No RB coaches at Penn State pro day
apuszczalowski replied to BuffAlone's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought it's cause RBs are a dime a dozen and can be found anywhere so he will go undrafted or late round..... -
Its very, very, very, very very seldom that teams will trade away a player they just signed as a FA that offseason, and even more seldom that they trade them back to a team that had already traded that player away in the past.....................
-
Same could be said about garapollo, he never played much and only started a handful of games before the 49ers dealt a 2nd rounder for him, and gave him the freedom to just go out and play and now made him one of the highest paid QBs in the league....... And who says they don't get a QB? Theres more Qbs in the draft besides the top 4, and they could take Jackson or Rudolph at 12 and have something there too.
-
I would say that technically they all are since very few players make it in to the league without going through the draft. So technically, all HOF QBs were at one time available through the draft.......... But I know what your saying (and just making a joke) that not its not often that the early QBs drafted in the draft end up as HOFers. For every HOF QB drafted in the top 10 of the draft, you can probably count 10 that won't make it or flopped. The key to all of this is that to trade away the assetts that are most likely necessary for the Bills to move up this year, does anyone feel that any of the top 4 are future HOFers or in the elite category of starting QBs? Cause if not, then thats alot to give up for a QB

How much it will actually cost to get to #2
apuszczalowski replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are a few of us saying pretty much exactly that. Are Rosen or Darnold (or Mayfield or Allen) going to be Dalton or Bradford types? Theres no real indication that any of those guys are going to be elite "generational" type guys If the Bills had these same picks last year does everyone want them to mortgage the draft to move up for Watson or Trubisky? Or in previous years move up for Jameis Winston or Marriotta? -

He will be gone by 12 and there at 5 though. The wrench in this whole thing is if the Giants are willing to move that far down, even if it include obtaining another late 1st. Do they feel that they can still get a guy they really want at 5, or do the want players that would still be available at 12 and 22 more then one player in the top half of round 1? Do they want/value Quantity or Quality in this draft? -

Even the group ok with trading for Foles could be right. He has shown signs of being able to play in big games and a few times has been looked at as a potential full time starter in this league. Would Foles and a bunch 1st-3rd round picks make the Bills a better team? McCaron also give the potential to become a starter in this league also. Its highly unlikely they become an elite QB like Brady or manning or Brees, but could they be good enough to be guys that could keep the franchise competitive? Sure the odds are greater that the top QB taken in the draft will have success, but its not a guarantee because theres no guarantee that even the best guys in this draft are franchise guys and may just end up being good starters but not special. What most people that are against moving up have with the idea is that they don't feel these guys are worth what it will take this year to make the jump. The other issue is that there are those who believe that all that matters is having an elite QB and everything else won't matter, where others know that its rare to actually obtain an elite franchise guy and that building a solid team with a good QB can be just as successful. Its highly doubtful the league sees another Brady/Patriots for a long time. What other team can compare to that? P. Manning, as great as he was in the league couldn't win without a good team around him, Brees could put up crazy offensive numbers and still not win because they didn't have a decent defence. Russell Wilson, Big Ben, Phillip Rivers? Great QBs who cant carry the franchise themselves on their own. As good as Wentz was, the Eagles were still able to put up good offensive numbers and beat the Vikings and Pats to win the SB with their backup and a great defence. Blakes Bortles was the starting QB on a team that came close to upsetting the Pats to get into the SB. The Vikings made a run to the NFC championships with a walking sheet of glass in Bradford, and a career backup in Keenum -

