  1. I think he's managed the cap well so far. 5-11 teams have a lot of holes, he's brought in a bunch of players on the cheap to try to fill some of those holes/provide depth. If you throw a lot of money at one or two players you only solve one or two problem areas. (That's assuming you big name FA doesn't get hurt or had a career year just to get a big contract.)
  2. For Brian Griese going to Chicago, he writes a little competition never hurt anyone. Why can't he same the same thing about Nall coming here? The Bills didn't pay a lot of money for the guy and he's worth gambling on.
  3. Can we reduce his dead cap space if we "re-work" his deal prior to a trade? That would be ideal, if the Bills could get a draft pick and an extra million or two in freed up cap space.
  4. At the 3/21 press conference, Marv didn't say he was going to cut Moulds. He said that after Moulds examines his options with other teams, he might find out that the Bills are still making him the best offer with the paycut. The Bills will get a 3rd or a 4th for him as long as there are 2 or more teams interested in him. The team that trades for him gets him for sure, the team that waits until he's cut might lose him to another team. If you are a team that is a playoff contender, why wouldn't you make the trade? Any WR you pick up in the 3rd round probably isn't going to be as good as Moulds over the next 2-3 years.
  5. OK, I'll guess. San Diego. A contender, lousy WRs and AJ Smith is familiar with him.
  6. ARZ has got to be a least thinking about letting him walk. If it was a no brainer to match the offer, team officials could have just annouced today that they were keeping him. He either wants out or the money is more than they want to pay. We still might get him.
  7. There are still some free agents out there, the draft, undrafted FA, post June 1st free agents, possible trades etc. We should judge the team they have on opening day, not the one they have right now. It's like asking if the cake will be good when it's still batter in the mixing bowl. Even if their record is similar this year, I'll be happy if the team shows that they are trying to build a long term contender. All I want is hope for the future and proof that they are back on the right track.
  8. I love sports talk radio but I can't stand WGR. I still end up listening to it ,occasionally, because there is no other choice. However, I just don't see how the station offers any entertainment. They don't provide any information that can't already be found on the internet. They don't "scoop" anyone on local sports stories, it's not like you "hear it first" from them. The hosts don't even offer very good opinions anymore. You can read smarter comments regarding the Bills here and at other sites. Show prep to those guys seems to be visiting Two Bills Drive. I can do that myself. Plus, successful radio personalities make it seem like they are talking directly to you, like they are your friend or people you want to hang out with. The WGR hosts seem like people you work with; whiners that you tolerate because you have no choice. Here's hoping that either someone with a little money restarts WNSA or that creative amateurs start making downloadable podcasts that are all about Buffalo sports.
  9. As long as Nall isn't making a lot of money, I think it makes sense to gamble on him. As mentioned above, GB has a good history of drafting QBs. Granted Wolfe is gone but some of the scouts that were identifing the talent might still be there.
  10. I like that Marv is trying this. Like you said, it took few hours of his time and what do you have to lose? At worst, two teams eat up some of their cap space to re-sign their own. At best, we get a young player with some NFL experiece for a low draft pick.
  11. I still think Felser is great. He's one of the few things I look forward to reading every Sunday. The man is retired, however, so I don't expect him to write a top notch column every week. I still think he usually makes some good points and I value his opinion, esp. when he talks about the Bills.
  12. I agree. All the signings have been under 30 so far also. He's not building a team that will win next year, he's trying to build one that can contend for a few years. That takes time but it's well worth it. All I want in 2006 is some hope, just show me that the team is headed in the right direction. With the exception of the usual gratuitous comments by the chronically depressed, this is an excellent thread with some great posts.
  13. I agree with you, we should be going after younger guys and building the team throught the draft. I don't have a problem with Fabini or Runyon, however, if we can get one at a reasonable price.
  14. "Kia will assemble cars and either SUVs or minivans at a $1.2 billion facility in tiny West Point, bringing to the state economy at least 4,500 paychecks, between the jobs in the plant and positions at five supplier companies." Be nice to see WNY win an economic Super Bowl like this.
  15. Is Reggie Wells a restricted free agent? Fox has him listed that way, plus he's been in the league 3 years. Guards FA
  16. I've always bought American cars (used), haven't had a real problem with any of them. It's not like the Bills are anti-American. Toyota offered them money, they took it. What's wrong with that? I'm sure the team would have been just as happy to take Ford or GM's money.
  17. If Royal is really a good blocking TE, then I don't think it's a bad signing. I think that would help the O line/running game. We need a bunch of DTs, so I'm good with Triplett also. Davis might have some potential. He showed some flashes of being a good WR in Cleveland. Overall, I agree it's kind of strange. Nothing that really blows your socks off but I like the fact that we're going after younger FAs. They seem to be looking long term, rather that win now, which I think makes more sense. (But, of course it's only day one FA so who knows)
  18. It's not naive, it's smart business. If the owners would have played hardball with the players, they would be paying significantly less in revenue each year. Your short term loss would be small compared to the long term gain. 59.5% vs 56% is 210 million dollars a year at the 6 billion in revenue the NFL makes annually. Plus the players will just ask for more when this deal is over, now that they realize the owners will cave in this easily.
  19. I think he'd be tougher on the NFLPA. I think he was one of the driving forces, behind the scenes, in the NHL lockout. This new labor agreement appears to be a bit of a punt. The owners didn't really want to bother with potential problems now, so they put it off until 2011. I think Tom G. would have argued strongly to deal with things now, even if it meant losing a season. He would have wanted a smaller percentage of revenue going to the players.
  20. I agree completely. Offer someone more money, they play for you. This belief that "no one wants to come to Buffalo" has been around since the beginning of free agency. It's proved wrong every almost every single year (excellent job listing our recent signings) and I have no idea why some people feel the need to cling to it.
  21. The guy was honest. How are you embarassed by doing that. We're all assuming it's a cut and dried issue because of a couple of sentences in an article on the web. It probably is involved. What's wrong with taking your time to make a decision? Plus, every owner, including Ralph, probably had an army of laywers and accountants to help him. I doubt he was there by himself. Congressmen vote all the time on issues that directly effect you, without knowing what they are voting for. I wish they'd take a lesson from Ralph. All ESPN has proven today,by taking some cheap shots at a guy pushing 90, is that they are completely classless; which will make it even sweeter in couple of years when we're back on top and their simpletons like Colin Cowherd and John Clayton are forced to eat crow. (Which they won't, they'll clain that they knew the Bills were going to be good all along.)
  22. I'm sorry, I try to be respectful when I post but this is the dumbest proposal I've seen yet. How is changing the name going to sell even one extra ticket or add to the bottom line? It's not a matter of being a "nostalgist", it's about being a fan. You want to turn your back on almost 50 years of tradition with the present Bills and even a few years in AAFL with the same name in the 1940s because you don't know who Buffalo Bill Cody is?
  23. I think JT is right, the extra time is great for the new staff. I'm sick of hearing that the Bills are a low revenue team. Who cares, income matters. The Bills are in the top half in income. Forbes NFL Income A team that can make 36 million in a year isn't about to move. I don't get why people are freaking out about the lack of a CBA. It will get signed, it will be soon and the Bills aren't going anywhere.
  24. I agree. We've got football this year (and next). The two sides must be kind of close or they wouldn't keep extending this deadline. Something will get done shortly. Plus, the Bills are under the cap and most of the teams that are over I hate. So let's watch them explode (Miami, Redskins, Jets to name a few.)
