They wont. And I guess nor should they as it seems to be an effective way of negotiating publicly and getting paid. I wonder if there is a second meaning we arent understanding. When Garrett says he wants to play for a contender, we all assume he means us, the Chiefs, etc. Maybe he's saying it to drive the point home to Cleveland'd FO that contenders usually keep top talent like him around and pay them handsomely? Who knows. Good for him on getting paid. Better him than Haslam pocketing it.

lol, all good. I am almost fully on the players' side of milking as much money as the can out of the league/owners. I try to balance that with what's good for my favorite team. But I dont blame any of these guys for maximizing their payout. This thread is also about laughing at ourselves. I know I get hyped when someone like Garrett comes out and says that. Just to be fooled once again!

Myles Garrett wants to play for a contender, ultimately signs $40M/yr with the Browns. DK Metcalf wants to play for a contender, ultimately signs $30M/yr with the Steelers who have no QB DeAndre Hopkins wanted out of Arizona so he could play for a contender, signed with the hapless Titans JJ Watt wasnt going back to Houston, had the Bills in a tizzy, signed with Arizona (thanks @Mark Vader) Feel free to add your own examples to the thread because I know there are others. We need to just stop even acknowledging that statement as potentially helping the Bills sign any big name FA. They're all just after the money. And I cant blame them for that, but cmon...

Josh Allen gets record contract extension $330 million

Right, they are very different and will look very different so dont use one to bash the other. -
Josh Allen gets record contract extension $330 million

Sure, but the point is dont use Josh's $55M/year deal to besmirch Cook for trying to get $45M TOTAL. -
Josh Allen gets record contract extension $330 million
DrDawkinstein replied to The 9 Isles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh Allen has already made, as of today, over $174M. Plus, likely another $50-100M in endorsement deals. So he is currently sitting on over a quarter billion dollars. He just signed another contract which will pay him an additional $330M. And still has the earning power as a face-of-the-league QB to earn millions in endorsement deals the rest of his life. He'll likely be paid close to $1Billion by the time he is 40. James Cook has made $4M, and has ONE shot at a big contract to live off of the rest of his life (and any generational money to pass down). At an average of 3-4 years for extensions, he's trying to get a $45M total deal. Josh earns more in 1 year than Cook will earn in his entire career. It makes sense one is giving a "discount" to "only" $55M/year, while the other is working any angle he can to earn that amount spread out across his entire career(life). -

2025 Annual Joe Marino Bills Mock Offseason
DrDawkinstein replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm pretty much counting on it. Especially because there is no one exciting in this year's draft. And it isnt just because we are picking late again. Last year I was pounding the table for DeJean, but could get just as excited over many of the WRs. Previous years we were in the late 20s I still had guys I knew from watching so much college ball that I could get excited for. This year it's a pile of shlubs. I'm sure some will turn out ok. But I wont be surprised if we (and the entire league/NFL fanbase) look back on this draft as a bunch of JAGs. -
2025 Annual Joe Marino Bills Mock Offseason
DrDawkinstein replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd LOVE for Beane to finally go BPA instead of "kinda BPA at position of need" for once. It would have given us DeJean over Coleman. Humphrey over Basham. Metcalf/Brown over Ford. And just about anyone left in the 2022 draft over Elam. Just pick the true ballplayers and figure out the rest another way. -
Browns ink Myles Garrett to an Extension
DrDawkinstein replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall
well that ***** sucks -
It's been explained numerous times, in detail, how there is no equivalency between Diggs and Cook. Diggs had a meltdown, on the HEAD COACH, in front of EVERYONE, on the first day of OTAs. Cook posted 3 emojis celebrating someone else's contract with not one single disparaging word towards the Bills. So just stop right there.
-
I'd agree that the scrubbing of Bills logos was most likely at the advisement of his agent. But I dont think his one comment posted deep in someone else's post and then 3 emoji posts is some well coordinated deep conspiracy business maneuver. Most likely just a typical 25 year old who is a bit bored on "summer" break.

I'm torn. If we need a backup to come in and just finish a game, or only start for 1-2 weeks, then I guess I see the need for a decent backup to keep our season alive. That said, I think we can absorb a couple losses and still make the playoffs, and even still win the division (in its current state). If JA17 was ever hit with a season ending injury, then I want the worst QB possible in there to tank the season and get us a top 10 (5) pick so we can load up for Josh's return.
-
I'm not convinced he doesnt come back on a majorly reduced contract. I think this is the Bills doing the HoF vet a favor and releasing him early to see if he can get more money somewhere else. And then if not, come on back at $5M.

So as a manager and supposed leader, you have an equally immature reaction, decide to pout in the corner and give the silent treatment, and risk your company's (team's) success because you want to be butthurt over a few emojis? Ignore your top talent because of a couple social media posts? I'd hope my leadership team would be above that, realize that the posts mean nothing, not let their emotions get the best of them, and stay on track with our top priorities.

Von Miller & Bills trying to agree on contract?
DrDawkinstein replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
ok, come back to bed -
Fair enough, I agree with most of your first paragraph. The social media stuff is the way it is nowadays. He isnt the first to do it, and wont be the last. And he wont be the first to do it and still get a big contract. Fans are best off just ignoring it since it simply does not matter. My whole point is, I dont think these other guys not making any noise has anything to do with them getting extensions. If anything, it's more that none of them are on the same level as Cook and are just happy to be getting any 2nd contract in the NFL whatsoever. They're all mid-tier players. Cook is a top 5 (3?) RB in a league that has recently seen a resurgence in RBs. IMO, getting Cook re-signed is where Beane makes his actual money. Anyone can get guys like Bernard or Shakir to sign a $12M/yr deal. Keeping top talent like Cook is what we really need to see.

It blows my mind how triggered some of you supposedly grown ass men get by a few social media comments. My daughter and her friends dont even have this much drama. Diggs was having huge blowouts with the Head Coach, in front of everyone, on the first day of OTAs. Cook posted 3 emojis in comments this week. They are not the same. If he gets traded, it has nothing to do with social media. The offer he received from the Bills has nothing to do with social media. Beane has his number. Social media posts do not change that number.

The Worthy Trade Keeps Looking Worse and Worse
DrDawkinstein replied to Bills Costa Rica's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's a sweet sentiment, but not how it works at all. It's more a matter of not being able to cut him without it costing the team more. Plus he is a decent vet at a priority position. That's it. It's all business.
