Bills at -9.5 are the biggest favorites this weekend. Second biggest are the Cowpokes at -9 over the Jets.

I think even the most ardent Bills homer would have to admit that wasn’t the play of a QB who had relentlessly studied the Jets defense from the two games last year. He looked unprepared and his line about preferring to react to what he’s seeing in game versus overdoing tape study rings louder after that sort of performance.

I didn’t have a problem with the first one because the result of it being inside the 5 yard line was great BUT Allen had room to run for that first down which would’ve continued the drive and possibly led to points. The second INT and the third I had problems with. The second one was thrown from the Jets 40 on 2nd down IIRC, so you cannot say the first two picks didn’t cost the Bills points. Tyler can hit a 57 yarder, but if that second INT was simply an incomplete pass, the offense gets another shot on 3rd down to get closer than a 57 yard FG. The main gripe is that second half Allen just looked unprepared, unfocused, and spazzy, like a kid with ADHD. Like a QB who had no idea what the Jets were doing on defense and how to counter. The answers to the defense were given, he had them, but elected to meltdown on a national stage. You just don’t expect to see that kind of play out of a 6 year pro bowl QB. All QBs have bad games, a stinker here or there, but Josh can’t be the primary reason the Bills lose a game. He just can’t be.

We’ll learn more about Bernard as the season progresses, but for game 1 he was fine. I liked his blitz in the first half where he got tripped up/tackled by the RB. Looked like an agile DB flying in there. Couldn’t have asked for more when you consider it was his first start and he missed all of the preseason. Hopefully Bernard holds up over the course of the season, but linebackers are smaller nowadays. He’s bigger than the Jets Quincy Williams.

That’s absolutely what I’ve seen. Are you also going to tell me I wasn’t screaming “get him!” as Bills defenders closed in and not one of them could get to either QB in time? Mahomes holds the ball like Josh so he’s more comparable, but NO offense is designed to hold it for 3+ seconds. Brady doesn’t have the wheels that Josh and Mahomes have, so knowing his pre and post snap reads were even more paramount to his success. And even in the instances his initial read was wrong and the pocket closed in around him, he never panicked. He kept his cool and looked to new targets. It was Houdini-like how no one could get to him in time, how many arm swipes that would’ve gotten there with just half a second more. My original point of not panicking when things closed in around them was valid, for both QBs. Mahomes has gotten better at this, no doubt, and that has also coincided with the improvement of his OL. Josh has to take that next step and also trust in his guys.

I saw in the sack highlights where the Jets brought pressure and the pocket was collapsing, but it never caved in on him. Instead, Josh tried to take off running and caused the sack himself. I’m reminded that I see the same frenetic pocket collapsing all around Brady and Mahomes, but neither of those dudes panic like Josh. It’s like they know the rush won’t get to them in time, so they stand tall in there and make the throw. When there are avenues to escape - and there weren’t for Josh - that’s when you’ll see Mahomes do his loopty loops in the backfield until someone springs free. Josh needs to become MUCH better in manipulating the pocket. That starts with having more trust in his OL, that even though things are collapsing all around him, it’s best to stand in there and make the throw because you’re not going to escape most of the time. Who knows how many potentially big plays were left on the table because he ran himself into a sack.

I was surprised to see Lawson get as much PT as he did. He made the most of his snaps and flashed a few times which was encouraging to see.

Josh had the same issues with Daboll that he has with Dorsey. Too many of you think we could just change the coordinator and everything would be different. It comes down to Allen protecting the football more than anything - not the men standing on the sidelines or calling plays from the booth. They can give him direction, he has to take it. They can preach about the same issues until they’re blue in the face, he has to implement them. Seriously and I don’t mean this as a jab to you, but what offensive coach is coming in here and changing the unit/scheme/culture AND reducing Allen’s penchant for turnovers? Name this magical person.
-
On coaching, if Dorsey is thrown out McD might as well follow. We saw with our own eyes McD pointing to his head “be smart” as Josh decided to truck defenders for one yard rather than get out of bounds. If Dorsey can’t get through to him, if McD can’t get through to him, then it’s time to move on from both… BUT Josh would then be labeled a “coach killer” until he changed his ways. Maybe a disciplinarian or intimidating coach like Parcells is the only way, but those coaches have to have hardware to pull off that style in today’s NFL. And we’re not getting a SB winning head coach in here. Bienemy as a HC would quickly lose his players because he doesn’t have the hardware to back his hard-nosed coaching style. Commanders were already complaining about him as coordinator.

