  1. "In" can be simply calling. Which I haven't denied they did. But you're implying there was more to it than that and I just don't see it. The disparity between what AZ is asking and what we can afford and/or be interested in doing given our circumstances is too great for me to believe it was anything more than that. If there was a chance, Beane wouldn't have said what he said and Tim Graham wouldn't have reported what he reported. I also wouldn't point to us bringing back Smoke and Bease and talking to OBJ as "we've been in on every WR". There's tons of FA's that have signed this offseason that I'm sure we haven't talked to.
  2. I don't. It was Wednesday when everyone started connecting dots and "reporters" started reporting we were in. By early Friday morning, a Chiefs beat reporter had reported the price was too high and that the Chiefs and the entire league were out. Later on Friday, an ESPN reporter stated that they were looking for a "Christian McCaffrey like trade package". Then it was silence. Followed by Brandon Beane saying that when you hear we're in on stuff on Social Media, we've probably only done about 1% of the work that's reported. Beane has often said when he calls to check on things, if the price is too high, that's that. Clearly, if he called, he'd have heard what they were asking and that would be the end of that. We would not and could not come anywhere near that. Given our cap situation, the holes we have to fill, and the draft capital we have.
  3. Agreed. White and Elam should be cemented as starters with Jackson and Benford cycling in.
  4. Deader than the idea we're going to trade for Hopkins. It was fun for a couple days when he made his post and the "reports" came out. I'd bet we made a call when it was initially being reported that they'd essentially have to give him away. But when we called and found out the actual cost, which was more than was ever reported before, Beane said "cool, nice talk" and that was that.
  5. Oh, I'm ruling it out. Anything is possible. It's possible to Draft a QB at 27. But to do so with all the help this team needs would be in an inexcusably dumb move that would deserveably garner backlash and be immediately pointed to postseason if the team were to underachieve this year as a result of failures at other positions that were neglected.
  6. Yes, that's why we already have Tre White, Kaiir Elam, Taron Johnson (Nickel), Dane Jackson and Christian Benford at CB and Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, and Taylor Rapp at Safety. The guys we already have coming off the bench could start on some other teams. Even discussing a top pick at CB with the depth we have there and the holes we have at other positions is madness.
  7. If they want to take a guy they like in the mid rounds, sure. But you don't take a guy in the 1st or 2nd as insurance. Especially with the holes we have elsewhere. If he fails this season, then you move on and replace him next offseason.
  8. After the Hamlin game? You mean when we were down to our 3rd Free Safety? Tre White was just getting his feet under him, Jordan Poyer was playing hurt, and Christian Benford was hurt. We'll be going into the season with Micah Hyde returning from injury, Tre White will have a full offseason, Poyer was re-signed, Dane was re-signed, Taylor Rapp was added, Elam will have a year under his belt, as will Benford, who will go into the year 100% We can't just assume White won't return to form and look to replace him already with a 1st or 2nd Round Pick. If there's a player who falls that can't be passed on in Round 3 or later, go nuts. But those first 2 Rounds have to be a WR, LB, OL, TE, or DT (in no particular order). We're set in the Secondary.
  9. No, I think it's just a matter of a mid round prospect having Elite measurables. So it doesn't shock me that most of the teams in the league want to sit him down, get to know him, and pick his brain to see if he's someone they can squeeze a diamond out of in a mid round pick. But if he interviews really well with a team, it wouldn't shock me to see him be a player that gets "overdrafted" in experts eyes. Side note: with Tre White, Kaiir Elam, Dane Jackson, and Christian Benford as Outside CB's and Taron Johnson in the Nickel - we're loaded at CB. So much so, there's been discussion of moving Benford to Safety (which with the return of Poyer and the addition of Rapp seems unnecessary). There's no way we take a CB in Round 1 or even Round 2.
  10. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/julius-brents/32004252-4551-0110-2798-7a9b05aa2760 6'3" Corner with 34" arms. Don't need to say anything else.
  11. I wouldn't pay that and I doubt Beane will either. 6.5 base on a 1 year deal. Add a voidable year of funny money that you can use to bump up his signing bonus on the 1 year deal. Bringing it close to 8 million between base and bonuses. Take it or leave it. From the sounds of it, that's a lot better than he's being offered and might be the best he's going to get on a prove it deal. Which if he wants anywhere near what he's asking is what he's going to have to do. Prove it with us this year, cash in next year.
