  1. The best thing is that we are winning while we try to get better. We can afford to take baby steps and tweak our weaknesses rather than panic and try despiration moves in an attempt to "save" our season.
  2. 100. Owner is cheap 101. GM takes naps 102. HC&GM talk funny 103. it really IS hard to win in the NFL
  3. I think the big deal was the drafting of Spiller which gave us an overcrowded backfield. I was never much of a Lynch fan (mostly due to his off field exploits) but I recognized he was a talented & determined power runner ... We Bills fans thought Jackson and Lynch made a pretty good 1-2 punch. Enter Spiller and the outlook get muddied and one back has to go. As to Lynch being "expendable" that still remains to be seen .... Spiller has really not lived up to what the Bills thought they were drafting ... and how long can Freddie keep taking a beating?
  4. Well I'm stupid and old That's almost as good as your licence plate frame.
  5. Hmmmmmmm ..... being the student of superstition that I am, I'm a little concerned. Did the passing of gas on the Tom Brady note assure our win, or was it the passing of gas on the name of our opponents starting QB assure the win? It is my humble opinion that this week you should cover all bases and pass gas on Tom Brady again AND pass gas on Michael Vick ..... The Tom Brady thing may not be really necessary, but he deserves it anyway.
  6. I said in a post a few days ago that going into this season I hoped the Bills would improve to 8-8 this year ... if you will remember looking at the strength of schedule going in, people were predicting we would have less wins than last year. Just because our early sucess had me doing silly things like thinking of the possibilities of a Bills - Lions super bowl, and silently believing in the possibility the Senator maybe right afterall, doesn't mean, now that my world has come back to reality, all of a sudden I should start thinking we suck. I honestly think we are ahead of schedule with our rebuilding ... I honestly think 8-8 (or better) is doable ... and I honestly think we compeate for the playoffs next year. In the mean time the Bills have given me three out of four very entertaining games to watch, and I'm looking forward to next weeks game, which is something I haven't done for a long LONG time.
  7. Dang!!!! It IS hard to win in the NFL
  8. My wish for this team going into the season was for them to go 8-8, recognize and ackowledge their weaknesses, and do some things through the next draft/free agency period to adress those weaknesses to give me hope for a better season next year. If everyone is honest I would bet their expectations/hope was something similar (the Senator excepted). are we going to lose some games? .... of course we are do we have holes and weaknesses? .... of course we do will we have a week or two where the ball just doesn't bounce our way and we can't get a break .... of course there will (we ARE the Bills after all) But I am enjoying the direction this team is going, and quite frankly (judging from the first 3 games) I'm surprised at how far we seem to have come. Time will tell ... will our lack of depth end up killing us ... will teams figure out how to exploit our weaknesses .... I have no idea ... but what I THINK I know is that this team will not give up, they will fight to the end of every game, and Buffalo Bills football is once again fun to watch. Bottom line is ... sit back, crack a cool one of your choice, and enjoy the ride. Go Bills!
  9. I agree with the OP .... and don't think it's racist at all .... Stevie, Freddy, Dave Nelson, Donald Jones, Shawne Merriman, as well as Fitz .... all are articulate and well spoken. I don't remember any interviews with any of our players this season where the player sounded like a third grade dropout. I admit to being an old fogey, but I rather enjoy our lack of "thuggishness" and the fact that our players speak like intelegent college graduates.
  10. Does that mean Ralph is too cheap to buy a plane ticket to see his own team??? LOL out loud DAMN it's good to be a Bills fan today!
  11. I don't want to sound ungrateful .... but ... could I please have a few more Kansas City games, and a few less Oakland/New England games ... I'm an old man, my heart can't take much of this. It's a great day to be a Bills fan!!!!!!!
  12. I expect Kelsay to get cut before either McGee or the Hangman .... I know the contract extension and all ... but that was then, this is now ... IMHO Carrington steps in quite nicely into the Kelsay roll.
  13. IMHO ..... seats at the 20 gives a bad sightline to a large part of the field, also because of the point of view it's difficult to really see the recievers routes and the lines blocking scheme. If you are looking for low cost seats, I'd pick end zone ... but not lower ... I'd go up quite a bit. High end zone seats will give you a perspective on the "paterns" of the game that you just can't get at the sidelines or on TV. A while back I took my son to a game in Jax, he is at the point of starting to want to really understand the game as opposed to watching the game purely from the prospective of following the ball. We started at the 50 to give him a feel of the live game atmosphere/excitement, but at halftime we moved to the endzone (lot's of empty seats at Jax) so he could see the route trees, the lines blocking stunts, and see the hole for the running backs open up real time. He commented after the game that it seemed to be an all together different game. The biggest downside of endzone seats is that no matter which end you sit at the action will always be at the other end.
