Bills cuts to get to 53 [final info in the OP]
BillsFanForever19 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IR'ed for the year when he already had an exemption through the pathway program, of which I doubt they'll extend for ANOTHER season of exemptions, has me wondering if this is the end of the line for him with a settlement coming. -

That's the same number of CB's we had last season. Only change is Dane Jackson moves from the Practice Squad to take over Josh Norman's spot. He and Cam Lewis only ever came up if there were injuries last season. -

Guy turns 31 in a couple weeks. Was released by Detroit in March 1 year into a 2 year deal and 5 months later is released by Chicago before the start of the season. I don't pretend to be an expert on him last year or this offseason, but that pretty much tells me all I need to know. Especially since he'd be behind the 8 ball coming into our facility midseason and having to learn the defense. At best, he'd be a Practice Squad guy that maybe we could put in later in the season after he's up to speed or if there's injuries. -

With Harrison Phillips injury, I figured he'd at least be on the roster while they moved him to IR - if not beaten him outright. -

What's driving this is a VERY vocal, frequently posting minority that want him gone and a number of people who see it unlikely based on comments from the decision makers, actions in sitting him all preseason, and already losing a number of key contributors on that side of the ball. And when those things are brought up, they don't want to hear it and argue back. And around and around we go 😆 -

I think Stevenson is definitely going to be here. We don't usually cut our 5th Draft Pick, his speed and return ability is something that we needed going into the Offseason, we need WR's for after this season (Sanders, McKenzie, Kumerow are all FA's and Cole could be a cap casualty) and he's flashed his ability quite a bit this preseason. And with a number of unvaccinated WR's that could be put on the list any given week - I think it's necessary to keep at least an extra guy there. I don't think we can risk him clearing waivers. Wildgoose I think will be released. Dane Jackson will take over Josh Norman's roster spot and Damar Hamlin will take over Dean Marlowe's. I don't see us changing anything else or keeping an extra guy. -

No, I think it's not out of the realm of possibility that deals have been done where they haven't leaked it to the press quite yet. Especially it were to involve us. -

Again, much like the other guy, you say "expendable". McDermott says "best gunner in the league". Even if I were on your side, logically I'd realize that it doesn't line up with that of the Head Coach. That's what baffles me with you guys. -

He doesn't go through waivers. He immediately becomes a FA eligible to sign with whomever he chooses. That's what makes him a candidate for a *wink wink nod nod* release and return. -

If the team agreed with that logic, they'd have never signed Taiwan Jones to a new contract in Free Agency AFTER they signed Matt Haack. -

If he does get released, hold off on your celebratory party because he's one of the vet candidates that can be released and not subject to waivers to put someone else on the 53 and then immediately to IR so they can be brought back if need be (as Joe B has predicted). And we all know Kumerow can do the job at the same level? What evidence do we have of this? I believe both Kumerow and Taiwan will be here. But it's ridiculous to cut someone who is going to play every game multiple snaps for extra guys at positions that will be inactive every week unless there's an injury. You have your opinion and that's fine. But that opinion doesn't match the words and actions of McDermott. You say he's overrated as a gunner and replaceable. McDermott says he's the best gunner in the league. That's a big part of the reason why you've heard so many people say it. So when you argue he's not, you're arguing against McDermott's own words. And he's the decision maker. So to me, that's a futile hill to stand on. -

It's really not that simple. You can't just say they're injured and stick them on IR no questions asked. There's a misconception that we did that with Vosean Joseph and Isaiah Hodgins. Both underwent surgeries: https://billswire.usatoday.com/2019/09/10/bills-lb-vosean-joseph-undergoes-surgery/ https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/shoulder-surgery-sidelines-bills-wide-receiver-isaiah-hodgins-for-season/article_f0c504ea-3a3d-11eb-9ca9-23611a374367.html I believe for us to that with Doyle, he'd need an injury that they at least think will require surgery in the near future. -
DeShaun Watson will be inactive every game??
BillsFanForever19 replied to cage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get the feeling that this is more Deshaun's choice than Houston's. He's refusing to play for them and they're letting it be known that they'll just let him rot until he blinks or someone meets their price. I doubt they're voluntarily sitting him. -

