I'm sure his comments were somewhat in jest and was just meant to talk them up, but also does mean they are both looking real good and he's impressed with their play. Whether they truly know the playbook better who knows, but does sound like it was somewhat of a shot at some vets that may not know it any better or at least not as well as expected than the two rookies. May be just trying to give a wake up call to McKenzie, Roberts and Foster that you better up you're game or be gone.

That 70% number was based on 15 years of data, but do agree this year could be different as likely lower chances of teams grabbing players cut by others unless it's someone that another team wanted to draft or sign. If they feel they can slip Hodkins to the PS without getting grabbed then that may happen or as I said in another thread they are really hoping he gets a hang nail so they can move him to IR. But even then, you still have Diggs, Brown, Beasley, Roberts, Davis, and likely McKenzie ahead of him. Think he'll need to show a marked improvement in training camp from last season to stick over one of these other guys. -

That's what Jay S is predicting will happen particularly now since the 2021 cap will likely be much lower -

70% of 6th rounders stick with the team -

Likely if Williams is cut, agree he will be picked up by someone else as has shown enough. I'd say Hopkins has more upside because he was drafted where as Williams never was. Her signed as an UDFA and got cut in September. No teams were interested in him so for two seasons played in Canada. Granted much was for off field issues, but still he wasn't signed. As to teams cutting 6th rounders all the time, 70.2% stick the 1st year, dropping to 57% the second year all the way down to 10% by year five. However by year 5, only 18% of 3rd rounders are still on a roster too. I think Williams would need to show a significant improvement from last season to be kept over a draft pick. As I said the best chance for Williams is Hodkins is put on IR, then that may open a spot and that's assuming they keep 6 WR Actually I forgot completely about Roberts so that even further lessens Williams chances. -

More like #6 spot! There's no way he's making the team over a 4th round draft pick who has the #4 WR spot locked up and even a 6th rounder likely has a leg up on him particularly since both guys drafted are as big as Williams is. So they both bring to the table the same thing Williams brings other than some experience. McKenzie brings are rather uniquely different skill set that is lacking elsewhere so likely he also has a leg up on Williams to be kept as will come down to Williams or 2 draft picks all with very similar skill sets. Beane likes his draft picks! The top 4 spots are taken, I think #5 goes to McKenzie, so the only way I see Williams making the team is if they feel they can sneak Hodkins to the PS. Likely the more experienced Williams would outplay Hodkins in training camp, but the long term upside may be higher with Hodkins so they would be more reluctant to lose him. Maybe the team gets lucky and Hodkins breaks a nail so they can move him to the PS for a year, then Williams chances could change. Likely whomever is the #6 WR will be inactive most weeks anyway barring injuries ahead of him. -
I'll tell you one company who'd like scream up and down over this is Sunday Ticket! There is a maximum of 16 games each week, take away; Thursday, Sunday, and Monday night game you're down to 13 games. Haven't looked at this years schedule specifically but typically when you get into the bye weeks there are some weeks with six teams with byes. That leaves 10 games. Now take away three more for Saturdays, you're down to 7 games on Sunday. Considering almost everyone gets three games on local TV, 2 early and the doubleheader, that leaves DTV with 4 games to convince people to pay $300 to watch each week. Could see this becoming a sticking point as I'm sure there is something in the agreement that specifies a minimum number of games will be available each week to them. I realize week 17 that didn't happen, one week may have been written into the contract, but if every week. Even the weeks without byes, the selection would still be small. Think to broadcast Saturdays will require a major contract redo with DTV over this. Personally I'd be happy with games on Saturday, but can see this being a sticking point.

I'll bet it's much more common place than you realize. 30 years ago, did you see a player coming off the field after a loss smiling, these days they are hugging it out with the winning team laughing, joking, and telling stories after the game. They are all friends to some level! Just as they say the would is getting smaller, so is the NFL and all other sports for that matter IMO.