  14. I'll preface my post with full disclosure. I am an old fogey so maybe my views maybe are a bit skewed ..... You can't compare rock concerts to sporting events because by and large "rock stars" are single generational, granted there are a few who's music span a few generations (The King, and Beatles come to mind), and there are a few that seem to hang on well past their "best if used by date" (Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Who ... and yes Alice Cooper come to mind), but by and large I go to see my rock stars, my kids go to see their rock stars, and it's getting to the point that my grand kids go to see theirs ... but never the three shall meet. Sporting events on the other hand are multi generational, My Dad followed Babe Ruth, I followed Mickey Mantle, my son follows A-Rod. The rules of sport either stay the same or evolve slowly over time ... If my dad were still alive I could envision him, me, my son, and my grandson all sitting together and enjoying a baseball or football game, but there is no way all four of us would enjoy a Glen Miller concert.
  15. I give him credit for posting and not just trying to fade into the background untill it all blows over .... but the real question is ... has anybody seen his 8 year old lately ... is she OK???? just sayin'
  16. IMHO .... our big problem is our versatility. We've got a QB who can play QB, RB, and WR ... but we don't have anybody that can play QB well. We've got guys who can play any position along the O-Line ... but we don't have anybody who can play "THEIR POSITION" well. We've got wide recievers who can play split out or in the slot ... but none play either position well. We've got guys who can play DT and DE and OLB ... but we don't have anybody who plays their position well. We've got linebackers who can play either inside or outside ... but no one plays either exceptionally well (appoligies to Merriman when he's healty). I'm just sayin'
  17. If the league didn't want him to circumvent the NFL rules for incoming players they should have not let him into the supplimental draft, seems like an easy decision to me ... No mister Pryor, you are trying to "cheat the system" and we can't let you do that, but you are welcome to attend next years combine and apply for the draft at that time ... thank you very much. The NFL is talking out of both sides of their mouth on this one, bottom line is ... Pryor can't circumvent the NFL's rules without the NFL's approval, if they approve him for the supplimental draft than he hasn't circumvented anything.
  18. HEY ...... I've heard of him ............. GET ER DONE BUDDY!!!!!!!
  19. IMHO ... The size of a rookie contract is not in any way relevent to his performance as a pro. It is mearly a "gamble" on the teams part as to that rookies percieved potential. Some gambles work out such as Manning, Rivers, etc. and some don't such as Maybin, Mcargo, etc.. Where it gets sticky is when a player gets a "mega contract" and turns out to be just a solid/average/contributing player. I, like most fans find it hard to justify having an OK player getting payed superstar money ... but in the end it just doesn't matter (except to the guy writing the checks). I think the classic example was Whitner ... he was OK ... nothing more, nothing less, but his problem was when he was drafted the Bills felt he was going to be a difference maker and he never was (and IMHO never would be). It's almost impossible to sign this type of player to a follow-on contract because you have to in effect tell him he's not nearly as good as advertised and he needs to take a paycut accordingly. Which brings us back to Spiller .... Let's say he turns out to be an OK running back (heaven forbid). I'm sure we as fans will begrudge him his large paycheck, but is it cost effective for the team to dump him for someone who may turn out to be a bust of a running back?
  20. I agree with Spiller .... with him being a high draft choice (and a luxury pick we couldn't afford to miss on) even if he does OK it will not be good enough ... it's either greatness or nothing!!!
  21. I don't mean to say he didn't need to be cut, as far as I'm concerned he should have been long gone. What I'm wondering is could the Bills be poised to bring in someone (where's Nevergiveup when you need him). Isn't it just a little bit strange that we cut a player after the 1st preseason game? Why not after last season was done ... why not at the start of training camp .... why not two years ago.
  22. No, I honestly think Maybin will be the sack leader this year .... but he will be sacking groceries at Topps
  23. I belong in the camp that thinks preseason really desn't mean much as a predictor of regular season sucess. My hope for every preseson game is to finish with no significant injuries, for the new players to get some experiance, and for the coaching staff to see effort/lack of effort from players to aid them in their decisions to cut down the roster. Chicago has been in the news lately for the horrendous shape their field is in ... even to the point the team refused to practice on it. I haven't seen any reports that the field has been fixed, or somebody from the league has inspected it and deemed it "game ready". I will be sitting on "pins and needles" the entire game in fear of injury (especially to an O-lineman). I understand this is football and injuries happen ... but to incur an injury during a meaningless game because of a poorly maintained field (that everyone knew about)will make my head explode.
  24. Actually there are 10 types of people in the world; Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  25. I didn't mean to insinuate there was a "full blown" QB controversy with Kelly and Reich ... just wanted to mention that even our HOF QB was not immune to the "we want (fill in the back up of the day)" chant.
