I can't believe the Cincy game
Greybeard replied to Kurt Warner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought the same thing at the time but Palmer has looked like that all season. IMO, he is the reason for their poor season. If he did it on purpose, he should be worried they would use the high pick to draft his replacement. -
The Official Gameday Thread: Patriots* at the Bills
Greybeard replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How many drops has he had today? -
I find in hard to believe a new stadium will be built anywhere in WNY, especially in this economy.

If you don't like his posts, don't read them. I always appreciate when some takes the effort to compile data. Edwards Arm put more effort into that post than most modern day sports writers put into their articles. Edwards Arm

Bills/Bears game not on TV in Syracuse area this weekend?
Greybeard replied to Metal Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not sure of name of the place, maybe Captains Quarters, the hotel on the east side of the river, shows just about every NFL game, "When asked." I watched a blacked out game there last year as the only Bills fan. -
Bills/Bears game not on TV in Syracuse area this weekend?
Greybeard replied to Metal Man's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think you get the situation at all. Having Fox/Syr not show the Giants this weekend is equivalent to having CBS/Syr drop the Bills to show a Giant game. Imagine what the phone at the station does. Next season when the local sporting apparel stores stock up at the start of the season, go in and tell me what teams have the most merchandise on the shelves. It is the Giants by far. They stock it because it sells. Or next time you go to a mall, count the merchandise by team. There are times I don't think the Bills finish 4th in the count. I would think Bills fans have a bigger concern. When I moved to Syracuse in the early 70's, the Bills just were not on. It was the Giants on one channel and the Jets on the other. I don't think this really changed until the 80's. They keep sucking and I view this as a real possibility again. Lastly, although networks never seem to go against their fan base, I believe once during the glory days of the early 90's, the Bills were being televised by the NFL network because the NFC team was visiting Buffalo and the Giants were also on the NFL network at the same time. The Giants were still on the local NFC station but I believe the local AFC affiliate cut a deal to show the Bills. Definitely would have been a win-win for both stations. And I only remember this happening once, assuming I remember correctly. -

They would never skip a Giants game for a Bills game. There are probably more Giant fans in Syracuse than Buffalo fans. Guess it is time to find a bar. -
It seemed that the Ravens blitzed less than what we normally see. I don't know if this is fact or just a false impression I have.

It appears a few fans don't know the Kemp story. While Kemp was on waivers, it was SD position that as soon as Kemp recovered from an injury, he would again be their #1 QB. SD was really pissed at Buffalo for taking Kemp. They thought there was a gentleman's agreement that if a guy was injured and waived, no one would claim him. I guess the Bills thought otherwise. So putting Kemp in this conversation is without merit as to waivers although he did bounce around the NFL before the AFL was formed. I believe this is the correct story, if anyone knows otherwise, they can elaborate.

For all you veteran Bills fan...
Greybeard replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice job. I was going to just say all the years between Lou Saban 1 and Lou Saban 2. I still miss the guy. It was a shame he wasn't coach in the 90's. We would have had at least one SB win. Seems like the Bills were top 3 in the draft every year back then. -
The general impression I have over the life of the Bills, is that often when the Jets or the Bills play each other, and one of the teams is doing well, the team doing well pulls a choker. I said impression because I didn't search out the exact frequency, but I remember several times, the stronger team choked when the two teams meet. It may not be this week though because I seem to recall it happens more often when the stronger team is at home. Not surprisingly, this usually happens when the stronger team is way over confident and they manage a lot of turnovers.

LAMP - Hung out with John Fina for a bit last night
Greybeard replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fina was the subject of much criticism at TBD during his playing days. If it was deserved or not was in the eyes of the individual posters. -
I totally agree with your above statement. It was your statement that Nix had to fight with the bean counters to decided who he was going to keep that I disgreed with. Since he was obviously picking cheaper guys, it must have been because he liked them, not because he was told to. I couldn't find the sarcasm font for the part of my statement the you highlighted but sarcasm was intended. I am not one of the posters who thinks Ralph always does things on the cheap. Perhaps misguided at times but I think the cheapness was driven out of Ralph by the time the Kelly Bills were born.

Nix is keeping free agents and cutting Vets. Sounds more like he's working with the bean counters. Of course it is not my point that Nix is being cheap, only that, that part of your post is not accurate.

Yet Another Pre Season Ranking
Greybeard replied to Ghost of Rob Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure way to a job at ESPN, crap a little bit extra on the Bills. -
I don't know who you favor, but based on that statement you must also want to get rid of Fitz.

10 greatest players of all time...
Greybeard replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem with this thread is some interpret it as best physical skills and some view it as what they did against their peers. Face it, the modern athlete is beyond anything that came before, so the present has an advantage. However, you can really only judge an athlete against his peers, because his/her peers should be the best at what they do at the time. Using that criteria, Babe Ruth was far beyond his peers. And this may be in any sport. Personally, putting Bonds in the conversation is a joke. There are players who were not drug enhanced that had great careers that would serve as better examples. Griffey would be a modern one. But if I was to make an argument against Ruth, the player that comes next would be Ted Williams. Football wise, I would have thought Barry Sanders deserves consideration. Yes I know not great stats. But what running back had a career as good playing with a team that bad. IMO, put him on the Bills instead of OJ and he gains 20 to 50% more yards. If you consider track and field, Jim Thorpe and Jesse Owens were far ahead of their competition. Both all time great athletes. Put them in modern competition, and they don't even get invited. Certainly doesn't diminish what they accomplished. -
Tom Cousineau's side of the story.
Greybeard replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And that was one of the main reasons for the Bills success in the 90's. If Kelly would have immediately signed with the Bills, they would have been mediocre instead of dam awful. They then would have never been able to accumulate the draft choices they did. Being mediocre probably meant a slim chance of escaping mediocrity. This is a proven formula for success. If your going to suck, make sure you are the worst, if your fans can handle it. This works especially well in Hockey. -

The teams from the Big East that lost early would have made the tourney if they were from some other conferences. They were good enough. Several years ago the ACC had the same type of conference and most of their teams went out early also. Perhaps they beat the hell out of each other all year or perhaps they think they don't have to get up for the game. Whatever, I am sure in the future conferences will again dominate the seeds, we will see when one of them actually delivers. -

Boeheim new exactly what he had coming this year at the end of last year and didn't want Harris or Devendorf to screw it up. He booted them as politely as he could. -
Jairus Byrd finalist for Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award
Greybeard replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So do the people that run voting Bots. I would bet the guy from GB wins. Between the number of fans they have and the number who run bot programs, I would say the odds are good. I would have thought Pepsi would know better. They should have talked to Campbell soup. PS I voted 10 times for Byrd anyway. -
Who is the GREATEST Bill of All-Time ??
Greybeard replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thank You. On a pound for pound basis, I would argue Robert James. It is a shame you have to play on a winner to get recognition. Pound for pound, Chandler's value is also right up there.
