  1. You want to change your post to block out the spoilers? Also - you're judging the entire second season on the first episode...? It looks to me like they're making a "big bad" for the entire season, which could be very interesting.
  2. Never heard of that show before, but if that's a sample of what it's like, it appears I'm not missing anything.
  3. The most important question from the episode -- What was that bright yellow car in the car museum in Turin? That thing was AMAZING looking! Anyone know?
  4. Wisconsin just passed Voter ID and it's being struck down by a liberal judge in Dane County (that's Madison): http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/ruling-expected-monday-in-second-voter-id-case-c44hifo-142307425.html What's funny is the first judge who blocked the law also signed the "recall Scott Walker" petitions. Good to see he's being impartial. It's trivial to do. We knew that one of our neighbors wasn't voting a few elections ago -- he just didn't care, although this wife was there. It would've been trivial to go back to the poll a second time and say I was him. I don't see why flashing an ID is such as a big deal...
  5. Speaking of porn... http://www.neowin.net/news/hackers-slip-into-digital-playground-steal-credit-card-info
  6. Hard to argue with that logic. As an aside, for some reason your post made me hungry for snails cooked in butter and garlic...
  7. I'm pretty sure the AFFAIR is what led to them not being married in the near future. Facebook didn't cause it. If the affair was being conducted on a landline phone and the wife picked up a second phone while the two were talking, would you title be: "Telephone causes marriage break-up?" PS: You didn't have to be an ass with your last comment.
  8. I don't think Facebook is the cause of the break-up...
  9. Big shock. http://www.neowin.net/news/doj-accuses-apple-and-other-publishers-of-price-fixing-e-books
  10. I wrote that article and saw it with my own two eyes. It looked good. The even more impressive part was the ability to increase or decrease the 3D effect in real-time. While nothing is flying out of the screen at your head like the "shock and awe" 3D movies, the 3D was still there and impressive looking. It's along the same lines at upscaling -- putting information on the screen that isn't in the original recording. Now I don't know if Ultra-D will actually take off; they're in negotiations with companies, and I'm skeptical that anyone will want to pay them royalties when TV margins are pretty thin to begin with. But the glasses-free technology IS getting better and I think that's the major hurdle for 3D right now - nobody wants to wear the glasses when they watch TV and nobody wants to have to sit in the sweet spot in order to get the 3D effect. Once the glasses-free is perfected (and they're close), we'll start to see more and more of them being sold. HDTV took over a decade to catch on - 3D has only been around for a f ew years. It's still very early and it shows no signs of going away.
  11. Bruce Smith? Thurman Thomas? Andre Reed?
  12. I *wanted* HD DVD to win out, but I never made a prediction.
  13. I'm not a fan of 3D myself either -- not because I get headaches but because I don't think it adds anything to the movie and in fact is usually somewhat of a distraction. I'd much rather they focus on the 4K TVs. Toshiba had one of those and the picture looked *stunning*. I want 4K content far more than I want 3D content. (for those who aren't aware, 4K TVs have 4x the resolution of regular HDTV).
  14. No, I'm talking about actual glasses-free 3D television. No holograms, no fog. For example: http://www.neowin.net/news/ultra-d-seamlessly-converts-your-2d-to-glasses-free-3d Toshiba has an amazing looking TV that uses head tracking cameras to provide a 3D image as well. I don't know how it works, but it looked really good. That's the direction most of the TV manufacturers are going. But regardless, since most televisions built nowadays have 3D built, in, it's not going anywhere. Yeah, people aren't rushing out to BUY new TVs with 3D -- but if it comes in the package for free, the market will eventually have enough content where lots of people will want to watch it.
  15. Where'd you get that from...? Most TVs have 3D built in nowadays, and there's big money being spent on glasses-free 3DTVs that actually work well. I'm not a fan of 3D, but to say it's going to be gone soon doesn't seem accurate to me, especially after being at CES.
  16. People pay $16 for a movie ticket...?
  17. Yeah -- many people say "Netflix sucks because there's no good movies on it," when there's a trove of great films there (see the Netflix thread for proof).

  19. My wife's read the books and loves them. The concept sounds interesting and I'm sure I'll go see the movie.
  20. When I was in Alaska, I took a helicopter to the glacier where they train for the Iditarod. Even got to go on a sled ride - what an awesome experience! (Neither Anna nor Kristy were there though.... )
  21. It works really well. You can even record different greetings for different numbers which is kinda cool.
  22. We took the metro everywhere - it was great.
  23. We didn't go for that very reason. Handing you a card with information on someone from that era, only to find out if they live or die at the end (probably died) just isn't something I want to do on vacation...
  24. I second the Newseum. I wasn't expecting much when we went there, but it was *AMAZING.* Saw part of the Berlin wall, 9/11 stuff, plus all the history you can stand. Plus, there's a Wolfgang Puck cafeteria in the place and the food is actually REALLY good (especially compared to other places on the mall). I thought the tour of the capitol building was really cool too. Honestly, there's so much stuff to do in DC.
