What if the trade up to #12 is just a ruse?

I do marvel at all the possibilities this time of the year, it’s my favorite part! Lol! -
What if the trade up to #12 is just a ruse?

I agree that it’s to move up further and grab a top QB prospect but I love being surprised. A small trade back for big compensation and then make a trade for Foles where we still keep our 1st rd picks. Yeah, thst’s The ticket! Lol! Go Bills! -
Meaning that it’s not to trade up even further for a QB. What if they did it for a twofold reason, shedding Cordy and his contract and then move back a bit to gather more current and/or future draft picks? Even with a small trade back the Bills still might be in a position to take a QB AND grab more draft picks. Hey, so far Beane has been surprising a lot of people since here, exceeding average expectations. I wouldn’t be hating on something like this if we were to get even more prime picks.

After trading with the Giants the Bills take
Tipster19 replied to mead107's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After the Cordy trade today I thought that maybe it will be Darnold but I just heard Gil Brandt about 30 minutes ago on Sirius Radio predict Rosen, saying that nobody spins the ball better than him. Seeing that The Godfather of Football knows a hell of a lot more about football than me I’ll go with Rosen. Rosen it is! Go Bills! -

Welcome aboard! Thanks for what you do for all of us. Hopefully we are rounding the corner and finally get this franchise stabilized. Go Bills! -
With more cap space we could now become players for G Andrew Norwell. Having Dawkins LT, Incognito LG, Groy C?, Norwell for RG would leave the RT position the biggest question mark on that OL. RT could also be addressed a little later in the draft vs any of those other positions. Other than Incognito we would also be a lot younger across that line. Go Bills!

There’s rumblings that Baltimore might be in the QB market. It may not be in the 1st rd but then again who knows if some of these QB prospects start to slide. The Ravens pick at 16 and that is just a touch outside of some of these projections for the top tier QBs. I wrote a post about FAs and the draft earlier and now I’m going to speculate on another aspect that the Bills could employ. I’m not too thrilled that if we trade up for a QB the cost would wipe out a lot of our resources (draft picks). Why couldn’t making a trade come into play so we can keep some of our higher level picks? Flacco’s contact is pretty reasonable compared to today’s market. Restructuring is always a possibility as well. Hypothetically speaking what if Tyrod was involved in a trade scenario with Baltimore? He came from there and if Lamar Jackson were to come into play for the Ravens and they were interested in Jackson then all the more Taylor would be a great bridge QB for them, especially after we pay the 6M roster bonus to him. The cost of draft picks in a scenario like that would really help keep the cost of draft picks down. Anyways who knows what is really going to happen but it’s entertaining to have some food for thought. At this point anything is possible until proven otherwise. Go Bills!

1. First off the QB position isn’t our only need. There’s several positions that are either aged or totally lacking of top caliber talent. Plus the cost of moving up in the draft would not only gut this year’s picks but would more than likely tap into some of next year’s as well. 2. How many times has it been stated that the best way to build a roster is through the draft. A team can’t do it without and/or minimal picks. 3. It appears that we are plugging holes with FAs, especially with prove it type contracts. Here’s the thing though, don’t lose sight that these will become holes to fill in the near future (2019?). That is why it’s important to retain our current top draft picks and use them on up and coming players with cap friendly contracts. The holes that Beane is filling today are holes that going to be filled tomorrow so to speak. Don’t be surprised that these are going to be the same positions that we draft for. We need better contracts with younger players and this is how you do it. 4. I would like to see us to keep on following this blueprint of plug and play veterans that give us roster depth for the time being until we can get through these next 2 years (2018 and 2019). Furthermore I think that the Bills should use this philosophy also in securing a QB (Keenum?) that replaces Tyrod. 5. To elaborate more on the contract mindset just look at our DT position as an example. I’m paraphrasing here so bear with me, my numbers may not be completely accurate but this is really more about making a point. An aging Kyle Williams is still up in the air and we have 1, possibly 2 unproven DTs on the current roster. If I’m not mistaken Ndamukong Suh is going to count something like 26M towards Miami’s cap. The Rams’ Aaron Donald is up for a new contract, hence the Rams trading off some of their top defensive players (Alec Ogletree and Robert Quinn). They are prioritizing, creating cap space for re-signing and retaining some of their current players at other positions, Donald, Watkins etc etc. The Bills can’t afford contracts like Suh’s and soon to be re-signed Donald’s. Some of the reason for Dareus being traded was due to his absorbent contract, it was way out of whack. In closing I want to point out one last thing. Beane inherited the current affairs, he didn’t create it. It’s going to take some time to turn things around and balance not only the caliber of player but also the caliber of their contracts. It’s a business and our books are in somewhat of a shamble. We haven’t had a real GM in God knows how long, it seems like it has been run by a committee for almost as long as I can remember. Now I don’t know how good of a GM Beane is or if he’s the right guy but at least this administration/front office is finally getting structured the proper way. With all this being said I can hardly wait to see what the Bills are going to do in free agency and the upcoming daft! Go Bills!