Not necessarily, unless your just going by the round. A team in the top 10 this year may be able to put something together that the Giants deem to be a better offer cause they can move down and stay in the top 10. Some make look at this years draft and say that the quality of player available at 22 could compare similar to what they could get in the top half of the 2nd round so even though the pick is in round 1, it may not be all that much more desirable then a 2nd rounder in the top 10. -
Drafting a QB Myths and Facts
apuszczalowski replied to Batman1876's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could probably come to some of those conclusions for every position, the higher the player is drafted the more likely of a success they will be, cause usually the better players get drafted early. The problem here is that it doesn't matter if they are drafted in the top 10 or top 100, if they aren't good they won't be successful. There may be a bunch of good prospects available this year, but are these guys true franchise guys or just the best of whats available this year? Every year QBs get drafted earlier then they should because teams are desperate to try and get one. Would everyone here be willing to do whatever it takes to move up to #2 so they could draft Jameis Winston? or Trubisky? Or Marriotta? Does anyone see those guys as 10-15 year franchise starters? Every year there are guys who are viewed as potential franchise QBs that flop. Bradford, Kaepernick, Smith, Were #1 overall picks that were supposed to be franchise guys, RGIII was supposed to be another franchise guy that was talked about as a potential #1st overall. He looked really good in his first year then flopped out of the league. Thats why it may still be early to be praising the Rams, Texans, and Eagles for finding their franchise guy. Its understandable that everyone wants a franchise elite QB, but you can't get one (no matter where you move up to draft from) if there isn't one there. There would be no arguements from anyone about moving up if there was a clear cut elite franchise guy available, but right now you can't find anyone who can even agree on the ranking of the top 4-5 guys this year. -

Very few are looking to just patch the QB position, they are just willing to settle on the 4th-6th rated QB in this draft without having to move down None of the QBs in this draft are quaranteed franchise guys, yet theres a very large group here that are willing to give up picks as if they were. McCarron and say Jackson or Rudolph going into next year as starters plus another 3-5 rookies in the first 3 rounds at other positions of need should give the Bills a chance at much more improved Team over Taking one of the top 3 Qbs and not much else. -
nah, he'll just end up dropping it....

First Round QB Busts since 2000
apuszczalowski replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have to remember that if what you are saying doesn't fit the narrative or agenda of what the fan wants or believes, you can't count it because it's an outlier or a fluke, or whatever. But if it fits what they want it's fact. Bills dont have a franchise QB, fans want one cause the belief is you cant be successful if you dont have one, so now all the top guys in this draft are cant miss elite guys that you do whatever it takes to get one cause then your a perennial contender. -
Next years picks are valued lower cause of 2 simple reasons 1. You have to wait til next season to get something in return (unless you can flip it) 2. You have no idea where that pick will ultimately be. How many assumed all last off-season the Bills were going to be I the Browns situation with 2 top 10 picks this year? No One thought they were going to end up with 2 picks in the bottom 3rd of the draft

Dan Patrick: Bills have called Browns about #1 pick
apuszczalowski replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They probably did talk, and I would be surprised to here the Bills have called about almost all the picks ahead of them to gauge what they are valued at. This reminds me of the Toronto Blue Jays former GM Alex Anthapolous used to do. He would come out and say that he would call around on just about anybody to gauge what the market values are and find out who and what might be available. Most times there was no serious interest or details of trades worked out, but it gave them knowledge of what it might take or what guys are being valued at in case they did want to make a move. -
Again, if he said that the Bills should do whatever is necessary to get to the top to get one of the QBs cause they are worth it, everyone would be talking about his genius. Say something opposite what they want to hear and he is an old senile coot who has no idea what he is talking about and the games past him by, and he was never that great anyway......

