I think there is a date circled on the calendar for Beane to give Cook and his reps the opportunity to seek a trade and subsequent new contract. If they get the $15 million/year and compensation that Beane is comfortable with then he is traded. What will most likely happen is teams will tell Cook they trade 3rdish rounder and pay him $11 million/year like Kyren Williams got. Then Cook and his team have their answer. His market value is around $11 million/year, which is probably Buffalo’s offer.

I think the difference is that Cook’s earning potential is between 2 and 3 times his current compensation, and while some have point out that people in other professions could never pull this move, people in James Cook’s profession and position are 1 awkward hit in an extremely violent game away from his earning potential to be none. Look at Nick Chubb. Not that anyone cares, but I will definitely be taking the player side in these situations. Get what you can while can. You’re one play away from being done. Just today a Colts (I think) RB was hip dropped in practice by a teammate and rushed to the hospital. 1 play away from earning nothing in the League.

I have said it before, but I firmly believe each and every player should do everything in their power to maximize their earnings while in the league. Get what you can young man, I support you.

From a pure numbers standpoint, 17 is taken in Buffalo. It would never work.

I said it another thread… I think these guys should all get as much as they can as soon as they can. Football careers can be built or destroyed by the organization combined with the coaching staff and the player all meshing well and seeing things the same. How many guys washed out because of the situation they got drafted into and then their confidence shook, an injury handled incorrectly, whatever else… No get paid. Get paid as much as you can. You have earned that right.
