFL player and should contribute readily. TJ Ward - 5.50 - Has a chance to become a quality NFL player and should contribute readily. Matt Dodge - 5.23 - Has better than average chance to make NFL roster Leigh Tiffen - 5.10 - Has better than average chance to make NFL roster IMO, as long as the player fits under the same definition it's a no brainer to go for a position of need. Some argument can be made that the scRams should take Gerald McCoy over Sam Bradford but franchise QB's are a lot harder to find and so not taking the best player makes more sense. CJ Spiller, Dez Bryant, Russell Okung, Eric Berry and Derrick Morgan are all in the same boat. So if all of those players fall to Buffalo they can take anyone of them and, IMO, still get the best player on the board and pick the position of greatest need. -
How many guys has Kelly drafted? How many times has he sat in the stands at a college game watching the players and taking notes? How many times has he spoken to a HC about a guy? The scout is right but he's making a mountain out of a mole hill. Kelly didn't say anything beyond what I feel is an opinion. I don't see a whole lot of damage here, if any. I like his role in Buffalo. He's a good guy who wants to keep the team in Buffalo.

Steely Dan replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nawrocki's Pro Football Weekly Draft Preview (not to be confused with the draft guide) is the best reasonably priced draft book, IMO. Thanks for the links. I'll re-tailor my mock to match his round projections. It's interesting that in the Preview he has Capers listed as a 2nd to third round pick but in his internet breakdown he has Capers as late third round almost fourth. -
the pistol offense
Steely Dan replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Michael Vick – Eagles, Stephen McGee – Cowboys, Denise Dixon (he's a guy it's Dennis) – Steelers ,Josh Johnson (Josh Freeman) – Bucs, Matt Flynn – Packers, Tyler Thigpen – Dolphins, Jeff Rowe – Patriots, John Parker Wilson – Falcons, Troy Smith – Ravens, John David Booty – Titians Titans, Chase Daniels – Saints, Bret Basanez – Bears, Bret Ratliff – Browns, Alex Smith – 49er’s, Tavares Jackson – Vikings. This is as far as I've gotten into the piece so far and it's gonna be hard to take this seriously. Slight misspellings are even bad in published works but getting somebodies name completely wrong? (Josh Johnson, Denise) I'm not real familiar with this scheme so here's something I found that briefly describes it; Step 1 Line the quarterback up three to four yards behind the center. The alignment of the quarterback is usually directly under center or seven yards back in the shotgun. This alignment is a compromise between the two. Step 2 Place the single running back in the offense about three to four yards directly behind the quarterback. This blocks the view of the running back for the defense and makes it tougher to discern which direction the running back is going. Step 3 Utilize the play-action motion to confuse the defense. Because of the alignment mentioned in Step 1 and 2 the play-action pass is extremely effective and is a staple of the pistol offense. The quarterback and running back are far enough off the line of scrimmage that the defense cannot tell if any play is a run or pass. Step 4 Run the "eleven" personnel package for most of the game. The pistol offense plays almost exclusively in the "eleven" personnel grouping which is one quarterback, a running back, one tight end and three receivers. Step 5 Use different formations to confuse the defense. Even though the pistol offense uses only one personnel package, the typical pistol offense has thirty different formations that you can run out of this single personnel grouping. That's really interesting. This offense seems made for a no huddle or hurry up system because the personnel doesn't seem to change. Here's another writeup. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog...rn=ncaaf,176983 It's written by a guy named Chris Brown but I don't think it's the Bills reporter. -
What he said! Torrell Troup is the guy I like. The knock on him is that he's a marginal pass rusher. However, from what I've read about all of the NT's in the draft it seems none of them are standout pass rushers. Cody's not even considered to be a third down player. Cody is a 70% bust potential IMO.

Brandon has zero influence in draft
Steely Dan replied to In-A-Gadda-Levitre's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank God Flutie was gone. Can you imagine Flutie with Kelly coming back from the USFL? There's a QB controversy that would be unnecessary. Also, no four SB's without BS, JMO. -
Can someone explain the mindset of the people who wait in line overnight for these types of things. New operating systems included. I don't get it. Do they really need to show people their iPads to oohs and aaaahs? An etch a sketch is much cheaper. JMO

An ULTRA-conservative friend of my brothers moved to North Carolina to avoid NYS taxes. His kids just began school last year and they've moved back up to Rochester and he says he will never complain about property taxes again. The schools in NYS are waaaayyyyyy better than those where he lived. This guys got family money and lived in an exclusive North Carolina area.