You can't judge last year's move by moves made this year. This is like comparing apples and potatoes. Different teams, different players, situations, needs, evaluations, etc. The demand was different last year to this year. I would say the deal worked out well for both teams. The Chiefs got the player they wanted, the Bills also got the player they wanted and additional picks

First Round QB Busts since 2000
apuszczalowski replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whenever it doesn't suit your out the boards narrative it's an outlier and doesn't count. The Bills have drafted 1st round And before and it didn't work out. They have gone with retreads and it didn't work out, they have also gone with under the radar later picks and it hasn't worked out. For whatever reason, and it's not always just the QB, they have been mediocre at best for a long time. They have had poor coaching as part of the cause, they have had times where the offence was actually good and the defence held them back, and other times where the defence was great and the offence was bad. Some of the better And in the league were not top of the draft 1st rounder (Wilson, Brees, Brady, Prescott, everyone's new favorite Garapolo, Cousins). Theres also guys taken near the top that i doubt anyone would be willing to trade the boatload of picks they want to move in this draft for (Winston, Marriotta, Bortles, Tannehill, Smith) No One can even decide who the best QB is in this draft, not because they are all so great, but because they all have some big flaws. That's why people have said this draft is more quantity over quality for QBs. Theres also lot of decent/good ones, just not elite ones. Just because everyone thinks the Bills have to have a elite one doesn't mean that if the Bills run out and throw a ton of picks out to move up and get one they will have some elite franchise starter for the next 10-15 years. It may be wiser to stay put and take the 5th best guy in the draft and save the rest of the picks to build up around them rather then blow a ton of picks hoping that the guy they chose may turn out to be the next elite QB. If the QBs in this draft where viewed as beimg the next Aaron Rodgers/Brees/Manning(s)/Brady elite QB, there would be almost no on arguing not to spend whatever it takes to get one. -
Its not even really house money, the Bills had to give up valuable assets to get those picks. Those picks weren't just found or given to them just because One of those picks involved giving up the only experienced QB on the roster Another pick cost them a valuable starting OT (when healthy) to improve an existing pick Another pick cost them the chance to already have that possible franchise QB on their roster in order to move down to a lower spot Another Pick cost them Sammy Watkins Another pick cost them Ron Darby Another pick cost them Marcel Dareus If you bought a $50k dollar car a couple of years ago and sold it no for $20k that you are going to use to buy something else with, say a house. Do you consider that House money or are you now willing to overpay for the house because you need a place to live and you want a new one? Even then, thats your opinion, you could probably find just as many people that agree with you saying that Darnold is the top guy who will say Rosen is the top guy, and probably just as many who might say Allen or Mayfield are the best guys available. No one is sure who is the top guy or the best one. All they know is that there are anywhere between 4-6 good ones, but no one that is a sure thing top pick.

Bills Sign Newhouse and Bodine
apuszczalowski replied to NewEraBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Weren't these guys rated worse then Ducasse last year and he was the whipping boy everyone wanted to chase out of here cause they didn't think he was good. Now everyones happy they sign 2 of the lowest graded linemen from last season, even if its only to be a backup? -
They do look like they could be brothers, or atleast cousins....

First Round QB Busts since 2000
apuszczalowski replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, because if you just trade up a lot of picks to the top of the draft for a QB you automatically no longer suck I never said I knew the outcome, but are any of these top 4 QBs being projected to be the next Brady, Brees, Luck or Manning? Odds are they are closer to being the next Winston or Marriotta, guys who are good players, but not can't miss gotta have franchise guys that guarantee you championships.... You don't need to have an elite Franchise Qb to be good/great if you can build a great team around them. Foles won the Eagles a SB, yes Wentz got them to the playoffs, but Foles had to step in and take it the rest of the way to beat one of the best defences and one of the best teams in the league. Blake Bortles and Tyrod Taylor were QBs for teams that made the playoffs while Matt Stafford, Phillip Rivers, Russell Wilson and Dak Prescott sat watching the playoffs from their TVs at home. -
I don't think they have such a time crunch to get one from TP I know its popular to believe that TP gave the new guys an ultimatum to obtain a franchise QB, but its also likely that after last season he saw what they were able to do with the roster they had and TP told them to do what they are doing and as long as the team continues to look like its getting better they are safe and will have whatever assetts they need to do what they need to. For all we know they have a decent franchise Qb in McCaron. The Browns were willing to give up a couple high picks for him at the deadline
