  1. I think Lofton is going to be a good head coach. The Raiders job has to be the toughest in the NFL right now but there are only 32 positions. Even if he takes it and does OK with the team, it might set him up for a second chance as a head coach with someone else.
  2. Jacksonville didn't sell out a single game last year. They just tarped over whole sections of their stadium. If the NFL is OK with the Jags doing that, they can't be too concerned about attendence. Talk about a vague statement from an anonymous source. The word is there are alarm bells? What the Hell does it exactly mean, other than somebody who probably didn't watch a single Bills game last year had to fill in some column space.
  3. I like Kiwaukee Thomas a lot. I remember after the Chargers game someone asked him what the team plays for, now that they had been practically eliminated from the playoffs. You could tell he was a little POed by the question and he answered, "We fight!" He's a good role player and that's the kind of character Marv is always talking about. If we lose London and Nate, we've got to replace them both, plus we've got to get better at running the ball and stopping the run. If the Bills can do all that, I think we'll be a solid playoff team. It's doable but it might be a tall order for one off-season.
  4. I agree. People oversimplfy the Pats by saying it's all Brady and Belichick. They are a great team, top to bottom and have been for years. IMO, you're going to see some future HoF from that team that nobody talks about now. But they are starting to get old. The Pats were not worldbeaters this year. They really should have lost that game yesterday. It might not be next year but they are going to slip sometime in the near future. Hopefully, the Bills will be able to take advantage of it.
  5. Since we have to play two games internationally over the next 16 years anyways, I hope both of them are in Toronto. You're right it would help market the team. That's not what Willis wants however, he wants the team to play all of their homes games in Toronto. So, if I'm reading your post right, you don't really agree with him at all.
  6. I didn't have a problem with him until he stated that they should move the team, "case closed". I pay a lot of money to watch the Bills play every season. I expect a little loyalty for my money. If he can't do that, he should leave and I really hope the Bills trade him this off-season. If I can turn the question around, Why do people love Willis so much? A good RB would elevate a bad O-line. He can't do that. I'm not saying he's a bad player but I think he's proven to be an average NFL RB. 1000 yards is not that big a deal in today's league. The fact that he couldn't break it, despite his number of carries, tells me he can be replaced. Yes, he'd be better with an improved O-line but so would any other RB. He doesn't have enough talent to justify keeping him, esp. since he's a player I plan to boo next year if he comes back as a Bill.
  7. Doesn't a paper in Dallas also do their own rankings? I'd like to see where we rank in that one also. Great link above, however, thanks for posting it. Slightly OT but here's a question; Does anyone worry that we might lose Bobby April to a head coaching position? You can't be this good for this long without someone noticing. If we make the playoffs next year, I think someone might take a look at him.
  8. I'm not trying to call anyone a name here; I'm just trying to be descriptive. People that think the Bills are headed out of town everytime anything slightly negative happens are paranoid. Here is Goodell's money quote: Asked about the fact that the last four Bills games were blacked out on television in Buffalo because they failed to sell out, Goodell said: "I think it's another issue that we need to make sure that we're doing everything possible to generate the kind of enthusiasm and excitement that I know that Buffalo Bills' fans have for the Bills." Buffalo News Article He knows that Bills fans didn't show up for the games because the team has been bad for the last five years. He also knows we're too savvy as football fans to really think the team's playoff run was anything more than a fool's hope. We had a down year attendance wise because the Bills try to sell all their tickets pre-Labor Day. The attendance was based on the team's 2005 team performance, which was one of the worst seasons in team history. That squad quit halfway through the season. So we had a down year. Considering most teams sold out all their games this year, our down year was as good as their best year. Despite the drop off in attendance, the Bills' season average of 67,646 was about 100 short of the league-wide average. Times Union Article
  9. I'm happy Reed made the final 15. He didn't get that far last year. I think you can make a pretty strong arguement that Reed was better than Irvin and Monk.
  10. I don't agree with the 3 kids with 3 different women thing. I think it makes him a low class indivdual. Ultimately, it's his personal life and his business. I can still root for him, but I'm not going to buy his jersey and he's never going to be one of my favorite Bills. What I'm never going to forgive him for is the "just move the Bills to Toronto" comment. If he thinks so little of us, the paying customers of the team, he can go to Hell. Maybe this is just another ploy to try to get himself traded. If it is, it worked. He's dead to me and I really hope they get rid of him.
