I don't like the local media (this is a shock to everyone I know). That said, I completely disagree. The media has a right to ask whatever "gotcha" questions they want to ask; the readers have the right not to read clickbait articles; and Doug Whaley has the professional obligation to handle all questions with a certain level of competence. He did not.

It's hilarious trying to hear him defend this team over and over. The call screeners can't keep everyone off the line and there have been multiple callers basically saying "as long as Whaley and Russ are there it doesn't matter who the coach is", John's answer is always a very curt "they aren't going anywhere" and I think it makes a big difference who the HC is. Narrative is now - we are too good for retreads, this is a "Doug Whaley" search and we are bringing in young coaches who can relate to todays players.

I wouldn't trade up for Kizer, but I'd probably take him at 10. He's an average leader, but so are most QBs coming in to the league. He can make all the throws and has good mobility but is absolutely a pocket passer first.

It could be all or no ways. This thread is 100% speculation. Whaley may decide to hire himself and then give the HC control of the 53 man roster. That way he has both given up and retained control. This is pretty much the only way the media is right.

People who still watch ESPN content remind me of people who still have AOL. Watch NFL Network on demand like a grown up. ESPN is outdated. I can go to 1 of 100 websites today to read coverage and watch clips of pretty anything relevant to my sports taste. They rely on a pre-internet system and think charging for "insider" information is still a way to do business. I'd put twitter above their "insider" analysis all day, just give me information. Perfect illustration of the difference between ESPN and NFL Network - Mel Kiper v Mike Mayock. One one hand we have a talking head who continues to fool people into thinking he is an expert and puts his opinions out there as authoritative vs an actual player who gives analysis and doesn't feel the need to defend his opinions because he admits talent evaluation is an inexact science.

I mean if personality were in direct correlation to coaching effectiveness I'd say hire this guy. Kind of hard not to listen to that video and not be pumped up.
