  1. Bingo. He's right, we're awful in the fantasy department, other than perhaps the team defense stat. Which is why his rant is so off the mark. He ignores the likely strength of the team, as it doesn't fit his fantasy perspective. I also agree with others that our O-line may not have taken as much of a hit as portrayed. I don't see playoffs this year, more like the 6-8 win range. But it will be fun to watch the team grow.
  2. Me too. I think they are set up to read and react. They will know what it takes to move to 2, 4 or whatever, and if the QB they want is there, they'll do the draft day trade. Otherwise, it's plan B - linebacker at 12, QB later.
  3. Well, I really enjoyed that. I love it when a nice read can take you back to your ten year old self visiting grandma in the early 1970s. Now all I need is the odor of a nearby smelting plant and the memory will be complete.
  4. I think you may be right about Kiko, but for different reasons. I think you have to evaluate the value of the pick, not the person picked (plus doing that adds a level of complexity that is perfect for message boards like this). So, Kiko's pick inherits the value the Bills as an organization received for that pick, in this case, McCoy's contribution to the organization has to be factored in. Now, here, because Whaley engineered the trade, he should get credit for the increase in the value of the pick that McCoy brings, not Nix, hence my opening sentence. There is also the matter of the trade-down that got us the pick, which although under Nix, has Whaley's fingerprints all over it.
  5. Moorman is a no-brainer. Then, Fred - the heart and soul of the offense. Normally, you would say Kyle for the defense, but if you strictly enforce the playoff rule, Schobel. And, I would not discount including Fitz as representative of a certain heart like Fred and Kyle, and good guy nature (southtown BBQs), but just not good enough on the field aspect about the drought. He came as a career backup without the expectation of franchise savior that RJ, JP, Trent and later EJ "allegedly" brought, but arguably played better than expected and better than all of them, received a contract he didn't deserve, but then received a shafting that he didn't deserve. Everything about his presence in Buffalo reeks of a franchise that didn't have a clue. A perfect representative of those years.
  6. Sorry, aside from the Andre Reed impression he does on the opening play, the 31 yard juggled catch down the sideline tells you Sammy is not soft. He knows he's got two defenders in a position to send him into the stands, but focuses on the ball the entire time to bring it in.
  7. I mean seriously. There was only ever one response to the post and 26CornerBlitz nailed it immediately. People need to chill.
  8. This. The no-huddle really worked for us, but I'd take the "possibly" slight downgrade in Marino running that offense for the arm and accuracy he brings (and you can always adjust the offense). Reed, Thurman, throw in Lofton for the long ball, scary. Put it this way, it has been noted above that Jim beat Dan consistently, but those wins were never easy and all Dan had were two sprinters on the outside. He made a lot out of what he was given, which wasn't much.
  9. I too sat in the scoreboard end zone that day, instead of my usual seat in I-3. Do you remember the sole Oilers fan about three rows up from the field making a complete fool of himself early into the 3rd quarter. He was such a jerk we had to work hard to control our rising anger, then suddenly all our focus was directed elsewhere (the field). After the game, with big smiles, all ten of us made a point to extend "great game" greetings to the guy. It made the comeback all the more enjoyable.
  10. Maybe having someone used to coaching wide receivers isn't a bad idea. Hey Tyrod - throw him open!
  11. We are an emotional bunch. It's more fun that way...
  12. This was my view as well. He had his usual couple of overthrows and moments of indecision, but teased us with a couple of really nice throws and frustrated the D with his mobility.
  13. As I was watching today's game, noting that none of Whaley's top picks were playing, Sammy, Sammy and Shaq (I've always felt that although Doug probably picked which QB we took in 2013, Buddy dictated that it would be a QB - well, I just read Ed's post above before I hit post and I see he feels the same), and I couldn't help but marvel at the team he has constructed despite not having his own 1st round picks on the field. Then I thought of this thread. C'mon Man!
  14. Actually, because the assumption of risk doctrine contains a knowledge element, Whaley's comments could be used as a defense in any suit against the NFL...
  15. I agree with everything J from H says. Two keys to Rex's front seven. A third piece to the front seven that can have a role now and maybe a big role in the future. Support in the run game, a speedster at 200 lbs and I agree that there were no outstanding QBs this year, so with what is really a 5th (given the number) we take a flyer on a QB that might have an upside. This was an excellent draft.
  16. November 28, 1993. Arrowhead Stadium. Stupid, stupid tomahawk chant. Hate the Chiefs. ... of course, we returned the favor two months later at home, absolutely hilarious. But I still hate the Chiefs.
  17. There are 32 GMs. Professional suicide to lie to one of them.
  18. I've always thought that we had the better team than the Giants and Redskins, but they had the better coaches. As for the Cowboys, they were the new, younger Bills. With better play (no look-out block from House), we might have nicked the first one. By the second, the Cowboys were in the ascendancy. That would have been a glorious time. Win three and hand the reigns over to the Cowboys. Oh well.
  19. I've never had hostility toward the Jets, probably because we've enjoyed more of a mixed bag against them over the years and I have a ton of friends who are Jets fans. Growing up in the 70s, I grew to despise Miami and the last decade I've grown to despise New England for the same reason - total futility against those franchises. Plus, I can't stand the Colts. 1. Middle of the night move similar to what we experienced with the Braves; 2. the total BS contract offer to Will Wilford; 3. Having one of the best QBs of all time, laying down for a year and getting another (that we all drooled over for four years). I don't care if they never win another game again.