  11. I'm starting to think that JP is going to have a better career than Eli.
  12. Well, you could say it goes back to the 20's. 1921 was the first year the NFL was in existence. There was no championship game at the time. The Buffalo All-Americans went undefeated that year and claimed the title. The Bears also were undefeated and they were crowned the champs. The two teams didn't play that year so we'll never know who was better. (I read some stuff about the early pro football leagues a while ago and I'm writing this from memory. I apologize, in advance, if I made an error.)
  13. San Diego CHARGERS! San Diego SUPER CHARGERS! I think they are going to win and I'm rooting for them. I'd love to see AJ Smith and Wade Phillips get the ring. Plus, how can you not root for the team that the late great John Butler had a hand in building. God Bless the Big Man.
  14. It's my understanding that the Bills were the second best team in the AAFC after the Cleveland Browns. The NFL wanted the AAFC to shut down so they offered to take a handful of teams. The Browns conspired to keep the Bills out of the NFL so they could have first dibs on the Bills talent. The NFL took the Browns, the 49ers and one other team (I think). The Bills and the Browns mergered and the Browns became the premier team in the NFL for many years to come. When Lamar Hunt died they mentioned how he got the NFL to take all the AFL teams. I think his accomplishment was in reference to how the NFL treated the AAFC. I love Jeporady. I'm dissappointed I missed this one.
  15. There is a three yard per game difference between the two years. We averaged 137.8 running yards per game against us in 2005. In 2006, it was 140.9. You're right that the run D stinks but it stunk, consistently, both years.
  16. We were 19th or 20th against the pass in 2005. This year we were 7th or 8th. The safeties were the biggest difference between the two squads. I'd say that's a significant impact. He got burned at times and at times he missed tackles. He's a rookie. He was also all over the field and in on a lot of plays. His percentage of bad plays was very low considering how much he contributed. He was the team's #2 tackler with 105. Ngata was placed into one of the best Defenses in the league. He also had a solid season for a rookie but he didn't get a sack until week 15. The Bills had one of the worst Ds in the league in 2005. Whitner improved it greatly. Did he make it a good D? No, but I doubt Bruce Smith could have done that. Comparing the the seasons of the two players, I'd still take Whitner. Looking at picks 9-32 for the last draft, I really don't see a lot of players I'd rather have than Whitner. Hali in KC stands out, but if we would have taken him at 8 people would still be saying we took him too high.
  17. I think he's been about as solid as a rookie can be at the postion. Dr.Z had him pegged as a sleeper pro bowl selection. He was D rookie of the month for September. You hear people nationally mention Simpson and Whitner as being impressive for rookies on a regular basis. I think people are dissatified with the pick because, it's not a glamorous position and it's hard to judge everything he does just watching the game on TV.
  18. I agree 100%. Everything he talks about is just meaningless and vague. He seems to pick topics like, "Is Buffalo a hockeytown?" because they take little to no show prep. He belittles the people that call into his show. He thinks he's intelligent but he's just arrogant and snobbish. Who the hell wants to hear him talk about his new favorite French cheese or when he prattles on about American idol? He's negative about the Bills, not to make legitimate points but just for the sake of being negative. I love listening to sports talk about the Bills and Sabres but the afternoon show on WGR isn't worth my time. I really wish WGR's management would fire him. He must have an audience, however, or he wouldn't be on the air. It must be the DeLucas of the world; they seem to have a lot in common with Schopp.
  19. We played 3 of the 4 teams that have a first round bye. 5 division winners. 8 games against playoff teams. (Assuming the Jets beat Oakland) and 3 games against teams that are still alive for the playoff in week 16. I'd say that's a tough schedule.
  20. I'm OK with giving Willis a modest raise, trading him for a decent draft pick or watching him play out of his skull in a contract year and then letting him leave via FA. I'll be very disappointed if the Bills reward him with a big contract. I don't think he's shown that he's deserved one. Anyone read the program at the game last Sunday? Willis wants to be a movie star! I wonder if this isn't a ploy to force his way out of Buffalo so he can pursue his "career".
  21. I think we can get a RB, if needed, in the draft. I'm not saying he'll be great but I'm OK with the A Train as the starter as well.
  22. A man has got to know his limitations. Lindell knows his. He thought he couldn't make it and he and Jauron did what they thought gave us the best chance to win. I kind of respect him for it. The NFL is filled with big egos. His humility and desire to put the team first is refreshing. Credit the Titans D on that 4th down. That play wasn't designed to be a Hail Mary. The Titans secondary had everyone covered and JP threw the bomb only after it was his only choice.
