I doubt Trump understands the law well enough to make that statement. He really should just shut up. If he were smart, he'd leave it at "We'll let the fine people at the DoJ look into it. Fine people, I'm sure they'll do well." His bold, declarative statement just makes him look like an idiot. It's going to be hilarious watching Democrats twist themselves in knots trying to excuse this while still condemning Manafort. -
Except that his political base believes him, to the point that it's strengthening his status with them. And who cares about anyone else? They're deplorable.
-
In principle I support this: he said he had evidence, he directly contradicts the report of the special investigator, so he should stop withholding the evidence he has and present it. In practice...c'mon, how's this going to work? Appoint another special investigator? The FBI? House committee hearings aren't happening. Let it go for now. Concentrate on Brennan, Ohr, Strozk, etc., and work your way up.
-
No problem with people joking about assassinating Trump though, I've noticed. "But there's no bias in the media!"
-
They don't even know the proper meaning of the word "construed." It'll pass. It always does. Probably already has.
-
No, not even then. The main problem with that reasoning is that the intent of Congressional immunity is to prevent the sort of action you're suggesting: the escalation of personal or policy differences to the level of sedition. Even arguing "but he lied" doesn't change that - there's no "pants on fire" exemption to immunity. And his Go8 work is pretty solidly legislative in nature.
-
Canonically, yes, and in committee and investigations. But in modern times the courts tend to interpret it more broadly. I'd think in this case it's ambiguous, and a decision would come down to venue shopping. But if I were on the bench, knowing what I know right now about his case, I'd probably support immunity, though with considerable regret. Most likely, though, I think they'll strike a deal where he doesn't seek reelection in return for not being investigated or charged.
-
That makes the argument stronger, as being one of the "Gang of 8" more solidly establishes everything he's said and done as being legislative activity.
-
There's a decent argument that Schiff has immunity - that his statements and even leaks were part of the "legislative process." He'll certainly argue that, if pressed, and I'm not sure he'd be wrong, either.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/03/28/gop-adam-schiff-resign-1241749 Apparently there was a heated argument about him resigning. But I want to highlight this gem from the politico story: He's gone from "collusion" to "failed to accept Russian offers of collusion."

But he has conclusive evidence he's having a good morning, which everyone will see eventually.

I think they traced the one in Rockland to an immigrant, though. Point being either way: measles was eradicated in the US within the past 10 years, until people decided that subacute sclerosing panencephalitis was better for their kids than an owie. -

Filthy Fuhrer was indicted? You don't say? Along with Thumper, Glen Dog, Oakie, and Beast? And then when ridiculous nicknames were being handed out, Beau and Colter said "Nah, man, we're already ridiculous enough with 'Beau' and 'Colter.'" Congrats to Dustin, for being the least dysfunctional meathead of the Faux Van Buren Boys.
