  1. Add the fan voting, and CBS determines who wins (I'm sure they already influence it though....). People are on the island for 39 days (?) and you get to see what. 15 hours of it tops? It'd all be determined on the edit, not the gameplay.
  2. I was going to remind people about that - thanks! I haven't had time to copy everything from the old cookbook yet... But we really need more recipes here. The thought was that we'd then offer up a printed TSW Cookbook with proceeds going to some WNY charity of some sort, depending on how much money we raised. I'm hoping to get back on this soon -- and since school will be over for me in a few months, I should have more time.
  3. Check out dbsforums.com for some info on external enclosures. I don't think it makes that big a deal, but I haven't looked recently. You might also want to considering opening up the box and putting the drive in internally -- the box will automatically format it so that it works. Two of my HD DVRs are like that and it works great. Don't attempt if you're not comfortable working inside of a computer though -- and you probably violate your warranty or something if they find out. Blah blah blah. If you do hook up an external drive, it will "short circuit" your internal drive, meaning you can't see any of those shows anymore until you power it off and disconnect the external drive. Kinda annoying, and is why I put my own drive in. Also realize that hard drives are really expensive right now due to the floods in Thailand. You might be better off to wait. I haven't used the Whole Home DVR offering, but I was part of the beta program where the networking was done over Ethernet cable. That worked great for me; I just wasn't prepared to pay a monthly fee for the service. Hope that helps.
  4. I love my state. /sigh These recalls are a joke. What happened to "elections have consequences and I won?"
  5. Wife and I were on a road trip and pulled into a rest stop in Ohio. I was cleaning the car windows while fueling. At the pump in front of us, a guy was in a heated discussion/argument with some woman. He got pissed off and drove off -- with the nozzle still in the tank. It flew out of the tank and smashed down on our car - missing my head by about a foot. Left a nasty dent on the car. Glad it wasn't my head or I probably wouldn't be writing this.
  6. They still make answering machines....?
  7. I think it's funny that everything is considered "terrorism" or "terroristic threats" nowadays... Except protesters trying to shutdown a port.
  8. And othertimes you get to be #1 because you have the best marketing.
  9. Ummm.....
  10. I thought the highlights were all of the closeups of the cheerleaders... But the tailgate was probably a close second.
  11. My wife and her family are from Green Bay (you could see Lambeau from her parents' house before they moved), so I always root for the Packers as my "second" team. There's also a lot of Packers fans in Minnesota, including a guy on my team, so they're my #2. Unfortunately for me, they're nowhere near the Bills -- I watch them, but don't get passionate about it. My wife asked me yesterday, "Why don't you just become a Packers fan?" It doesn't work that way...
  12. Why would you cut him?! Does anyone realize that he's averaging 4.7 yards per carry this season? He only has 54 carries, but 4.7ypc is pretty good. If he had the minimum number of carries, he'd be in the top-12 average for RBs (and Freddy is 2nd) - skip the QBs): http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/rushing/sort/yardsPerRushAttempt I wouldn't call that that a bust; I'd call that not getting a ton of opportunities.
  13. Season's winding down - come hang out and chat!
  14. That actually doesn't happen much anymore since they went with 4 divisions per conference. You play your division twice (6 games), one AFC conference (4 games), one NFC conference (4 games), so that only leaves two games based on the previous year's record.
  15. So I get to go to CES for my writing gig at Neowin.net (Angry Birds cookbook! http://www.neowin.net/news/angry-birds-flies-off-of-your-screen-into-a-cookbook ). Has anyone here ever been to CES? I know it's supposed to be huge and I've heard there's a ton of walking involved because things are all over the place, but I don't really know what to expect... It should be a lot of fun -- and I'm already getting invited to a bunch of vendor parties since I'm officially "press" -- but just looking for hints and tips if others have gone.
  16. Yup, that's Minneapolis too. Took me awhile to wrap my head around the "too cold to snow" but it's definitely true. It's crazy looking outside seeing bright sun, blue skies... All because it's too cold for clouds.
  17. I grew up in WNY and moved to Minnesota. It's nowhere NEAR as cold in WNY than it is here. My 2nd year here, we had windchills of -70F and the temps were like -25F. The wires on your headphones freeze immediately when you walk out in it. Your nasal passages crystalize with the first breath. It's really weird.
  18. People here think the weather in Buffalo is the same... I keep telling them that it's MUCH warmer in WNY! On the flipside, there's a ton more snow. http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2010/12/10/america-s-25-coldest-cities.html
  19. Landing on a glacier and having dogs that are training for the Iditarod pull you along on a dog sled for awhile is pretty cool./..
  20. See the Bills win the Superbowl...
  21. Never been into MMO, but a bunch of people at work have been talking about it and are apparently going to form a guild.
  22. Great shows tonight! They played three different songs from the first show to the second show which was kinda cool too (although I really wanted them to play "Sleep" again at the 2nd show ). I wasn't as impression with the violinist this time. She was ok, but not as engaging as some previous ones. And nobody compares to Anna Phoebe. http://www.annaphoebe.com/ Anyway, glad I went to both - the suite was in the back of the arena giving a great overall view, and our seats for the 2nd show were right up front getting us more involved in the individual performances. It felt like two different shows!
