I agree that 7.1 is too high and he's not getting that. But Spotrac's been pretty close with most RB numbers this year. About a million too high on the other top end RB's. I'm willing to bet they're a couple million too high on Harris. But even if you think 5 is too high, you're absolutely just wanting to trash this move if you're going to be unhappy if it comes in over $1.75m. You're nuts if you think we're getting him for less than half of what Devin Singletary got on the same day.

Hopkins isn't a thing. It's a pipedream. He has only this year and next year on his deal. A 36 million dollar cap hit this season and a 23 million dollar cap hit next year. There is no way to restructure him to where we could afford it. Even if we could do a new deal for him, there's no way Beane would carry both Diggs and Hopkins contract at the same time. We're 18+ million over the cap next season also. A gamble on an less than market value deal with OBJ, sure. Hopkins cannot be done. Nope. He's not coming in under Motor. Especially if his agent agreed to the deal after seeing what Motor got.

Hines took a restructure to lower his cap hit and stay with the team. He's not going anywhere.

Again, not going to happen. His estimated market value was on par with Miles Sanders and David Montgomery as the highest in FA. If Singletary got 3.75 - I'd be shocked if Harris came under 5.

I wouldn't be quick to say he got Harris on a "low salary" until the numbers come in. He was up there with Miles Sanders and David Montgomery as the RB's with the highest market value going into FA. I'd be surprised if he comes in under 5.5 annually.

Thank you! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills listening to people say he's "jag", saying it's a bad move if he came for more than 2 million, or paying him more than Singletary is a "bad tradeoff".

It will be and it should be. Harris is a different RB than Singletary and better at what he does than Singletary is at what he does. With Cook and Hines, we needed a bruiser. And one that has proved he can do it. This is an upgrade, not a bad tradeoff.

People seem to not remember how hard he crushed us on the ground in that game. He's a beast. Extremely powerful runner. There's a reason he was considered one of the top RB's available in FA. Definitely more than "just a guy". And the perfect compliment to James Cook and Nyheim Hines.

Damn. I was just talking to my Dad about RB options and was saying that Harris would work but he was probably the most expensive RB on the market to acquire. From Beane's end of the season presser: "Yeah, I think Von's in a good spot. I think he's doing well. I expect him ... I'm going to say the same thing. I expect him for a good portion of 2023; I'm not ruling out all of 2023, but I don't want to say that either. I think it's too early. I was asking Nate Breske (Bills trainer), he's seven weeks, it's crazy how time flies, but that was seven weeks ago when he had that surgery."

Either Beane really wanted to go in another direction or Motor really wanted out of Buffalo. I was pretty convinced Beane was playing the waiting game with Singletary and was going to bring him back on a team friendly deal. But if he signed elsewhere for that, that means someone wasn't interested in a return.

They'll have one more at least. They always carry 6 and they've carried 7 at times.

Thank you! I keep seeing people saying we don't have him next season and comparing him to Tre. But it's two separate things. One was a complete tear and complete reconstruction. One was a partial tear and repair. Beane himself has said he expects to have Von for most of the season. Something he never said about Tre.

These are the "cap doesn't exist" people. They think every year an infinite amount of money can be found anytime we want to without consequence. The cap can be finessed. But it's a real thing. And eventually the bill comes due. We're seeing it right now by being 18+ over this year and it's the same thing next season.

Personally, I don't. Not yet at least. But to spend a 3rd on a guy and then immediately make him a career backup by drafting someone in the 1st after 1 year of barely being worked in the system doesn't really add up to me. My guess is they bring in a vet for a year for Bernard to learn from him and see if he can grow into the role in Year 3. And/or take another Day 2 MLB and have them compete with Bernard. But I'd be surprised to see them just plug and play a 1st Round Rookie after spending a 3rd last year on Bernard.

Restructure what? He's only got this year and next year left on his deal. And his cap hit next season is 27 million. There's no way to restructure his deal or extend a player the caliber of Nuke without paying a fortune. I don't see us doing that and giving up compensation. Especially given our cap situation this year, the amount of holes we still have to fill, and our cap situation next year (again 18+ plus over the cap). And doing so would be giving up on extending Gabe after this season, which Beane doesn't sound like he wants to do, if his last presser was any indication. Way more likely we gamble on OBJ for a year, trade for someone more manageable like Jeudy for a year or two, and/or Draft someone. Even if we could, there's no way we'd pay Diggs what we're paying him and then pay for Nuke. Any way you slice it, Hopkins is a Madden like pipedream for this season.

Hopkins would require way too much money as well as Draft compensation. He has a 31 million dollar cap hit this season.

I love how someone not completely living up to their lofty expectations coming out of College and someone being picked below them performing better automatically equates to being "jag". Tremaine Edmunds all over again. And he just got handed the best deal for an ILB in the NFL. We take players for granted and the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Before Miller and Phillips went down, Oliver was performing quite well consistently. After Von's injury, teams focused blocking on him a lot more while singling Rousseau and Lawson/Epenesa. He was AFC Defensive Players of the Week for his performance in the Thanksgiving game. Beane has been talking up wanting to extend him. But yeah, he's "jag" 🙄

His estimated market value is 12.2 per. Might be a little lower - but I don't see it going that much lower. We're paying Connor McGovern 7.5 annually ourselves. Ben Powers got 12.9 annually. No way Seumalo only gets 8.

To the people hoping for an Ed Oliver trade - I think it's FAR more likely that he'd be extended for cap space than it is he'd be traded for cap space. Especially after Beane mentioned him as a player he'd like to keep beyond his rookie contract unsolicited while talking about Edmunds departure.
