The Chargers Oline were holding all day
sjjr replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The flags did not go the Bills way against the Chargers. When I watch Kyle Williams, I feel like he gets held a lot. The Chargers got away with holding most of the game, no doubt. The worst one was on a play in the Bills red zone, J.Hughes got spun around by K.Dunlap. Terrible. Hopefully the game will be more evenly called this week. Go Bills -
Would you rather have Geno and Rex or EJ and Doug?
sjjr replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone and EJ without a doubt. EJ has bigger upside and doesn't turn it over like Geno. Marrone is a true Head Coach that picks a great team of coordinators and coaches to surround him and lets them do their job. Rex is a great DC that needs a great OC. A better question for Rex is...who would he prefer at QB? EJ or Geno? If he had EJ, they might be 3-0. -
Why does the defense continue to get a pass?

The whole team lost in week 3, no question. Can't be at your best every game. Everybody on the Bills needs to rebound this week and get a big win. -
A Few Rare Pre-Game Thoughts And Ramblings.....
sjjr replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree this is a huge game...3-1 is very different from 2-2 as they head to the next part of the schedule. Go Bills -
Bills 20-16. Should be a defensive game that can swing on turnovers. Say what you want about EJ but he is less likely to turn it over than Fitz. Feel like the D will hold on the final drive for the win. The Bills should have success running the ball as the game goes on. The Texans surprisingly have had trouble stopping the run (5.2ypc). Like the receiver matchups this week a lot better, especially Woods in the slot. The Bills run D is much better this year and should be able to hold. The Texans will probably want to do exactly what the Chargers did to the Bills last week but they just don't have the personnel (mainly Rivers). Gilmore has to bounce back this week against these big, athletic receivers. Go Bills

EJ throws a nice deep ball but it needs it to be in play action and mostly on 1st down. Against the Texans that will be there possibly. We also have to remember the windy conditions last Sunday and the Chargers corners blanketing the Bills receivers.

Joe B's Upon Further Review: Chargers at Bills
sjjr replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice Analysis but don't agree the defensive line played as well as he says. When the Bills need pass rush on key 3rd downs, the Chargers 5 man line protected well and Rivers was able to step up and do what he wanted to make back breaking plays. There is no way Preston Brown can run with most NFL TEs. Gilmore has to bounce back against the Texans receivers this week. Aaron Williams has been the best player in the Bills secondary through 3 games, no question. He mentioned the receivers only getting 49 yards but I thought they clearly lost in 1 on 1 situations against the Chargers corners. Woods especially was dominated by Flowers. Everyone is picking on EJ but that is part of being a NFL QB. Go Bills! -
If the Bills win 8+ games and EJ starts more than 12 games overall, he is definitely the starter and QB of the franchise going forward. He is good enough to win games in the NFL and gives the Bills the best chance to win each week no question. When he came out last year, most people felt like he needed some time to develop but had to play because of what happened with Kolb. I thought he played better than expected last season. Not sure what people expect from him. This team is built to run the football, be physical and play strong D. The Bills are not going to put it up 40 times in game like Peyton Manning because that isn't their gameplan ever. He's accounted for 4 tds this season and 1 turnover. This team is not a come from behind team and EJ isn't a come from behind QB at this point. He's played winning football so far this season and showing improvement all the time. The Bills are 2-1, with a winnable game this Sunday. It's a long season, but closing out the first quarter of the season at 3-1 would be a good start. Let the kid play and Go Bills!

I thought the Bills lost this game on many levels before we get to EJ. The offensive line couldn't get any push and could not pass protect in the 2nd half. The receivers could not get separation throughout the game. Flowers blanketed Woods. Verrett ran with Goodwin and Sammy well. Weddell is a great safety back there too. The Chargers wide receivers dominated the Bills DBs. The Bills D-Line was neutralized for most of the game by the Chargers O-Line playing well together. The coaches were outcoached, that was clear from the first snaps. EJ made some athletic plays to keep plays alive that only a handfull of QBs anywhere can make. Everytime he stepped up and made a play downfield, a flag flied. To compare him to Rivers is unfair for a couple of reasons. Rivers is playing the best football of his 12 year career. His offense has been together for years and it's a perfect setup for him. Rivers team outplayed the Bills at all levels and made his job easier. EJ just made his 13th start and a lot of players around him are still figuring things out like him. Like most young QBs who've been successful in the NFL, he needs a running game to help him succeed at this point. They rushed for 81 yds. Did anyone watch Russell Wilson last week against the Chargers? Didn't he try to lead a comeback win but was stopped on his own 5 yard line on 4th and 11 by this Chargers team??? Stop the ragging on EJ and give the kid his chance. Go Bills!