Well, the Bills are well underway in free agency
Tipster19 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not trying to bump my own thread, I just don’t want to start another one but speaking of FAs I’m fully expecting the DT position to be heavily addressed during free agency. We have next to nothing under contract. Personally I’d love to see the Bills obtain Poe and while that could happen I also think that it won’t stop there. DT Star Lotulelei makes too much sense and I would be shocked if he isn’t signed. Here’s an interesting article that expands on our situation much better than I ever could. http://buffalonews.com/2018/03/06/free-agent-focus-bills-could-use-a-star-at-defensive-tackle/ -

Absolutely. If the Bills can get him then Keenum is our guy. -

I have a hunch that Keenum isn’t gonna get a huge contract and if the Bills were to pursue him I bet that they could get him for a very reasonable contract. I can’t wait to see what happens in this QB carousel. -

I have a question that I probably should have added to the post. Would you be alright if the Bills signed a few 1 rentals this year? Players who are looking to improve their stock but not commit to long term just yet like what Alshon Jeffery did last year? -
I was literally debating posting and then I refreshed the page and then walla all of a sudden we signed Ivory! Matter of fact I was actually looking at a list of all the teams’ FAs. I believe and firmly expect this to continue, first Vontae Davis and now Ivory. The Bills will be very active in free agency in filling in holes and reinforcing depth. DT Dontari Poe, G Jahri Evans, WR Donte Moncrief and LB Dannell Ellerbe would be FA targets that I would love to see the Bills get once free agency opens up. Players like these would certainly make our roster more solidified and our draft picks more effective imo.

Would you trade Hughes+picks to Giants for 2nd?
Tipster19 replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This. We don’t need to create ANOTHER need on this team. We already unexpectedly need a C and more than likely a MLB. -
Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson, food for thought.
Tipster19 posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thinking of a player like Quenton Nelson brought up a question to my mind. Would you be willing to trade both 1st rd picks, and possibly a little bit more, for a player that you thought would be a future HOFer, regardless of position? To add to that, a position that was not of need? I would if it was a slam dunk kind of player. These questions brought Quenton Nelson to mind. We actually do have a need for an OG/OL that looks to be a once in a lifetime player. Incognito is long in tooth and we don’t have anyone else currently on the roster that remotely resembles a big time OL. In reflection I would give this some serious thought. We could have one nasty OL with a player of this caliber. If the Bills were to retain Cordy, our OL would consist with Dawkins LT, Incognito LG, Groy C, Nelson RG and Glenn RT. Now that Beane and McDermott have fully committed to Shady imagine what kind of wonders he could do behind an OL like this. Grabbing a FA QB (Keenum?) or even using Taylor as a serviceable QB could work. Hey, the Ravens with Trent Dilfer and the Buccaneers with Brad Johnson proved that teams can win, even Super Bowls, with game managers at the QB position. Using the rest of our early rd picks, our 2 2nd rd and our 3rd rd picks, for defense with some key FAs sprinkled in would make this a solid roster. On offense if the Bills could retain WR Jordan Matthews and grab a fly pattern type WR like FA Tavon Austin, or players like them, would make our offense more than potent. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/01/quenton-nelson-could-become-a-top-pick-despite-his-position/ Of course I’m not expecting anything like this to ever to really happen but I bring it up just to think a little bit outside of the box because I have a feeling that we are all going to be very surprised by what Beane is about to do in this draft. I think that expecting the unexpected would be the best way to prepare for in this upcoming draft. Beane has already proven that he is not at all intimidated by making the tough decisions, whether if they work out or not, and/or willing to take big risks. This should be very interesting watching what he is going to do in free agency and the draft. -
Thoughts and prayers for Jimbo, one of the all time Bill greats.

