  1. Thanks for the kind words! I know many here consider me a lefty. But in reality I like to view each issue as a one off. Weigh both sides. I do believe in some lefty stuff like I no longer believe in trickle down economics. I supported Yang cuz a least he was talking about automation and it's impact on jobs while most people in office have no clue about it. I don't like Trump. I also believe in some righty things like personal responsibility. I have voted for Ds, Rs, and Independents and will continue to do so. The think I like the least is the BS hypocritical views of people who are either blue or red with no wiggle room and lap up whatever their team says and bad mouths anything the other team does. So like here, I hear Rs are keeping black people from voting in Kentucky. So I looked it up. Turns out not to be completely like they said. It's amazing how often it turns up that what one side is trumpeting is maybe 1/2 true at best. I'm not on the blue team. I'm not on the red team. I'm on the American team. And I really like your posts. Keep up the good work
  2. Segregation is also listed in their demands. https://medium.com/@seattleblmanon3/the-demands-of-the-collective-black-voices-at-free-capitol-hill-to-the-government-of-seattle-ddaee51d3e47
  3. Good catch. Yes the flag is unfurled in every breeze from dawn to dusk. But nowhere does it say they fight for the flag but it DOES.say they fight for freedom. But now we are just passing song lyrics. As a Marine myself I take it to mean fighting for freedom. So I respect others freedom as long as they aren't hurting any one. Evidently you take it different which is cool. Thanks for your service. Semper Fi Mac.
  4. sounds like you're assuming what they were fighting for. A couple of lines from the Marine Hymm seem to suggest otherwise.
  5. I found out and am reporting back. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2020/06/kentucky-slashes-polling-places-voting-rights-mcgrath-booker-lebron-james/
  6. They didn't fight and in some cases die for a flag. They fought to protect freedom. Freedom to do what you want even of its not popular as long as its not ilegal. Like kneeling for the national anthem for example.
  7. Today in the Seattle Times they had a long article about CHOP, "Deadly shooting in CHOP leads to questions and soul-searching." In the article there was a picture of a guy with an AR-15 type rifle with a banana clip (high capacity magazine) strapped on his chest with his trousers tucked into his army boots and wearing a bullet proof vest. I found the caption somewhat ironic. "A man who goes by Lloyd, walks through CHOP on Saturday, carrying a weapon. Lloyd said it was his first day in CHOP and he's involved with anti-racist groups. "I'm here to deescalate," he said. "I don't want to have to fire this for any reason." In other words, he's like a cop in a no cop zone, but better armed. I read this in the old school hard copy newspaper and could not find it online, thus no link.
  8. Was this a conscious decision by some one or group to do this? If so, who?
  9. Couldn't the same be said of people from previous generations? Don't you think they were doing their best with what they had?
  10. Guess what. Some of the things you are doing now will be considered abhorrent 150 years from today.
  11. I keep hearing a lot of people making excuses and saying that's not what it means. However, BLM does not say that and neither does CHOP. https://medium.com/@seattleblmanon3/the-demands-of-the-collective-black-voices-at-free-capitol-hill-to-the-government-of-seattle-ddaee51d3e47. Seems pretty clear what they want.
  12. The Rangers is my team and has been since they moved to Arlington on 1972. I have always thought it was a dumb name. First, why Texas? There was already a team in Houston. Then it was named after a law enforcement agency. But what are ya gonna do if your team has a dumb name? I also root for the Buffalo Bills. A team with a Buffalo on their helmet named after a guy that killed mass quantities of Buffalos. I propose a new name. Arlington Friends of the Earth ?.