I really don't see them taking carries away from Singletary and Moss for Breida. If that were the plan, they'd have signed a more established back. Not a career journeyman a week before the Draft for league minimum. He's their new TJ Yeldon. He'll be inactive on game days and only play if there's an injury to one of the other two or one of them proves ineffective and they feel they need a spark later in the season. McDermott isn't the type for a 3 headed monster. Seems to me he feels that messes up the rhythm of the runners. He always runs with 3 RB's active on GameDay with an emergency back not dressed. It's always 2 Runners, 1 ST'er on GameDay: 2018 - McCoy, Ivory, T. Jones (ST), Ford Inactive 2019 - Singletary, Gore, S. Perry (ST), Yeldon Inactive 2020 - Singletary, Moss, T. Jones (ST), Yeldon Inactive 2021 - Singletary, Moss, T. Jones (ST), Breida Inactive With key contributors like Daryl Johnson, Dean Marlowe, and Andre Roberts gone from the Special Teams - there is absolutely no way they're going to volunteer losing their ace on top of it. That's just relying on too many changes and camp projections for that side of the ball. And their actions with Jones this offseason points to that. -

Correct - but Daryl Johnson was one of the key pieces of our Special Teams core. It was his biggest role on this team. In an earlier post you even used keeping Daryl Johnson as a reason why they could afford to cut Taiwan agreeing that it's unlikely that they cut both pieces on that side of the ball. Now Johnson's out the door and with the extra spot on your roster - you still give it to someone else. In your defense, I do see your roster being almost perfect otherwise. And I do lean towards Obada staying now as well. The difference in your projection vs. mine is that in keeping 6 DE's (of which 3 have the ability to shift inside on occasion), I don't see them also keeping 5 DT's. Either Zimmer or Phillips will be released. And with Phillips being injured, he'll probably be put on the IR anyways. -

So on top of all the other factors pointing to Taiwan Jones being safe - we just traded one of our core Special Teamers away (after already losing Dean Marlowe, one of our core pieces in FA). Yet you still have him being released. You once asked me if I was related to him. Now I ask you - did he kick your dog or something? Or are you just of the mind that Special Teams really doesn't matter and you can just put anyone with legs back there? -
Bills trading Daryll Johnson to the Panthers for 6th rd pick
BillsFanForever19 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
And Obada doesn't play Special Teams. Which is the only reason I had them keeping Johnson and 6 DE's instead of 4 or 5. He may very well stay on. But I wouldn't look at Daryl Johnson being traded as a guarantee Obada makes it. I could very easily see them just keeping Hughes, Addison, Rousseau, Epenesa, and Basham. -

Rousseau and Basham also slid inside quite a bit in College, so that alone doesn't make him so unique we have to keep him. -
I've been saying all offseason that Marquez Stevenson's speed and return ability trumps Hodgins' size and red zone ability for what this WR core needs. With things being the way they are with a good portion of our WR core, I think it's necessary we keep 7 on the 53 and at least a couple more on the Practice Squad. I have no doubt that with the way he's flashed and being our 5th Draft Pick just a few months ago, Marquez Stevenson will be on the 53 opening day.

Not sure how that logic works when Kumerow was signed to a futures deal on January 26th and Taiwan Jones was re-signed as a Free Agent on March 29th... -
Alphas Final Roster Stab (after PS game 3)
BillsFanForever19 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with pretty much everything. Except Harrison Phillips will be IR'ed or straight up released and that spot on the 53 will go to Taiwan Jones. I don't see them carrying 11 Defensive Lineman. The number is usually somewhere between 8-9, 10 tops. With the logjam at Defensive End and us keeping six guys there in lieu of the normal 4-5 (of which some play inside as well), I always saw it coming down to either Zimmer or Phillips being released. And Phillips injuring his knee again settled that. I agree that Efe Obada will be traded, especially if Beane is saying teams are calling at that position. We've had this argument before. And again - I'm not saying it's the only reason. But the fact that they didn't play Taiwan Jones AT ALL during the preseason is the biggest indication of his importance to the team in their eyes. It makes zero sense to sign him this offseason for Special Teams, knowing they're already losing a key contributor to their Special Teams core in Dean Marlowe, not playing him even for a single snap, and then just cutting him. If he were on the bubble, he'd have been out there. Other than that - I'm with you. Though it wouldn't shock me if Joe Giles-Harris beat out Tyrell Dodson. He's reportedly had a very good camp and played well in the Preseason. Also wouldn't be surprised to see Josh Thomas make it in lieu of Jaquan Johnson. -