  12. With Poyer, Hyde, and Rapp - Hamlin could be brought back slowly and have limited reps. This will be his 3rd year. Keep him on the roster so that he can become a vested player. He's earned it.
  13. Kinda what I was wondering. He was untradable before. Then, after this happened, he restructured his deal to help the team and make him even harder to trade. Diggs isn't going anywhere.
  14. Looking at Arizona's cap situation, they're about 12 under right now. I'd imagine they want to get out from Hopkins massive contract. But they aren't in such bad shape that they have to. Between that and their actions, says to me that their stance is that they'll move him if someone blows them away with an offer. But if not, they're fine with keeping him. Our stance is "if the price is right" (as stated by WHAM13's Dan Fetes after talking to team sources) and they're desperate enough that it's a good deal we couldn't pass on, we'll make a trade. Those two stances just don't line up.
  15. Well then he's not playing NFL Football this year. No one's coming close to that price. Mecole Hardman just signed for 6.2. OBJ isn't even getting 10. If he wants his big contract, he's going to have to sign for the best deal he'll get this season on a one year deal, prove he's worth it, and then try again. Bet he's waiting for after the Draft and hoping a team that's desperate will up their price. But $15m? Never going to happen.
  16. I'm surprised to see all the hate for this. I mean, if so many of you are convinced Sean McDermott isn't good enough to get us over the hump and want him gone - how could you balk at Bill Belichick replacing him?
  17. I don't think it stinks. It's just lacking that Calvin Johnson type Top 5 Elite WR Prospect and isn't particularly deep. I really like Jaxon Smith-Njigiba, Quentin Johnston, Jordan Addison, and Zay Flowers. The problem is most if not all will be gone by our pick. And Zay is a great route runner with speed, but is diminutive and plays out of the slot a lot and we need an outside guy.
  18. Kingsley Jonathan was signed to the roster after the year under a Futures contract. Glad to see him talked about. I have thought that he could make this team as the last Defensive End on the 53 if they decide to not pay Shaq and I don't think he'd bring any less than Epenesa or Basham has. Though I'm still hoping Shaq is brought back under an inexpensive deal.
  19. Everything I've read said it's worth up to 4.6 with the base seemingly 3.
  20. I'm surprised by the money. Must be a big market for DT's this year and/or there was some competition. He was injured a lot last season - but when he was healthy he was a force as a rotational D-Lineman. Hopefully he can stay healthy and make the price worth it. As it stands now, Ed Oliver, Daquan Jones, Jordan Phillips, and Tim Settle will all be Free Agents next year - which is our entire DT room. So i'd expect to see an extension or two soon.
  21. Oh yeah, players often fly in on their own dime days early when the front office isn't in town to hang around town and wait for them.
  22. And we just paid him 4 million in cash up front in the restructure. I know someone will say "that's not cap, so who cares?". But teams aren't generally in the business of handing someone 4 million dollars if they have even the slightest intention that they won't be in the plans. The idea of a 1st or 2nd Round RB this season went out the window when they paid Nyheim Hines and Damien Harris.
  23. Yes and yes. For one, McDermott has only ever dressed 3 RB's on Game Day. 2 RB's and 1 RB/ST. So one between the Rookie, Cook, and Harris wouldn't dress unless there was an injury. Take a guy late round, sure. But a 4th RB when the team has holes (MLB & TE2), has positions that need upgrading (WR & OL), and more expensive positions (like DT) that will have multiple FA's after this year? No way. We just paid 4 million cash in a restructure to Hines (who we also spent a 5th round pick on less than 6 months ago) and he has a 2 million dead cap hit. We're not cutting him. We spent a 2nd Round pick on Cook less than a year ago. Now we're going to spend another 1st or 2nd on another RB? And we just signed Damien Harris less than a week ago to be their Thunder. If you need to replace Harris after this season or Cook doesn't continue to ascend, then you Draft a RB in 2024. But a 1 or a 2 on a RB in 2023 is MADNESS.
  24. Spotrac just doesn't have the exact details of the re-structure and it's effect on the Dead Cap. OverTheCap does, however: https://overthecap.com/player/nyheim-hines/6989
