The player is either good enough to extend or not worth 1 more year with the 5th year option. What did the Bills really accomplish by using the 5th year option on Edmunds & then letting him walk? The goal is to get a guy who will earn a 2nd contract, not just 1 more year before he leaves because the team had to make a decision after his 3rd season.

the perils of not moving up - a cautionary tale
Albany,n.y. replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's ridiculous. The only time Beane used a high pick on a WR was trading a #1 for Diggs. Meanwhile, most of Beane's WR picks have outplayed their draft position. Just because he signed some #3s & #4s, to back up his top WRs, who didn't do much doesn't mean much when compared with his draft picks or picks used for trade. -

JP Losman was the result of Donahoe not having the guts to offer enough to get into the top 10 and draft the QB he really wanted, Ben Roethlisberger. If Donahoe had offered enough to move up from 13, as Beane did later to move from 12 to 7, Bills history would be drastically different. So, by including JP Losman, you are supporting trading up. NOT trading up earlier in the draft was the problem, not the panic move for Losman when Donahoe lost out on Roethlisberger. -
Epic, Hypothetical Trade Scenario: Would ya?

How could you not include JP Losman & EJ Manuel among the generational QBs? 😁 -

The Giants were thinking of signing OJ, but that dream ended before they could write the contract. -
The only March Madness for me is that I can't watch the TV programs that it preempts on CBS. I don't do brackets because I know nothing about college basketball. I have no rooting interest since I have no affiliation with any of the teams that are playing. The only time a team from Albany or a city I've lived in in the past is in the tournament, it's one of the bottom seeds & exits quickly.

Similar value when Beane traded Sammy Watkins as a 1 year rental by the Rams. He used that pick as part of the trade up for Josh Allen.

Austin Proehl's brother is one of the contestants on American Idol. I think the real source is Simon Cowell.

Last player to leave in any way that hurt?
Albany,n.y. replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most of the players listed above were at the end of their careers. I looked at it more as what players went on to bigger & better things after they left. Top 2 are Wyatt Teller & Jason Peters, with Marshawn Lynch not far behind. Guys retire or get let go or leave in free agency, all as part of the business. But my top 3 were given away for pennies on the dollar & flourished in their new locations. -
Years ago, there was the Olof Paril hoax that had a story of an offensive line prospect that the Bills were interested in. I think it originated out of Rochester. At one point there was word that one of the other NFL teams actually believed it and wanted more information on him before the draft. Eventually it was revealed that Olof Paril was an anagram for April Fool.

The same RT got ejected on that play for spitting on the opponent.

What are your thoughts on the Steelers QB situation?
Albany,n.y. replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
NFL GMs may not be that good at recognizing a QB bust coming out of college, but they are good at recognizing a QB bust at the NFL level. That's why it's virtually impossible to take a busted 1st or 2nd round and get anything good out of him. If the NFL GMs hadn't considered Field a bust the Bears would have gotten a lot more when they traded him than they did (a 2025 6th that can become a 4th). The rest of the league didn't consider him starting material & the team that traded for him gave up virtually nothing for a backup with starters experience on the last year of his rookie contract. -
Woody Johnson says the Jets will not release Zach Wilson.

He may end up being the Covid QB like Jake Fromm was in 2020. Pay him his guaranteed money & keep him away from the rest of the team "just in case". 😄 How did they mismanage him other than putting him out on the field where he could STB? I've heard this before with guys like EJ Manuel & JP Losman too many times. The 3 have one thing in common, not mismanaged, just 1st round busts. -
He'd be better playing in warm weather. He's from San Diego & went to Stanford. I guess Beane didn't believe Deion & wanted to show him how wrong he thinks Deion is about kids who grow up in warm weather playing in cold weather cities.

Tyler Bass got married to the daughter of late former Bills punter. Will their 1st born son be a punter or a kicker? https://www.zola.com/wedding/ryantutenandtylerbass

It's all about the length of contracts. Fields is in the last year of his, Pickett has 2 years left.

Another horrible QB draft class. The only QB who has done anything was the last guy picked in the draft. 1st 2 QBs already traded. -
