Ralph Wilson Stadium to be Smoke Free
Spiderweb replied to Realist's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you are so chosen to be the leader of human rights, including habits and practices you don't like, then you must be the one who is spoken of as, "he who is without fault". -
Can't disagree that Paup still managed quite an accomplishment with 17.5 sacks. Yet, I also have to agree that Bruce Smith was to one who drew the double teams, who the opposition focused upon, and because of his greatness it led to far more opportunity for Paup than if Smith wasn't lined up opposite him. I recall a fairly sizable quantity of Paup's sacks coming from beating a TE and/or a back. Smith was the man and Paup benefited.. "Bad things, man, bad things" (RIP- D. Hopper)

The plan was simple, 2010 was a year the Bills weren't going to be immediately competitive, but a year of transition. During the year a number of players were picked up off waivers and practice squads. Urbick looked like a very good move until he got hurt. Reinhart showed some meanness and ability. Chandler at TE may actually be a decent player (better than Stupar at least). Pears, while I'm no where near as high on him as Chan & Buddy seemed to be, was a big improvement over Cornell Green. Nix said it wasn't likely to happen that the rebuild would happen with a splash, but through hard work, and paying attention to who may be available. As the year played out, I liked what I saw. Yes, we still have a big ? at RT, but in this regard, I do believe we are heading into 2011 (if an agreement is reached) with a better set of possibilities. Offensively, if Fitz can be accurate on a more consistent basis, we should again be much improved, and I don't suspect that Nix & company will stop watching rosters, cuts, waivers, etc this year either. Progress may be slow, but I believe considerable progress is being made.

Robert James played back in the much more physical "bump & run" era. While he excelled no doubt in that era, his and others play led to the no contact after 5 yards rules. One can only guess if his style of play then could have transitioned into the play need for today's game. One things for sure though. He was truly outstanding and was an All-Pro in 73 & 74, after having been outstanding in 71 & 72.

Setting aside for the moment his character or lack thereof, OJ was the more devastating runner. He was the homerun hitter that Thurman wasn't. However, the poster above is sadly mistaken when he "claims" OJ had good hands hands. At best they were average, but when he did make a grab, what a run after the catch.. OJ couldn't (or wouldn't block). Yet as a pure runner, he was spectacular. One of the best ever. OJ's '73, '75, and '76 seasons were unbelievable, and yes, I watched his entire career with Buffalo. It's true that when OJ played, he was the guy every team keyed on when they played the Bills. Buffalo put together a great O-line for OJ, and early in Thomas' career the O-line in front of him was very impressive as well, yet after 92, Wil Woldford was gone, and John Davis was reduced to a one legged Guard, and in 93, Ballard left, Ritcher retired and the line in front of Thurman was no longer a quality line and his stats suffered for it. Who can forget the likes of Jerry Crafts, Corbin Lucina, etc, etc With all things considered, especially with the game played as it is today, Thurman was by far the more complete back. He had superior hands in comparison to OJ, far better blocker in blitz situations, and was an outstanding runner with deceptive power. Overall, I'd take Thurman because of his all around abilities and I can't separate the despicable scum bag OJ turned out to be from the player I watch in awe.

Sorry, but had the other owners listened to Wilson in 2006, they might not have had to opt out on the agreement in 2008. The lockout, while protecting Ralph along with the rest of the owners, would not have been needed. Just for once, maybe old Ralph was right. 50 years of having our Bills in Buffalo is worth gold in itself. He could have left many times over. Sure he was a meddling owner, at times cheap, and at times (believe it or not - 1990's) a bit too generous. His firing Polian will always be his number one mistake, yet to lay the lockout squarely on his (and other owners) is a bit misinformed. Again, had the other owners listened to him.......

“The people making the rules at the NFL are idiots”
Spiderweb replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To say there is no connection, is utterly ridiculous. The NFL (owners) clearly see the possible huge liability issues and while we may moan about attempts to protect players from serious injury, they are doing the right thing. Put'em back in the old leatherhead days and you'll see players making hits and tackling without the head/helmet being a weapon. Modern helmets and facemasks did more to increase the severity of injuries than prevent them in many ways. -
In agreeing with others, Reed (prior to the groin injury he suffered in 1995 against the freakin Jets) was just a phenomenal receiver, both in hands and in RAC. Moulds had some bright moments, but in the history of the Bills, Andre Reed is the greatest WR hands down and should already be in the HOF. He was one of the absolute best. Also, who can forget his second half performance in the Comeback Game....

Cornelius Bennett offers his opinions on lockout
Spiderweb replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty hard to negotiate in good faith when the plan for a lockout was laid two plus years ago, and that even when initially ruled against, the owners sought and received a stay in the lifting of the lockout. Yeah, the players are dead wrong.....(heavy sarcasm...) -
With respect to the Bills ownership, the only thing Trump could do to keep me happy is to walk away like he just did with his Presidential ambitions. The man is a turd, well shined (not polished), but a turd none the less.

If your intent is to name the 5 worst players from 2010, you failed miserably when you opened with Kelsay. I'm no fan of Kelsay's by any stretch of the imagination, but did you even watch the Bills in 2010? Once this team has players at DE and OLB that can take his job, we'll all be happy as it will mean the Bills are making progress., but there are more than 5 other Bills who deserved their jobs less than he.

would you want carson palmer for a mid round pick?
Spiderweb replied to tbonehawaii's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, most teams that would be interested may well be willing to give up a draft choice or two simply because if they don't, they may not get him in a FA scenario. Waiting isn't certain is it? -
Congrats to Talley !!!! Definitely a fan favorite in Buffalo. .....and congrats as well to "Earthquake".....

fan Forum With Roger Goodell
Spiderweb replied to Buffal0 Bill5's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Goodell is a spineless toad of a commissioner. Pete Rozelle wasn't flawless, but he was able to "lead" instead of just regurgitating the company (owners) line. Tagliabue paled in comparison with Rozelle as well, but even he may have been a better commissioner than Roger the dodger.......... -
The owners themselves poisoned the waters beginning in 2008 when they opted out of the agreement they signed two years before and then sought and received TV revenue in the event of a lockout, which they have sole control over. .............and you expect the NFLPA not to be upset? Cry poverty, but won't prove it? If it wasn't for the owners backing out on a deal they signed two years before under the ruse that they are being financial hurt and need relief, I'd tell the NFLPA, no you can't see the books, yet it was the owners themselves that made their financial positions as being in need of relief. So, OK, prove it or drop the ruse all together. The NFLPA's de-certification isn't a sham, and it's never been one. It was simply one of their few options in dealing with the hand the owners are dealt them, and it was an obvious choice to anyone who isn't totally blind. Physics would dictate that for every action, there will be an equal and opposite reaction and it was the NFLPA that was left to react when the owners opted out of the 2006 agreement and protected themselves financially from a lockout they control. The ball has always been in the owners court and they chose this path, and even planned for it years ago. With that said, maybe Ralph is 100% in that the deal was bad right from the beginning and the new breed owners refused to listen to him, or even ask him a question, yet they did the deal and it's up to them to show why it doesn't work, and not just demand a great leap of faith for the players to believe them.

I sincerely hope Carrington pushes Edwards for PT. I was not impressed with Edwards last year at all.
