  1. Seems rather odd to me and I am someone sympathetic to prayer and the role of religion in the public square. If a local church wants to include someone in their offering of prayer, that is certainly a valid expression of care and concern. Making some kind of publicized event of it goes beyond that and I suspect that is where some of the suspicion and feeling that something is not quite right is coming from.
  2. Poster read the thread title and made a hasty and presumptuous conclusion.
  3. No doubt. When Napoleon's armies were on the march, there were camp followers of dubious merit. Nonetheless, moral acuity requires the ability to distinguish the fine points of an individual case and calibrate judgment accordingly.
  4. Yes, that is what I believe, but you ought to know one has to say these things obliquely because folks are easily offended and often consider moral traditions fascist impositions. I write essays that are more forthright in a different venue. Besides, reality is complex and one should promote the ethical as much as possible even when it falls short of perfection.
  5. Now they've got to draft him.
  6. Damn, I didn't even set my DVR yet.
  7. Can't send UPL to Rochester without passing through waivers. Someone would claim him. You either keep him on the big club or trade him. Otherwise, you lose him for nothing.
  8. I think they like Mittelstadt. I'd be surprised if he is moved. I also like who he has become. I think he's a glue guy that can play anywhere from third line up. They might move Krebs, but I suspect he gets next year to see where he develops. VO is going to be moved as part of a package to upgrade D. I'd rather move on from both Z and Okposo, but I think the Sabres value them as leaders and it wouldn't surprise me if at least one of them is back. Rumor on another site is that neither Comrie or UPL is coming back. I would like to bring in a vet like Varlamov to pair with Levi. Same source claims defensive system will be overhauled and new coaches brought in. (Fella is supposed to be related to KA.) Any semblance of system would be a welcome addition.
  9. I need a hybrid sad and angry emoji. That would make me sangry.
  10. Both solid choices. Of the top 3 LBS, Trenton Simpson is the one I like best, though I hope they make a play for offensive help. Lots of folks griping about Addison, but I'd be happy if he fell to 27. I prefer Washington if you are trading up for TE, btw, but LaPorta is one of the top 4 and I'd be good with any of them.
  11. I haven't really spent time looking at centers. One of the fellas who seems to be insightful about the oline said Tippmann was a young Morse. I think John Michael Schmitz is the type you are looking for. I think he goes pretty early second.
  12. I agree entirely with the need to stock the Oline. I like Bergeron in the second. I sorta like Steen and a few other project OTs later on. I'm not really seeing a potential LT in the bunch. It's possible Bates is next C. If you want a Morse clone, apparently Joe Tippman is the fella. I think you have to take him at 59.
  13. The problem is who is even a possible candidate at 27 for potential LT? I'd love to follow your plan, but I don't see it.
  14. So I take it your avatar pic is a lie and you really look like this.
  15. I had both Bergeron and Washington slotted as fellas I would like in the second. If you want Washington, you'd have to trade up from 59. The way the mocks have played out, I've tilted Washington towards an outside consideration at 27. What I fear is that the two guards signed in FA are going to be the only substantial investment thrown at improving the oline and that Beane is counting on Brown playing much better. That's crazy talk, imo, and if that's his gambit and it doesn't work, he'll deserve all the grief that comes his way.
  16. The question is whether or not there will be an olineman or wr that merits the pick at 27. Does Washington help the blocking more than an OL prospect that likely doesn't see the field because he's not a day one starter? WR group is bad. I don't really like Hyatt at 27. If you end up with Washington and Matthew Bergeron in the second that would palpably help the oline imo. I am skeptical that Beane will spend the first two picks on offense, however.
  17. Mayer may be the best traditional TE out there. Kincaid is a better receiving threat. Washington is a monster blocker.
  18. I'm not sure how much room there is to grow as an offensive threat. He helps the oline and blocking immediately and that's no small thing. He's also a RZ threat out of the box.
  19. Not a chance he gets to 59.
  20. Maybe we should be thinking about this fella?
  21. I wouldn't hate it. Was hoping to get him in the second with a trade up. You might consider a trade back from 27. Given the nature of this draft, I think maybe you stick at 27 and take the fella. The LB folks are going to riot. I would rather trade up for Kincaid, btw. He's not a blocker and Washington is great there, but Kincaid is a threat all over the field.
  22. Semantics is all fun and games until money is involved. You're going to scare @HOUSE. I don't think he even gambles with monopoly money.
  23. I understand. I think you are underrating where Quinn is now and he is going to get better. I think he is already considered core by KA and the coaching staff. Peterka is not there yet. I just believe he is likely to get there. Jost is a try hard bottom six who is probably right now your 13th forward. He may or may not be back. I like Krebs. He needs to get stronger and continue to develop. I think he can be a pesky bottom six player. I don't see his ceiling as core, however. I like him as 4C that could grow into a 3C. VO is the most probable piece to be moved in a package for a top 4D. There are a lot of pretty good UFA D this year as well. Wouldn't shock me to see either the 2023 1st or 2024 1st included in a trade to get immediate help. It's a crucial offseason -- and the sheer number of promising forwards in the system means they will have to evaluate quicker. Otherwise, teams will lowball KA in trades knowing he can't find a spot for everyone. My guess is they keep Girgs and Okposo retires, but it's not impossible that both are back. I'd like to see Rousek get a shot and that won't happen if they bring both back. I am guessing Savoie makes the team and Kulich is an early call up from Rochester.
  24. If the rumors that Beane is looking to trade up have any merit, I think it would be for an offensive playmaker. I think it should be Kincaid, but I surmise he might go up for Addison or even Johnston if they want to gamble on a boom or bust pick. If they stay where they are and everything plays out as speculated, I would rather take Mayer but I concur with the probability that they take Mazi Smith. (Not my favorite, but if they are going D, he's not a bad choice.)