Forget Diggs! These 4 Free Agents need to produce!
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not shocking at all. I'd be very surprised if newly signed FA aren't going to be at the top of a teams salary cap, it's pretty much a given for anyone signed near the beginning phase of free agency as new contracts will always far exceed older ones. Guys signed in April or May time frame, they are in a position to take whatever they can get. As has been pointed out too they are all on contracts that the Bills can easily walk away from after this season. -
NFL Sunday Ticket 2020

So I put my address it and says I'm NOT eligible. Under terms pretty much the same as prior years, live in an apartment, condo, etc where DTV is not available. -

Was reading a comment the other day, with many bars closed, there will be less ways to see games, will the NFL work out a deal with DTV to allow the streaming package to become available to anyone who wants it. I have a "friend" who watches all the games on line via the computer on one of the illegal streams. If he could buy just the streaming package, he told me would do that. The way the world is going with more and more cutting the cord, (or chain sawing the dish) it might not be a bad thing for DTV to test out a readily available streaming package as they may find more interest that way than they get with people subscribing to DTV. I really think when the current ST contract expires, could see the NFL go instead to a streaming partner as may get more money that way. So far every time the contract is up, DTV shows up with a boat load of cash so they re-sign the deal with them, but can see that ending. I also think AT&T is a little more profit conscious and may not offer the NFL as much as previously. Just read Chandlers post, maybe it's already happened?? -
Wouldn't shock me to see the Bills are cautious with bringing Feliciano back, if by mid year he's ready, but Winters is playing good and not hurt, they give Feliciano and injury settlement and release him as he'll become a FA by year end anyway. Assuming the rules with the new CBA haven't changed around that? I didn't see what the deal with Winters is, just a one year or more?

As far as letting Gilmore go, I'm no Technical X's and O's expert, but would Gilmore have been an ideal fit in McD's defense? It seems NE plays a different defense than we do. So that may have been why. Seems like that's always and issue with changing staff's too many players don't fit the scheme and you end up half or completely starting over.

So what happens if someone decides not to play after Thursday? Any players who make more than $2.5mil, a single game check would exceed the $150k for players opting out. So what happens if a player plays the 1st two weeks, gets their checks, they states I'm done. (and not a halftime either) Is their contract voided? How would it differ from doing it now, other than they don't get the $150k, but they did get more in their paycheck. Does their contract not push back a season?

Covid reserve list transaction wire
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the numbers the way there are currently all over the country, I'd think the Bills have a better chance of staying healthy than say the Dolphins, Saints or Texans as even if the players go out and do something stupid, there's many less infected people in Western NY to catch it from than other parts of the country. For road games, I'd think players could stay safe during the 30 or so hours they are visiting another city. Admittedly byNov or Dec the numbers could change and Western NY could again become much worse, but for now looks good. Plus obviously due to player to player contact during a game, things can be transmitted there if there was a player who tested negative, but literally became positive an hour before game time after testing and now is a spreader. -
Well may have been they knew once they signed Winter, Long would be cut so did him a favor by letting him go now to try and hook up with another team. Not so sure how many trades will happen this year. It seems these new rules are geared towards less roster churn, thinking the less roster churn, lessens the chances of Covid coming in the door. Can't trade for a draft pick without first cutting another player prior to making the trade. Will be interesting to see if overall much less trades at the end. Even picking up players cut by teams when they get down to the final 53, will other teams sign someone for their PS or tend to keep their own. Without pre-season games will be hard to evaluate other teams players anyway.

Sean: “back up or mask up”
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Adding the word "Buck O" to the end would even sound better! Back up or mask up Buck O! -
What changed is they want to sign Brian Winter,s but can't even bring him in for a physical without being down to 79 players, so they needed to let someone go. Long saves almost $3mil, can use that towards signing Winters. Probably with signing Winters, the need for Long and his salary decreases. The only risky part to me would be if Winters fails the physical. With the rules this year, may see alot of this.

So with these two signings, are they still at 80 or did they have to let someone else go? Thought they were already at 80, maybe Gaines was still officially on the roster so included in the 80??