No doubt about that. But if the Bills want to be a Super Bowl team Josh has to be the reason for winning the big game, not a liability like he was last night. He’s a 6 year pro bowl QB who just made the cover of Madden. Wake up, Josh! The whole non-Bills nation is laughing at you this morning. It was far more Josh Allen and his faults than it was Ken Dorsey.
-
I find it comical the QB could play that bad - with open options we’re all seeing - and some of the complaints here are Dorsey, Dorsey, Dorsey. It’s Josh Allen, Josh Allen, Josh Allen. That’s why we lost, not Ken Dorsey. Any coordinator would be handcuffed if his starting QB plays that way, especially against a good defense. There aren’t any other easy layups Dorsey wasn’t utilizing because the layups the Jets were giving you, Josh wasn’t taking.

Offense looked alot like the Bengals game. Very concerning

Peyton Manning threw 6 picks in a primetime game once

Josh has a long way to go to catch Peyton Manning in the cerebral game. And I’m confident in saying it’ll never happen, he relies on his athletic gifts too much. -
Sam Martin's tackle attempt on the punt return TD in OT.

Based on how the players are running after the snap, especially the gunner up top, the ball was supposed to be punted to the right sideline. It went middle left which threw off the coverage and had guys vacating their lanes to make the tackle. -
It’s easy to blame the coordinator when the offense isn’t working, but no coordinator can overcome a QB who’s not reading the field well and doesn’t know where to go with the ball post snap. These are the issues plaguing Allen. We marvel at Mahomes for hitting open receivers and give tons of credit to Andy Reid, but if you swapped QBs and Allen played in KC, the Allen of last night would look just as rough against comparable defenses and all those open players Mahomes routinely hits wouldn’t get targeted. Your QB has to know where to go with the ball. He cannot panic and run into sacks if the pocket is clean. For the Bills to win the Super Bowl Allen has to be the reason, not the liability he was last night. I can remember Mahomes being the sole reason his team lost the game. How many such games does Allen have?

We’ve needed to get faster at safety for a few years now.
-
11) No serious injuries
-
He had a great blitz in the first half and was tackled by the RB, surprised there was no call.
-
Actually all three of those players tested faster than Cook if I’m not mistaken.
-
That’s the main complaint I see as I watch him run. He doesn’t juke defenders out of their shoes, nor does anyone slide off an attempted tackle. Basically if he’s touched he’s going down. With that said, he wasn’t the reason for the L tonight, but a Jonathan Taylor, Breece Hall, or Saquon Barkley type of back with Cook’s speed would be invaluable.
-
Allen can’t be the reason his team loses the game. He just can’t. As a QB in his 6th year, with all the physical tools in the world, his mental game is behind the other top QBs and even Tua and I don’t think there’s any debating that. His floor is the basement and it doesn’t look like it’ll ever become the first floor. He’s just not reading the field as well as he needs to and no offensive coordinator can account for or overcome that. Not even the great Andy Reid. I don’t know what the answer is, but this team will never win a Super Bowl if he’s the reason for losses.

T Woolen was a genetic freak, but thought to be a project. He went in the 5th round. Who knew he’d play like a first round corner his first year? It’s all a gamble. I’d rather Beane trade down than up. Should also mention I was against the Kincaid trade up, but that’s looking like a solid one. Most others - besides Josh Allen - we could’ve done without.
-
Elam would benefit from a fresh start and if you asked him candidly I’m sure he’d welcome one. It stings even more when you consider we traded up for him.
