Police Standards Are A Problem
keepthefaith replied to The_Dude's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
7th grade woodshop class, teacher was at least 6'7". One student was special needs (but we called them something else back then). Other student was making fun of the special needs kid in a bad way. Teacher came over, lifted the jackass up by his shirt back of neck, his feet barely touching the ground. Took him over to the other side of room and let him have it verbally. Really let him have it. I'll bet they heard it on the other side of the school. Guarantee you that story never was told at home to his parents. -
Police Standards Are A Problem

Before I would freak out as a parent I'd ask my son why he was robbing the vending machine, didn't stop after teachers told him to and what did the Police officer tell you to do before he took you to the ground? -
Police Standards Are A Problem

Hiring practices likely vary from one jurisdiction to the next but in this area hiring is competitive and 4 year degrees are common among police. Fortunately we don't seem to have many incidents in this country of police getting physical with 14 year olds but what we can't see in the video is what the officer requested of the thief before he took action. Not defending the cop's actions but there might be more to the incident. At some point of non-compliance police do have the right to subdue those being arrested. -

What about the QB coach? -
Thanks for posting the 302. Without seeing the government's evidence it's hard to say if Flynn lied or couldn't recall something. In the end though, here is a guy who was under surveillance, had contact with a Russian counterpart and is being charged with nothing remotely close to collusion. He was under a microscope and thoroughly investigated and the government has nothing even after using some very questionable tactics to spy on him and interview him casually. Mueller and co squeezed everything they could out of the guy. Flynn's living in a ***** storm but the book or the movie down the road will likely reward him and exonerate him well. If the judge throws the thing out, he won't be bound by the plea agreement and can go on offense against a number of people. That would be a big turn of events.

Refreshing if it's an accurate use of the term.

The Trump Shutdown
keepthefaith replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I like it. A 100% income tax on wages earned by illegal immigrants. -
Heckuva good post. As for paying for it for all, rich people and evil rich corporations will pay for much of it. The rest will simply be funded with a larger deficit. Problem solved.

The Trump Shutdown
keepthefaith replied to WhitewalkerInPhilly's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Agree he said that and a shutdown should not be about a wall. It should be about doing something fiscally sound rather than voting to raise the debt ceiling again and again and never addressing why we have to continually do that at a gigantic clip. It should be about using the people's money in a responsible way. Funding better border security would be responsible, but other expenditures have to be moved down in priority. -
Yes and it really sucks. ***** Paul Ryan for all his rants about fiscal responsibility over the past 10 years became a turtle when his party gained the white house and majorities . You'd think a guy like him would want to get something meaningful done before he left office.

It would be interesting to overlay manufacturing revenue. When I was a kid, all the cheap crap said made in Japan on the bottom. For a long time now it's been China.

If we could hack off Israel and move it to a spot in the Caribbean or closer to Bermuda we'd care a lot less. -

A wall alone won't do but staffing the entire border in such a way that it would be well secured means a lot of long term cost and costs that will rise over time. That would then be subject to ongoing funding making it easier for an administration who wants more open borders to simply kill it. Agree though that some additional staff and technology should also be deployed and Trump's wall does include technology. Tough to build a wall along the Rio Grande. Mexico unlikely to pay for the wall, directly speaking. Mexico could be a better neighbor and be a lot more cooperative. It's the biggest no brainer on earth that we need the border much better secured. Both parties should agree on that. They can argue about how to best do it but both sides should be committed to getting it done.