Cyril Richardson needs to get a shot at RG
sjjr replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hairston, Cyril Richardson and Cyrus Kouiandijo need to get some shots as the season goes on. Both guard positions need improvement and are key to the offense. -
EJ had some rushing tds in college and showed he can do it in the Bears game. To me, with a young and mobile QB it would make sense to run some read options, sprints and rollout run/pass options for him. There should be a package of plays at the goal line for that. Other options would be fade/slant options for Sammy and Mike Williams on the outside. Would like to see M.Williams get a shot this week 1 on 1 in the red zone against the smaller Chargers corners. They should also be able to go with a heavy package with all of the huge o linemen on roster and run straight ahead with either Fred or Dixon. They'll get it going...Go Bills

Week 3 predictions: Chargers @ Bills
sjjr replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills 28-20. Time of possession is key. Have to get pressure on Rivers, especially on 3rd downs. Aaron Williams should matchup much better with Gates than Chancellor did a week ago. Woodhead and K.Allen will be tough matchups. Rivers will make some plays and put up some points, but it's important the D capitalizes and get turnovers when Rivers gives them the chance. EJ will have to complete some passes outside the hashes this week against pressure probably. If the Bills can convert 3rd downs, the run game should wear down the Chargers as the game goes on. Mike Williams could have a big game in the red zone. Go Bills -
He's accounted for 3TDs and only 1 turnover through two games. He's made good decisions and plays on 3rd down. With the game on the line, he threw a ball up the seam to Mike Williams against the Bears. The guy is playing winning football and doing everything he's asked to do so far. Overall he has started 12 games in his career and won 6 of them. Let's see what the kid has this week against the Chargers before we get too excited but no one can deny he is improving.
-
The 1 question was whether he could beat press coverage as a rookie. He answered that yesterday. They have to keep finding ways to get him the ball every game.
-
He was real good yesterday.

Bills 24-13. The Bills can get ahead early with draws, screens and cutbacks then they can turn loose the pass rush on Tannehill and force some turnovers. Would like to see Spiller get a long td run. As the game goes on, the big Bills O-line can wear down the Dolphins front and inexperienced LBs. Have to watch out for Clay in the passing game. We don't want Preston Brown trying to run with him. Go Bills

How will Henderson hold up this week against Wake?
sjjr replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's important the Bills get ahead early and run screens, draws and cutbacks to make Wake and Vernon think about that later. As long as they stay in decent down and distance, the tackles should be alright. As the game goes on, maybe some power sets and run right at them. Henderson has shown he can do it athletically with anyone. He might be better for this matchup than even C.Glenn. The secondary moves to the inside as the game goes on might be a concern and if they need to pass in obvious passing situations, have to bring some help. Go Bills. -
Corey Graham should start at CB opp Gilmore
sjjr replied to 26TrapDraw's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's all about matchups. McKelvin is best against speed guys and should matchup well with Wallace. Him trying to cover Jeffrey or Marshall is tough. I thought he fought hard and made an impact play forcing that fumble from Marshall. Graham is a versatile guy who can cover pretty well all kinds of types. Gilmore matches up well against big, physical and athletic #1s most times. He should be with Hartline this week and it could be a tough matchup for him. -
It's important the Bills get ahead early and force Miami to pass. Albert against Hughes could be an even matchup, but Juwaun James against Mario will be bad. James is a good prospect coming out of college with athleticism, a former 5 star recruit, but he struggles against power. Mario will eat him up in both matchups this year. Cam Wake is a different rusher with pure speed and little power so hard to say that is preparation for Mario. Kyle Williams and Dareus will eat up the interior of the Miami line, especially in passing situations.
-
Gilmore should up against Hartline, McKelvin should run with Wallace and Graham on Gibson or the #3 receiver.
-
The Bills offense should be running a lot of screens, draws and cutbacks early to slow down Vernon and Wake. The Dolphins have had trouble with this in past games versus the Bills, especially Spiller. As the game goes on, the big Bills line should wear down the Dolphins front. If Gilmore plays, the secondary should matchup well with the Dolphin receivers too. Might have some trouble with Moreno and Miller out of the backfield catching the ball. Have to think the Bills matchup well though, especially at home.

can schopp and bulldog postgame show be added to ugly? They find a way to make it sound like the Bills lost today....
-
The Bears had 5 first downs on penalties....had a holding call picked up when it is clearly holding and the Bears held all game....took away first down plays from offense....The Refs were the ugly for sure.....Great Win despite all of that!
