2022 Free Agency - Around the NFL Thread
Albany,n.y. replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
6th team (5th if you don't count the Jets preseason). Fitz, he's trying to catch up to you. -
Even though there are a lot of people who rely on stats who say Josh didn't have a good rookie year, Foster is evidence that even as a rookie, Josh makes every receiver that he plays with look better than the guy actually is.
-
If you spend too much on 1 position, you create holes that you can't fill in others. The smart thing to do if you feel you need another receiver is to draft one who will be on a rookie contract. The dumb thing to do is to obtain a player at a position you already have a #1 in when the player you acquire is on the last year of his contract & you're going to have to pay him around $20 million on his next contract. This is especially dumb if you're spending a 1 or 2 on him because you're either paying him top dollar or losing him after 1 season. it's even worse when you have players of your own that you will have to extend or lose in the next year or 2-the exact position the Bills are in with Knox, Diggs and others. Anyone who would compare acquiring Metcalf to the Diggs trade needs to realize that Diggs came with a pretty good contract & Metcalf would come in on the last year of his deal & be expecting future mega-bucks pretty soon. If some of the people on this board run their own finances like they would like the Bills to run theirs, they are probably either broke, in huge credit card debt, or both. You can't run an organization like a fan who every time he sees a big name player wants him on his team regardless of the cap.
-
It was big for Watkins and Kelce but that was it. Mahomes was on a rookie contract with a cap hit in the low $4 million range. That is very different than the Bills cap situation for the next 2 to 3 seasons with our #1 WR up for a contract extension and our QB at franchise QB salary. That's what's real, go back and compare the 2019 Chiefs payroll with the Bills current and needed future cap $ which will also have the Bills having to pay a TE a lot in 2023 or earlier. You have no credibility trying to compare KC's 2019 salaries to the current Bills and having the audacity to endorse a ridiculous acquisition of WR who wouldn't even be the Bills #1 with more important spots to fill. No wonder a Chiefs fan wants to sabotage the Bills salary and roster structure.

He also drafted a HOF punter in the 1st round who, like the PK, lasted a lot longer than most of the other 1st round picks that year. Now there's no way I'm advocating a punter in the 1st round, but there was a method to Al Davis' madness. He solidified a postion each time for a much longer time than most NFL careers last. Of course the better way to go is the way the Ravens have handled things having a long time P who was a 6th round pick going into his 17th season & an undrafted PK, considered one of, if not the best PKs in the NFL, going into season 11.

I understand your ignorance on the cap & roster construction. Bye Felicia.
-
You started a thread that only someone who doesn't understand the salary cap would start. I clicked on it because I couldn't believe anyone would be that ignorant of the cap ramifications, yet you obviously are.
-
You do, clown. You're the one who started this STUPID thread.
-
You can't win a Super Bowl by destroying the salary cap with 2 top priced WRs. You obviously don't understand the salary cap & its restrictions.
-
So is the idea of trading for a soon to be high priced WR on the last year of his contract.
-
We're winning the off-season.
-
Maybe they're looking for an Osweiller type trade where the team takes a player & gets a draft choice too. Why would any team trade for Darnold with the 5th year option unless Carolina kicked in a pick or 2. Right now Carolina would love to dump off Darnold & his guaranteed salary.

Drew Lock is part of the trade per ESPN
-
Seattle is getting Drew Lock as part of the trade.

You don't have faith in Geno? 😄

Packers and Rodgers agree to deal. 4 year 200 million
Albany,n.y. replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
Last year I did a 20 year study of QBs by round. I don't think I included 2020's QB class which would bump up the top 10 numbers a bit with Burrow & Herbert. Here were my findings with the success %: Top 10 53% Rest of 1st round: 36% 2nd round: 24% 3rd round 17% 4th round 10% 5th round 0% (over 30 busts, the last 5th round success was in the 1990s) 6th round: 10% 7th round: 5% -
Packers and Rodgers agree to deal. 4 year 200 million

Jordan Love hasn't shown enough for any team to be interested in trading for him. GB doesn't have to do anything with him until the 2023 season. Right now, their best option is to keep him for another season & figure a way, either in preseason or a season finale with a locked in playoff spot, to increase his market value because right now it isn't much. Plus they would have to find a new backup QB. No matter how bad this year's class is, none of them has played as poorly in the NFL as Love has. -

Love must have scared the daylights out of GB's management between his practices & in game experience. They're lucky they didn't get rid of Rodgers. When Favre kept them hanging, they said go away and went with Rodgers. Obviously young Rodgers showed a lot more than young Love. 😀 As I stated above, I don't think it's courage-I think Rodgers showed a lot more when Favre was there than Love has shown with Rodgers there. -
The drum beat reached it's highest level in winter 2018 when we were sitting at 21 & 22 and they thought we should sign Cousins for mega bucks & use our draft picks on other positions. Every time I'd see a sign Cousins thread I'd scream NO multiple times at the computer. Cousins has always looked better on paper than on the field. That's why he never wins enough games.

Rumor- Harrison Phillips not coming back
Albany,n.y. replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall
Isn't every mock draft before late April nothing more than a click-bait article? There are plenty of mock drafts before free agency, trades, etc. Without knowing who is on the roster close to the draft, a mock draft is as worthless as any other wild rumor. So, every time someone responds to a mock draft this time of year, they are bamboozled into responding to nonsense. So if Harry moves he's taking his radiators with him? -
How much $ is Trubusky going to sign for in FA?
Albany,n.y. replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
There's no talk in the NY media about Trubisky. Meanwhile the talk is centered around getting an experienced BACKUP for Jones who can come in & win games if he's out, not a replacement. The Trubisky to Giants is just speculation by some guy who needs to put something out there to get paid with no idea what he's talking about. If Trubisky is going to get over $10 million, it will be from a team where he would immediately be #1 on their depth chart. Teams like Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Denver, Tampa Bay & Carolina make a lot more sense than the NYG. Unless the Giants new management has reviewed all the film & decided it's time for Jones to go, they are not signing Mitch. -
Rumor- Harrison Phillips not coming back
Albany,n.y. replied to wiseman3's topic in The Stadium Wall
Here's what some of you are missing. IF there's any truth to the OP, it might have nothing to do with tampering. Say you're working in a city far from home & you just want to get closer to home. So you're thinking, if I can get a job closer to home, I'm moving. Also, maybe he really likes another city even if he's never lived there & is hoping to get an offer from a team there. He may even be willing to go for less money, regardless of what the Bills have offered. Phillips may have a location in mind with no idea whether any team near there will want him or not. Robert Woods wanted to go home & there was no way he was coming back if he could play in LA. Nobody ever accused the Rams of tampering when Woods signed with them. Maybe Harry wants to play in NY & thinks Daboll will want him. Nobody knows yet and that may include Harry himself. -
I saw that in today's papers. More confirmation that they won't be trading Murray for picks IMO.
