I don't understand. On one hand, you're arguing that you put him at the X. On the other you're saying "Imagine a defensive coordinators nightmare not knowing for sure on every play who X,Y or Z really was on any given play". I'm not advocating you never put him on the Boundary. I'm open to having him there from time to time. I'm simply saying where he's found success in the league is not there full time. You put him where he's succeeded. Samuel full time Outside is a projection and a gamble.

Wait, so you're saying that you lean towards him staying on this team, just as I do. But if he is traded, you're going to take personal victory laps for being right that he *was* traded, and clown me for all eternity? Talk about having your cake and eating it too. There is no losing here for you - as if he stays, you'll say "well yeah, I leaned that way the whole time" - even though your entire footprint on this thread has been disagreeing with anyone who says it's unlikely to happen and anyone who reads into what's said as anything but the worst. Your stance is he'll most likely be here, but you oppose people who think there's no chance he could be moved. My stance is that he'll most likely be here, but I oppose people who see no chance that his tweets mean anything but the worst and that it's likely, if not, necessary we trade him in 2024 and can't wait for 2025. At this moment, I don't see it happening. Am I closed off to the idea that things could change? No. If he were to wake up tomorrow and take to Twitter and clearly (not cryptically) state he wants out, that would be different than where we're at right now. Which is just fans and a portion of the media running with assumptions, rumor, and innuendo passed as fact.

It's not the preferred choice by me or most fans. But it's not an "AWFUL" idea. Right now we have Ed Oliver and Daquan Jones at DT and that's literally it. And we use a heavy rotation there. DT will probably be one of our first 2 picks. And there's an argument to be made with how deep WR is and how thin top prospect D-Line talent is that it makes more sense to take the DT first and trade up in Round 2 for a WR. I'd rather we didn't do that. But to say there isn't merit in the idea or that it's "AWFUL" isn't true.

I mean we're "moving" one player over and replacing him with a guy who played there rotationally last season. You don't spend a 1st or even a 2nd on a Backup Center. A starting Center takes 100% of snaps unless there's an injury. You don't spend a 1st on depth that isn't rotational and doesn't have a clear path to a Starting job. Especially when there's a million other holes elsewhere, including Starters and positions where there's rotation. And doing so wouldn't remedy the situation of Josh having not taken a snap from anyone on the roster. That's just a situation that was going to happen one day or another with Morse getting up there in age. McGovern was solid. But a big part of Morse being moved was that McGovern and Morse weren't a great combo together. For as good as McGovern was at holding the line and not allowing pressure to get through, he's not good at pushing Defenders back in the Rush game. Neither was Morse. That kind of skill is better for Center. As outside of short yardage situations, you're not running it straight up the middle (and we use a pusher in those situations anyways). You want your LG to get push. They see McGovern as tailor made for Center. That's how you feel. But their actions and words have said this is what they feel is best. And that trumps your feelings. We made the move of Morse and Bates because we had a plan and pieces in place for Center. Makes no sense, with the amount of holes we have, to voluntarily choose to blow that up and then spend our 1st Rounder to fix it. If it isn't WR, which it should be - it needs to be DE, as Miller could be toast and Epenesa, while great in rotation, probably isn't an every down Starter and we have nothing beyond Groot, Von, and Epenesa in the rotation. Or DT, as we only have Oliver and Daquan and literally nothing else for the rotation. Even DB is more of a need than Center, as we have only Taylor Rapp (a marginal starter) and dubious depth in Lewis and Hamlin. Depth Center and OG is something we'll address with FA's on a bargain or mid Round Draft picks for development and insurance. But you don't spend a 1st or a 2nd on those roles.

"Minnesota traded him" is what you've got as your smoking gun for everything. Minnesota trading him in 2020 when he was younger and cheaper vs. us doing it now, especially after his 18.5m salary has become guaranteed, is not a 1 to 1 comparison.

Man, you just want to convert everyone to positions other than the positions where they've found their footing and success in the NFL today, huh? It's not about "needing some big guy". It's about where a player plays best. Over the last number of seasons, Curtis Samuel has had 1042 snaps out of the Slot compared to 370 on the Boundary. He's someone who has burst off the line and gets open quickly in the short and intermediate passing game. He's tailor made there and has become the player he is there. You don't take a guy who plays less than 40% on the Outside and tell him he lives there now.

That's not his position. He's a get off the line and get open quick - short and intermediate routes guy. Perfectly suited for the Slot. In 2022 and 2023 - he was lined up in the slot 74.6% of the time (according to Pro Football Focus). I don't know where this 50/50 number has been coming from. Can he slide Outside at times? Yes. But you don't take players who have years vested in the league as successful as Samuel and then say "now be something else". This board is always trying to move people away from the things that make them successful into different roles (CB to Safety, OLB to MLB, Nickel to Boundary, Slot to X, OG to OT, etc.). It's not that simple. You only do that in very specific situations. The Slot is his natural position. That's where you want him taking the majority of his snaps.

So you want to take an All Pro Nickel CB and move him to Safety so that we can have a 3rd LB in Dorian Williams on the field and subtract a DB? Besides the madness of moving an All Pro to a different position, I think I still prefer having at least 5 DB's on the field at all times instead of 4. This idea that's floated around the board all offseason that any CB can switch to Safety and that it a.) Happens all the time and b.) CB's are cool switching positions is out of hand. Need a CB? You draft or sign a CB. Need a Safety? You draft or sign a Safety. You don't take a top performing young player from their natural position and switch them to another.

It's embarrassing. You go on a post of his and see 75% of the replies from delusional fans of other teams BEGGING for him to come play for them, 20% from Bills fans saying they can have him and calling him a cancer (amongst other names), and maybe 5% Bills fans not acting like crazy people. If you're a Bills fan and you don't like him - just don't follow him and ignore him. It's really simple. The visceral hatred and attacks directly to him are really unnecessary.