  13. This one takes the cake.for me. https://boston.cbslocal.com/2020/06/12/abraham-lincoln-statue-boston-mayor-walsh/ I did a little internet searching ( about 2 minutes ) and come to find out its a replica of a statue in Washington DC. The original was paid for exclusively by freed slaves and black veterans of the Union Army. When the original one was dedicated the key note speaker was Frederick Douglass. Douglass had some parts of it he didn't like, but evidently not enough to not make the speech. https://www.nps.gov/cahi/learn/historyculture/cahi_lincoln.htm Now we are cancelling freed slaves, black soldiers who laid their life on the line to free slaves, and Frederick Douglass because some people won't do their homework before getting outraged. It is Boston, so maybe I shouldn't be too surprised.
  14. Are the Tar Heels next? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar_Heel
  15. Well, they'll use unarmed street patrol. But they'd still need a few cops there just in case I guess. The thing no one talks about in this re imagining the police in regards to using social workers and marriage counselors to respond to calls is where are these people going to come from? There are not that many social workers and they don't make much money and are over worked. We don't have mental health systems in place for responding to calls and committing people for observation and treatment. Where we gonna put 'em? On top of that, the mental health treatment success rate is very low. It would also mean 911 operators would have to be very adept at diagnosing the problem in short order to send the right people. We would need a lot more specialists and the ability to deploy them properly. The reason we send cops out to everything is cuz that's all we got. Oh, and all this will have to be done while state and local governments are short on funds due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Jay "The Snake" Inslee is already promising draconian budget cuts if the Feds don't send him money. I don't trust the government to be able to re organize and set up all this without making it worse.
  16. Amen. This is what is driving me nuts on this thing. If we want to solve the police brutality and higher death rates per % of population for blacks, we would study the problem first to see exactly what we have. In 2020 we.have data analytic methods that can determine trends and patterns in large amounts of structured and unstructured data. Perhaps we could find some things we didn't know that we could fix. It is used for all sorts of applications. IBM Watson is such a technology. I'm not necessarily saying use that. There are others. It's just the one I know about cuz I used to work for IBM. Load on all the data for every case where someone was killed by police. Police reports, trial transcripts, any private investigations that were done, depositions, forensics, ballistics, autopsy reports etc. See what trends/commonalities come out of it.I https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_data
  17. Related: What anti-racism really means and how to talk about it. it's one of Chaz' demands. https://medium.com/@seattleblmanon3/the-demands-of-the-collective-black-voices-at-free-capitol-hill-to-the-government-of-seattle-ddaee51d3e47
  18. This is how they caght the lady that that set 5 cop cars on fire on Seattle. Tattoos. Pictures on FakeBook. When I saw it on the news I LOLed out loud. Stupid criminals.
  19. I read your article. Thanks for sharing I do not really doubt this stuff happens. Do you really think this alleged cop's name is A. Cab? In the disinformation world we live in I am skeptical of most things. Not using his/her real and using a funny name doesn't help. aside from all that, this was the part I thought had the best benefit to help the situation. cops can legally lie to you but if you lie to them it's a crime. I have been thinking for a while that the cop situation would be better for blacks and everyone if they knew their rights when dealing with police. Ask for a lawyer. I see people get hosed by police for not asking for a lawyer and instead confess after the cops bald faced lie to them on true crime TV shows where they show the actual police interrogation. I yell at my TV, ASK FOR A LAWYER. They rarely do. Officer A. Cab could do much more to help black people if he spoke at black churches and community centers telling people of how to handle dealings with the police than writing anonymous articles and pining for a dream land where all people's needs are met somehow IMHO.
  20. It does look like some serious/obvious pandering to do it at this point on time.
  21. June 19th has been a state holiday in Texas since 1980. Nice to see the enlightened North join the party. Better late than never I guess.
  22. I got the Perry reference as well. Perry makes the best objections.
  23. Are you sure about that? https://www.seattlepi.com/local/komo/article/Still-our-streets-Protesters-block-new-CHOP-15346260.php?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=headlines&utm_campaign=spi_itsintheseattlepi
  24. He's like Trump. Never read the Bible evidently.
  25. Ah, the ole switcheroo. Do the Rs get to claim FDR?