What crazy draft action would create the biggest stir?
Tipster19 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That New England trades Tom Brady to the Browns for their 2018 #1, #4 overall picks plus Cleveland’s 2019 1st and 3rd round picks so they can draft the QB (Darnold?) choice. Now THAT would cause a draft day stir! -
Preston Brown thinks he can help the Patriots
Tipster19 replied to Domdab99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
!@#$ him! This isn’t sour grapes either. I have never been a Preston Brown fan, I think he’s a gutless, balless bastard who always seems to stand around the pile or comes in when the play is just about over, trying to pad his stats. I hope he does go to the Patriots, maybe then we could score more. Good bye jerk-off, go blow Gilmore while you’re at it. -
Please go back and reread what I said. The guy is definitely in the end of his career. I like him, nothing personal but like so many people have reminded everybody this is still a business.
-
That’s not a hateful idea about switching Cordy to the right side. It all comes down to Glenn staying healthy and if Beane wants to pay that for a RT. I suppose they could though due to Dawkins being on a much cheaper contract. That would leave RG as the only soft spot on the OL, regardless if they replace Incognito with Norwell. 1pr 2 other thoughts I forgot to share and that is good for Blake Bortles on getting an extension. The guy stepped up and took an awful lot of abuse earlier in the season. The guy carries himself with a ton of class. the other point is I wonder just how desperate Denver really is for a QB and how Chad Kelly is doing. Either Kelly is a hidden jewel and Denver isn’t really in such a dire straits for a QB or Kelly isn’t the answer, which makes it more palatable that the Bills didn’t draft him.

Thinking about the upcoming season and what the Buffalo Bills might do. Thinking about Tyrod and where his value would be the highest. It would be with Buffalo, barring injury to any other team’s QB. I don’t see any team wanting him as their starter as of now unless they were forced. Seattle would remotely be in need if Russell Wilson chooses baseball over football. Currently there is nothing that makes me believe in that though. I could see Beane finishing off most of the players on the roster that were of the previous regime, pushing for a youth movement and also getting contracts in line. Moving up in the draft and overlaying in FA and/or veterans in a trade isn’t the best way to use our resources or managing the salary cap. I believe that staying put with our draft picks gives us the best franchise friendly contracts. One of The moves is to trade off Incognito. Not only is he firmly in the back 9 of his career and is paid over 6M this year but I think that whole thing that went down with Jacksonville’s DL Yannick Ngakoue didn’t leave the best taste in the new regime’s mouth. Purely speculation but Incognito isn’t the best image maker. There’s several teams that need G help, teams like Denver, Minnesota, etc etc. The biggest prospect for LG on the market is going to be Carolina’s 25 year old FA Andrew Norwell. If the Bills can land him in free agency then that would be a huge victory for them, especially if they structure a very friendly long term contract. Speaking of the OL the untimely loss of Eric Wood didn’t do us any favors. If Groy isn’t an adequate replacement I don’t think that the Bills will take a C early in this draft, it’s suppose to be pretty deep for OLinemen and I think a mid round pick just might do the trick. Before I move on I would like to say that I would be shocked if the Bills don’t trade Cordy Glenn. The Colts would make a good trade partner. Big part of Andrew Luck’s injury is greatly contributed to their shoddy OL play. I’m quite confident that Cordy would be of great value to them. Unfortunately the right side of our OL is still lacking greatly and I don’t have any idea how the Bills will address this. I hope that Buffalo doesn’t use all their prime resources to move up in this draft, especially that none of the prospects are a guarantee at this time to be a great starter right out of the gate. Lamar Jackson looks to be available when we pick and using Tyrod as a bridge QB would make a lot of sense. One thing that I would like to have some input on is that Beane strikes me as a no nonsense type of guy and he already has proven that he is not the sentimental/loyal type to anybody. I’m not faulting him, he might be exactly what we need but all of this is still too early to tell how successful his tenure is going to turn out. I bring this up because he comes off as a hard ass all the while McDermott speaks of love and chemistry. That strikes me as a hard sell while the guy upstairs is more than willing to blaze a swath through the roster. Any thoughts on this? I don’t know what kind of compensation that the Bills can command in trade of the above named players, that’s well above my head, but I’m sure Beane will bring fair market value back to to the Bills so they can parlay that into improving the roster. If the Bills do stand pat in the 1st rd and then grabs a QB then I sure hope that their next pick is spent on a DT. What was a big strength a couple/few years ago is now a big time soft spot. Apparently it recently came to light that the Bills were 1 of a few teams that were interested in trading for Pittsburgh WR Martavis Bryant. Man, I for one is glad that that didn’t go down! The guy is on a pitch count with suspensions and doesn’t strike me as a great team player. I’m out on this one. In conclusion I just want to say that the upcoming draft and season looks to be something much different than what we have been used to for the last couple of decades, that it’s very unpredictable. I for one is very excited and once again optimistic. Go Bills!

Could Cleveland do what San Diego did in 2004?
Tipster19 replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like this thinking, it’s strategic. I’ll take it a step further. What if Cleveland traded up from the #4 spot to the #2? The trade up would not be as astronomical for Cleveland as it would be for everyone else other than the Colts who currently holds the #3 overall pick. Cleveland also holds the most picks (12) in the 2018 NFL Draft so they do hold quite a bit of firepower if they did want to make such a bold move. Could you imagine the leverage the Browns would have in this draft if they held the #1 AND the #2 overall picks??!!! Wow! -
