Federal Judge rules male only draft unconstitutional
DC Tom replied to /dev/null's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Less a function of "women" being incapable, than women who were unqualified being pushed, for social-engineering reasons, into situations they weren't prepared for. It's not their fault because they're female. It's the fault of an organization being paradoxically told that women have to be held to a lower standard to demonstrate they're equal. Did anyone ever conclusively determine Hultgreen was underqualified? Certainly her crash was pilot error, and fairly obvious at that...but the F-14A wasn't exactly pilot-friendly to begin with, and has killed more than its share of pilots. -

Generally, you don't evacuate team members. At most, you stabilize them, then let the medic/corpsman treat them while you continue the mission. Not a hard rule, of course - I know someone who engaged a shooter in Iraq, then carried two injured men to a Humvee (with a shattered arm of his own) and evac'd them (deserved a Silver Star for it, only got a Bronze Star for some reason.) But generally, you're not carrying the wounded to safety. But generally, you want the troops to continue the mission, and leave evacuation of the wounded to the people who's mission it is. Plus...the average combat infantryman is carrying far too much ***** to carry a person besides... -

When Does Taxation Become Oppression?
DC Tom replied to The_Dude's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Ironically, the point at which gator and Dude start responding to each other is both oppressive and taxing. -
And yet, it did. I mean, technically I guess it was well-done. There were no particular weaknesses in the movie. But no particular excellence, either. Merely...competent, I suppose. It probably deserved the production design award, though, and maybe original score (I don't really know what it was up against, so I can't judge.)

Merely an entertaining reply. Awesome would have been writing it in wingdings.

You get weather warnings in Comic Sans? What, you couldn't use wingdings? ***** USACE.

He's almost a shoe-in. He's got two of the three criteria the Academy look for in a best actor: he plays a gay character, and he plays a real person. If he'd cried, he'd be a lock. Plus...not that the Academy cares, but it was a legitimately great performance. Since Roma won best foreign language film...there's a good chance Black Panther wins Best Picture. Which would be inexplicable to me - it was pedestrian, at best.

Fireworks on the mall? How unprecedented! Trump just tweeted the annual 4th of July DC celebration...and he's going to have Democrats arguing against celebrating the 4th of July tomorrow, just watch.

1) They're not that extreme, or anomalous. 2) That fact that you think they are demonstrates that you are, as usual, thoroughly ignorant. -

Stump @ExiledinIllinois (f/k/a Can someone explain...)
DC Tom replied to BringBackFergy's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No. They were good siege engineers, and invented the siege tower. But really...siege warfare was pretty much all the same until the siege of Constantinople in 1453: march up, ask for terms, if you don't get them you rush the walls. If that fails, you dig in and hope either the city gives up or someone inside the city shows you a secret way in, before either a relieving army shows up, or your besieging army dies from starvation and disease. -

He doesn't even understand that they already voted, when they passed the NEA and other parts of the USC. -

And when she's done, I'm going to find whatever bar she's working in, order a Heaven Hill 27 Year Old John Collins, and slowly sip it while I ask her how the ***** view is from the ***** cheap seats. And she's getting a nickel tip.
