Sir, no one is saying coaching didn’t matter. I understand you spent some time to diagnose a play and made a thread to allow yourself to explain your diagnosis. Good job, honestly. All I’m saying is the players themselves are saying the play called didn’t work so they “made a play”. If the play was designed for everything to happen the way it did, as you suggest the line play proves, it isn’t confirmed by the players describing what happened. But as others have pointed out in your thread, the Bills are a well-coached and disciplined team and that was a huge factor in the win.

This is what’s so interesting and frustrating about team sports in general. There seems to be times when a team just doesn’t have it and everything is a battle every play. Those usually end in big losses. Then there are the days when that momentum swings and suddenly the tide turns from one team to the other and it’s a tsunami. The challenge was dumb, but I don’t blame McDermott. He has John Parry to make those recommendations and I assume McDermott followed John’s advice.

Other than that play, Josh was 11 for 29 yards, so they were doing a good job of containing him. Everyone in the stadium wanted and expected Josh to take that play himself, except the Chiefs.

The coaching issue in that scenario is why didn’t KC have a spy on Josh. Made no sense, unless Spags had the Bills minus the points.
